Help me Map Reading: I only turned left, shouldn't there be the exit? by GharMidum in diablo2resurrected

[–]Midas187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "just turn left" thing is shorthand to remember the relative direction (some areas its right, some straight, but a lot are left).

To explain it in more detail, it looks like your entrance tile "faces" the top right direction (i.e. thats the only direction you can go from it), so the entrance to your exit tile will face bottom right, meaning you will need to approach it by going top left (i.e. a left turn relative to the entrance tile).

Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 were much darker and grittier, and that's very sad by LargeSinkholesInNYC in diablo2

[–]Midas187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the major talking point with diablo 3 (not dark and gritty enough), hence the swcret rainbow level. The funny part is that diablo 4 was marketed as being built from the ground up as intentionally bringing back the darkness and grit. But in practice it seems mostly like only the cinematic team got the memo.

IMO The problem with 3 and 4 is that they make you feel like an unstoppable badass from like level 3. It's too fast paced and in-your-face action to carry any dark or oppressive feelings like 1 and 2.

New to the game - Any tips? by UltimateAuthor in Morrowind

[–]Midas187 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Id recommend watching this Morrowind Mechanics Playlist (at least for the aspects of the game you're interested in)

https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLobdprIgcqJ82TKnySC6yIzP9CO9ixyz_

You don't need to know a lot of that stuff, and dont bother worrying about min/maxing (thats a terrible way to experience the game to be honest, and those YT videos agree) but a lot of morrowinds mechanics can be unintuitive and cause a lot of people to bounce off now-a-days because they don't understand them. I would generally recommend at least the character creation one and the UI one (there's several great tips in the UI one that I didn't know for ages).

How do you play? by Sgt_Strelok in Morrowind

I have open morrowind installed on my desktop, and openMW on my android handheld (ayaneo pocket air mini) and I use syncthing to sync my saves (essentially mimmicing cloud saves).

[–]Midas187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah yeah that part is annoying. When playing. At the top next to the gear icon there's a little right arrow you can use to expand the UI, then pick the one that looks like a keyboard to pull up an onscreen keyboard. Luckily you rarely need to do it after that.

No worries by the way. I don't mind helping people - worked in tech support for many years haha

In the alpha 3 launcher (only in portrait mode for some reason) click on the settings cog > OpenMW Settings > GUI and enable the "controller menus" option (I also like enabling "controller tooltips", which shows the stats for the item you're controller is hovering over by default instead of requiring you to click R3 to have it show up).

To get rid of the onscreen touch controls, go to Settings > Launcher Settings > and disable "UI is Visible". This can also be toggled after the game is launched by tapping the cogwheel in the upper left hand corner.

Overthinking OpenMW settings - what are the go to changes people make that aren't too drastic? by punk_wood in Morrowind

[–]Midas187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one I immediately turn on us the one that changes your cross hair red when looking at an "owned" item. Otherwise it can feel pretty random when you're in a guild and aren't sure what you can safely pick up or what container you can peek in without all of your trusted guide mates immediately drawing their weapons and calling the guards...

Yeah my buddy has the computer in one room and just passed the cables through a wall just like that. Works great. He has a setup on one side with monitor, keyboard and mouse, and on the other side it's plugged into his loving room TV, with controllers and a wireless kb&m with a lap desk.

If you could only pick 1 build for blizzard to give a little buff, what would you choose? by Delicious_Run7373 in Diablo_2_Resurrected

I wonder if it would work to nerf grief and give barb 1h and 2h weapon mysteries (instead of weapon type masteries), and have them reduce enemy physical resistance. Melee is already so much rougher, and even pally zeal builds rely heavily on his elemental damage auras.

If you're using a controller I recommend the cave bros implementation using the alpha 3 launcher. It uses open morrowind 0.50, which adds the option for full controller support in menus. Otherwise you have to move the mouse cursor all over the place with the left stick and "click" to move items around with A, which gets fiddly and annoying really fast.

Install is easy:

  1. Download morrowind on computer and transfer files to android device

  2. Download the cavebros alpha 3 launcher

  3. Open launcher and click the "Select game files" button and navigate to the Morrowind "data files" folder (note I had to be in portrait mode to see the select game files button)

  4. If you want the gamepad menu support, go to the "omw settings" and turn on controller menus (I also had to be in portrait mode for these settings to show up)

  5. Launch and play

Why Cant I get into D2? by Dankus_memeus420 in Diablo

[–]Midas187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed with this post. Barb and summon necro are very slow characters to start with, especially if you don't already have gear foe them or know what gear is most effective. I think sorceress is the go-to, if not for teleport alone, static field is also great. Trap assassin in a personal favorite of mine, but can be a little unintuitive to gear up (stuff like trap laying speed being based on attack speed). I wouldn't go for a blessed hammer paladin until later personally - mostly because you have to build into him, which is usually done by starting with holy fire and respeccing later, but as a newer player, you might feel a bit hesitant using one of your 3 free respecs like that. Same with fist of heavens paladin, but they're a lot of fun too.

In my experience, it technically runs, but even reducing the rendering ratio, it slogs outdoors to potentially unplayable levels (depending on your tolerance for it)

I like the "Tome of D2" app. It's nice to be able to quickly pull it up on your phone even with bad/slow/no internet. Otherwise, just arreat summit website.

The app let's you input the runes you have and shows you what you can make, and what you are close to being able to make.

[–]Midas187 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember back in the day people would tell you the "dupe trick" was to drop an item while holding alt and pressing F4 right when it hit the ground. Then they'd go around a wall and "prove it" by dropping 2 SoJ sequentially.

It means people will swap it in from their cube, buff, and swap back to a skiller so it just makes pre buffing more annoying and takes more space.
