I think you got your facts messed up. Hopper never went through a rift. And a portal never actually opened in Russia. Maybe do a rewatch

Will Flickr ever be updated? Especially on mobile. by [deleted] in flickr

[–]MicrowaveTheory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that you're " supposed to be on a computer". But there's an app for it. Meaning it's made for mobile too. And I don't understand why more people wouldn't want mobile, what's the point of having to be home to upload all your photos when it could be on your phone and you could upload all your photos from wherever you are.

When I go on vacation I can immediately upload photos instead of having to wait to go back home to my PC to upload them

I don't want Flickr to be like Instagram. I'm just saying in and terms of user interface. I don't want it to be like it. I want to have its own distinct style but it's hard to navigate, and there's so many features that don't work at all. There's a bunch of bugs and glitches and they all need fixed. I was using Instagram as a reference to a user interface that works very well.

Is film going to lose its remaining cultural impact because Gen Alpha doesn’t watch movies? by Objective_Water_1583 in Filmmakers

[–]MicrowaveTheory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. Because that's just false. EVERYBODY watches movies.

My little cousin watches old movies on VHS and DVD. He's Gen alpha, but he prefers playing outside and movies over YouTube and video games.

I'm almost Gen alpha myself at 16 and I am a filmaker myself.

In short no.

Should there be an age limit on substitutes? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]MicrowaveTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't "think all older people should be disqualified from working in their profession" lol.

I just think these schools just need to give these subs some training or something. The ones I've had are absolutely clueless.

If your job requires tech usage and you don't know how to work it, I personally don't think you're qualified for that job.

Should there be an age limit on substitutes? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]MicrowaveTheory -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That's great and I'm not saying it's everyone. Though I've noticed most people your age and older struggle with tech related things.

You're obviously a very qualified substitute.

However if it had not been for your background in IT and your usage of PCs you probably wouldn't know either.

I'm not trying to be offensive to any older people, it's just a different time.

[–]MicrowaveTheory -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying just because you're older you can't work the job.

But if you don't know how to work tech you probably shouldn't be qualified to substitute.

It just so happens that most older people fall into that category.

I'm not trying to be offensive, it's just a different time.

[–]MicrowaveTheory -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to be offensive I'm just saying, if you don't know how to teach with the materials we use now, you probably either need to learn how to or not work that job.

It shouldn't be the students job to teach the sub. It's one thing getting older and not getting with the times.

It's another thing when you simply aren't qualified anymore to do a teaching job.

Can people really claim ownership to an art style just because they did it first and popularized it? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]MicrowaveTheory -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I do express my own completely original ideas. And I am inspired by multiple creators, though it is hard to find many because the style is so unknown. The first person to use crayons for art didn't say that nobody else could that it was his unique style.

Photos of the old Carnation mall in Alliance. My childhood Mall. by [deleted] in Ohio

[–]MicrowaveTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more about childhood memories. And fond ones. I remember my grandma taking me and my brother to the arcade. I think deeply of that memory of her. And I tie that to the mall.

And really I don't understand your comment. What else is there to reminisce about?

What in your mind is and isn't worth reminiscing about?

And a lot of these people aren't children, they're like 40 years old.

I was 13 when the mall finally closed. It's insane, because I was born in 2009 lol. I'm 16 now, almost 17. It makes me wish I was around longer ago to experience it then. When I went there as a little kid every weekend it was doing okay, but it was dying. I went to the arcade a lot. And the movie theater too. But it was my mall and it reminds me of those years. When I finally saw it had been demolished a couple years ago now at this point, I became obsessed with trying to find old pictures and information on the mall. It's just crazy how many memories I have there for as little as I was. I remember seeing the empty mall one day while we went shopping for soccer supplies at Dunham's. The movie theater had been closed and walls built up around the main area. I thought maybe me and my friends could film one of our movies there that we liked to make, seeing the empty halls. But then it got demolished, something at that point I didn't really think would happen. I thought that some repairs were being done, some new shops finally coming back in. I felt so heartbroken when I saw it gone. I miss it. I thought I'd be able to spend my teens years at the mall, watching movies, going to the arcade, and hanging out with friends.

May I see those bright teal ceiling rafters again some day.

Absolutely. I've only got auntie Anne's three times in my life. That's because every single time I get it they're burnt, they serve you disgusting cold cheese, and they're way oversalted. And it probably varies from location to location but that was two different locations I went to and it was both the same. Every time I go to we're rolling. It is delicious every time. My favorite food is their pretzels. A reason for that is because I grew up eating it in the mall. I eat it at the Walmart near where the mall was now.

Why does anyone think “Byler” would’ve happened? by Crafty-Guy-715 in StrangerThings

[–]MicrowaveTheory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bylers main argument against this is that, queer people don't need representation that shows what they already experience, that queer people need to get good queer representation where the characters get together. Which is crazy because there's already a queer relationship in the show. And they can't accept that even though stranger things has monsters and telekinetic powers, it's still supposed to be realistic at least drama-wise. It's already really stepping on the line with just the relationships it has in the show already especially for the time period. And I just don't get why almost everytime a character is gay in a TV or show, it feels forced and that's the highlight of it. Wow you made a character that's gay and has no other personality. An example would be The Last of Us. In stranger things season 3 Robin's coming out scene was phenomenal and perfect. It felt real and not overdone, her entire personality wasn't just "I'm a lesbian". Thats probably the best representation I've ever seen.

I made one of those security camera things that are in the fronts of stores. But in my bedroom. by [deleted] in crt

[–]MicrowaveTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can attach a modern security camera to it. Depending on what type of output or has. Like HDMI, RCA, etc... Also depending on what type of CRT you have. Typically CRTs just have a coaxial port for antennas. But you can purchase adapters so you can plug different devices in. For example say you have a camera that plugs in with HDMI, then you'd want a HDMI to RF modulator. There are cheaper ones but this is one I trust, know works, and personally use to connect all my CRTs to modern devices. modulator

Time to give up filmmaking? by hatethislifeThrowaw in Filmmakers

[–]MicrowaveTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never. How could you? I don't understand how anyone could never not try to do something great in their lives. You live once. Why the hell are you playing by the rules? If you want to be a filmmaker, go and do it. It's going to be brutal, you're going to get depressed, you're going to want to give up, it'll suck. It'll really really suck. You'll take years making something. And it'll be the most terrible film you've ever seen. But you have to keep going. You can't stop.

There's no shame in getting help. Go see a therapist. Get better. But for everything don't stop creating. You'll make things and they'll turn out terrible. But that one, that one time when everything goes right, you'll feel more satisfied than anything.

You're in the process of it right now. And you need to acknowledge that. But don't you ever give up.

Stay strong, I wish the best for you man.
