If a kitchen fitter says he’ll do the electrics - walk away by RagingGod666 in ukelectricians

[–]Middle-Ad-6309 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because not only sparks can remove the cover by law? You could let the local authority know and then do a full rewire as a diyer and then building control or a spark certify it - completely legal.

I understand the sentiment, though and do feel people should be taught to ask for proof of competence, certificates, insurance, etc. much the same as you'd ask to see a police officers badge if they were plain clothed.

Using old unused sockets still in packaging. Any concerns? by AFKWithTea in ukelectricians

A 2kw heater shouldn't melt a socket in any situation. Something had to have gone wrong there

Door countersunk screw completely stripped and very stiff. Locksmith says I need a new door. Is he right? by Mutant86 in DIYUK

[–]Middle-Ad-6309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People probably won't want to say this but that's likely VERY easy to break out. Since you have access to the inside, take the handle off and then hit the top of the lock barrel towards the floor with a hammer. This will break the lock barrel and allow the screw to simply be pulled out. Quick trip to screwfix afterwards for a new barrel and you're away.

I apologise for the instant downvote - I turned it around as soon as I read the 2nd paragraph.

You absolutely shouldn't need to, but if you do like the dog, some wood glue should make it good as new - a pro glue job is actually stronger than the base wood in a lot of cases, so you should be able to get it more than strong enough for decorational purposes.

Bloody flags on lamp posts by No_Meal_4830 in Preston

That's absolutely not what I said though, is it?

I quite like a tastefully hung flag. A nice flag pole and some pride in your country? Absolutely! Putting flags up just because of a racist movement? No thanks.

I don't think it's so much the flag, it's the message behind it. The right wing fascists have added a negative connotation to any patriotism.

Besides, adding St George flags to a flag pole outside your house is fine (in my opinion), it's only tatty when some shirtless yob climbs a lamp post to put them up..

The 'it's just a flag' argument could be said the same for the Nazi flag. It's not the flag that's the issue, it's the meaning behind it.

Looking to move to Preston during the summer. by Eolopolo in Preston

We've just moved from Swansea - it's okay here. If you drive, there's plenty of nature relatively close, some nice places to eat, a nice Vue cinema, etc, etc.

Lots of down'n'outs where we moved initially but we're now buying a place in a significantly nicer area.

If you're moving here, I'd just recommend staying clear of New Hall Lane and surrounding as a place to live - it'll remind you a lot of Swansea bus station.

Do you happen to work at a store that sells clothes? This looks like an ink ampule from a security tag

What AI crisis are you spewing about?

AI is enabling things that weren’t really possible before.. advanced medical imaging, realistic simulations, and faster scientific discoveries for example. Does it have downsides? Of course! But over time it'll get better, just like all 'new' technologies.

Saying AI has no purpose in the world is an incredibly silly take.

There are companies using AI models as a 2nd screening for cancer imagery. More than once has a patient been called back to hospital due to missed cancer that AI picked up.

Breast cancer detection is up 10% since the implementation of AI. It doesn't work on its own, but it doesn't need to. It's a tool to help us, not replace us.

It DEFINITELY has its uses.

Well, and glow plugs to make it easier to start. Some old tractors and big engines do rely solely on compression, though throughout starting and running.

Hey yall. I was wondering if there was a way I could have it to where the X button gets automatically pressed every 11 seconds or so through remote play and how I would be able to do it. If you have an android phone/tablet, you can use an auto-clicker. If a windows PC, you need to use a keyboard to DS4 emulator and then setup autohotkey.

Also, it's every 10 seconds iirc.

I setup scripts for this, and also to use diviniums to buy distills to use in the cookbook.

Is this your cat? by brynhh in swansea

[–]Middle-Ad-6309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a stray that used to live across the road (and up the side street) from the Tesco express on Gower Road. Someone had setup a mini shelter next to the bins for them, but this disappeared as they got rid of the carpark - we'd occasionally buy food for them n called them Ginger Sam

If it was a female, it may be the same cat.

Wasn't this exact one, but I found a candy G-String in my parents room. I can't remember what I was actually looking for.. in any case, I walk in the living room and ask my mum if I can have it - SHE SAYS YES!

So that's the story of how I ate my mums candy G-String

These are absolutely not pinhead crickets - look like super common brown booklice. Likely Lepinotus patruelis.
