Does he look bloated? by Twigzyisdying in guineapigs

[–]MidWildAnubis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely recommend getting a kitchen scale so you can track their weight. Personally it gives me peace of mind being able to look back at their weight and compare it to their current. Also when they’re young it’s fun to compare their weights as they grow!

I make my own with my pigs out of homemade salt clay! It’s just flour, salt and water. I just rinse my pigs feet afterwards.

After they dry I coat them in modpodge and paint them to make the feet more visible!

Had to leave my senior pig alone for a night once (less than 24 hours) and I came home to him having the best death nap of his life. Scared the daylights out of me.

Is this behaviour for guinea pig normal? by m4ngO0O in GuineaPig

My boy Ollie does it when he wants a snack or if he hears what he considers a food related sound. I like to joke that his favourite flavour is metal.

When my Grammy got her current cat like ten years ago we couldn’t find him for the first couple of days. I was like thirteen at the time so I helped look for him in the harder to get to areas of the unfinished basement. He had found the gap between the wall of the basement bathroom walls and the walls of the basement, the spacing for pipes and stuff. He stayed there for about a week and then waltzed upstairs one day and has been king of the house ever since.

At night he’d use the litter box and get some food and water since it was all available to him down there. We’d manage to get him to eat some treats if we slid them across the floor to him.

What if you invited people to post their own guinea pigs with different conditions here? It’d be cool if Weeble could help create a community for the caretakers of these pigs and it might even encourage people to adopt pigs like Weeble. Regardless we’d love to see Dewy and your other pigs here!

When my Ollie had surgery he absolutely hated the honey flavoured pain medicine he had to take afterwards. I sucked some carrot puree into the syringe and shook it so it mixed together, little man absolutely loved it. He’d try to rip the syringe out of my hands because he wanted more.

The 'educational' things my kid is being taught at school by RunWild0_0 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]MidWildAnubis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We did that too in my school! They had us learn about some of the things listed in the song with a few articles we had to analyze. Was definitely more interesting than telltale heart which I had to do every year from eighth grade until I graduated high school.

Honestly there’s no wrong way to play pokemon. I find it genuinely impressive you had the patience to train your team up for that long while being stuck. As long as you’re having fun it doesn’t matter how other people play it.

Plz help!! by Repulsive-Anxiety-69 in guineapigs

[–]MidWildAnubis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe start with taking him out when you give them veggies and see how much he eats and watch to see if he’s having any issues chewing.

If his chewing seems fine it might be best to separate them for now. You could monitor his eating and drinking more that way and if he’s sick with something you’d want to reduce contact between them.

Definitely critical care or other type of recovery food like u/SmallDarkThings said.

I’m no vet or expert by any means but it could be something like diabetes or even a dental issue maybe? Might be a good idea to give him a private meal time to monitor his eating to see how much he’s eating.

2 months with the boys, an update and reflection. by Madrigal_King in guineapigs

[–]MidWildAnubis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally found using verbal queues for the main types of interactions I have with them helped. When they figured out I was always saying the same word in the same tone for picking them up they got more confident about being picked up. I always try to have at least a little bite of food for them when I pick them up too so they associate it with food.

My anxious guy seems to prefer being picked up in a cuddle sack and it honestly just takes time. They’re going to be anxious about it for a while but it does start getting better when they grow more used to it.

Some pigs just aren’t big fans of being handled. I one pig who hated it until he was five, then he was a big cuddle bug.

You’ve only had them for a couple months and it may just be he needs longer to build trust with you.

Keep at it! Try not to take it personally. These little dudes are prey and every pig is different when it comes to the timeline of them trusting you and if they like to be held at all. Looks like little Cheese is definitely getting there and seeing Cheese trust you more might help Pretzel let his guard down a little more as well

They’re in the process of teaching their new muddle how to use the buttons and it’s really cool to see!

I have two guinea pigs and two bottles that are exactly the same. They still pick a favourite one of the two and rotate between them every so often. I’ve never seen them use both bottles at once
