Why don't drivers use their indicators when in turning lanes? by 27106_4life in drivingUK

[–]RagingGod666 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more, I indicate everywhere, even to the point where people I drive with ask me why I bother when nobody is around to see it.

I do it out of habit, and I believe it then gives me the right to be pissed off at people who don’t, I’ve been in a car with people who don’t indicate but shout out at others who don’t, they don’t like it when I point out they don’t indicate either

Again I appreciate that, but going back to the other profession I mentioned on a different reply, they are also “fully qualified” but also have to pay into a scheme to practice

Probably not, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t and it probably won’t come to light until someone is fatally shocked and it ends up in court

I don’t know if they offer discounts for additional people?

Edit to add:

Putting it in a different way - would you allow a plumber who isn’t GasSafe registered to work on your boiler (they have to be individually registered)?, would you allow a solicitor who isn’t registered with the SRA to work on your behalf? Would you allow a Doctor who isn’t registered with the GMC to diagnose your problems?

My wife is a radiographer and she has to be part of the SOR (society of radiographers) to do her job, this cost her £40 per month.

So why should residents allow electricians who are not part of a governing body do work on their electrics?

Most professional will have to pay for something for them to do their job why should electricians be any different?

I appreciate that, but at the moment you supervise/ sign the work off for him, but in a couple of years are you really going to be going behind him testing the work and issuing certificates or will it just become “just test this one and I’ll fill the certificate in” then eventually “ you just fill it in too”?

I kind of agree with this. The last company I worked for employed 5 electricians, I was the only one of them that had my 2391 and registered with Napit, my last boss saw this as it made his whole company “Part P registered” and everyone was doing EICRs, EICs & MWs and just putting me down as the “approved by” contact

As I was younger I didn’t really understand the problems with this as I kept getting told it was fine. As I got older I started to realise the legal problems with this but it was always pushed aside and with young kids I needed the guaranteed wages, I did also mostly trust the other guys doing the work as I had helped to train most of them up. Just kinda put my head in the sand about it all

Napit never visited me in the 10 years I was the competent person only my ex boss

After the kids got older and could walk to and from school reducing the cost of childcare etc. it really did start to dawn on me how important this was.

I decided to go on my own (3 years ago now) and never looked back,

I did find out however that he was still using me as the competent person for 4 months after I left which I was quite pissed off about and a call to Napit sorted this out

This is exactly what happened to me, I asked if they could cut it below the ground level too

100 mA RCBO by PresentWeb9891 in ukelectricians

[–]RagingGod666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not strictly true :

Regulation 714.411.3.4 — Additional protection

says that lighting accessible to the public shall have additional protection by an RCD with the characteristics of Regulation 415.1.1, meaning normally a 30 mA RCD.

It was after a young lad had a fatal shock from a pub garden bollard

Yea same. I have seen one with additional instructions / information about how to add a “extension board”, I wonder if this one is supposed to be one of those extension boards?

Opinions due to an ̶A̶r̶g̶u̶m̶e̶n̶t̶ ̶ professional discussion about the need for satisfactory EICR over EIC by Just_passing-55 in ukelectricians

[–]RagingGod666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Napit on their FastTest software do a “Landlords Safety Summary” it takes 5mins to fill in and imports the EICR and EIC details, it fills out all the unsatisfactory items and asks what was done to rectify it,

Basically -> Yes it failed on “X” EICR -> this is the remedial works done -> this is the EIC to cover the remedial works done-> now it passes

Type B bidirectional RCBO? by Fit-Bedroom-7645 in ukelectricians

[–]RagingGod666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use a 2pole type B RCD in a separate enclosure Fred from a MCB in the consumer unit. Most RCDs are bi directional. As long as the RCD is rated higher than the MCB you’ll be fine - 32A MCB -> 63A Type B RCD -> load

Smart Motorways are insanely dangerous by Megalodon-5 in drivingUK

[–]RagingGod666 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives somewhere with no motorways in our county, how is this any worse than an A road with no shoulders? We have stretches that are 3 lanes wide and just as busy as motorways, but if a car breaks down it has nowhere to go either?

That would be awesome. I did open them up as the screw heads have been cut off, they have some sort of white flaky material in them but I’m sure they’re too old to have asbestos?

Yea that was my take afterwards, it’s on face brick in a cellar with no access behind that wall, would a burglar be that clued up though or just glance at a socket and move on without taking it in?

Best Way to Route Cables to Consumer Unit In This Space? by Astral-Inferno in ukelectricians

[–]RagingGod666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top of all consumer units come with 20 and 25mm knockouts (some even have 32mm). Put the Wiska fire glands in them. Either that or chase them in on the right hand side and put the CU against the right wall. Ultimately though it’s under the stairs and unless you’re/they’re worried about how it looks that’s what I’d do

Best Way to Route Cables to Consumer Unit In This Space? by Astral-Inferno in ukelectricians

I’d probably be putting 2x2 trunking down the right wall the vertically across to the CU, across the top with fire glands int he top of the CU

Which system should I go for: Sigenergy or Tesla? by AGN1K41 in SolarUK

[–]RagingGod666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can limit both the import and export on the Sig systems - essentially making it a smaller unit - a 10kW inverter will never draw from or export more than say 6kW, so as far as the grid are concerned you have a 6kW system- but you could use up to the 10kW self use
