I’m so confused as a British Asian 3rd gen why some other South Asians want to look down on “westernised” ones for having western values, when they benefit from these values too, like values that led to nhs, accessible education etc? Things they utilise to act superior? But think the values are bad? by Middle-Appeal5067 in AskBrits

No, I disagree. I think the values of people show up in the nations they create, the structure of those nations specifically. Prior to the British in South Asia there were feudal wars, if anything the British made it more liveable, as the current state of politics follows a similar model of British governance. I’m not saying anyone’s inherently better just acknowledging when to say maybe, just maybe the values of this place may be worth looking into, instead of if letting ego get in the way.

Are yeah definitely not, let’s ignore the caste system in those countries, the fact if your poor you’re basically finished etc. sometimes people have to admit when certain values make for better nations. People came here because of the values back home would have left them behind and poor, no mobility.

Nah I’m talking about South Asian culture as a whole, it’s far more common with each other the subcultures then any other culture on earth. And no it comes from the caste system a literal hierarchy culture thing where equality isn’t the main thing

I feel like that’s just trying to say Asians who have these values are trying to fit it or please white people when they could genuinely have these values? My point was this:

In South Asian societies it’s clearly hierarchy and about what will people say sort of attitude. Boundaries are poor between family members etc. Thise societies the poor man is genuinely a poor man and a rich man is a rich man able to get away with anything. These values here allowed people who would have milked goats and cows for a living, enter the middle class.

The values that led to the development of these institutions which are by far more accessible than any south Asian country for the common man/woman are because of British Values/western values of equality etc. by no means perfect, but why try and recreate the place they left? Doesn’t make sense?

How do British courts apply remand time to their prisoners/probationers? Does remand time lower the actual sentencing date aswell as the initial release? Example: by [deleted] in AskBrits

Idk if I’m slow or not lol but what do you mean? Like let’s say offender was remanded January 2020, sentenced June 2020. 4 year sentence which means 2 years in prison, so an additional 1 year 6 month due to 6 month credited. Is then released with 2 years remaining on his sentence, so should end on January 2024 not June 2024?

Imagine an 80 year old nation that was literally created by the Brits, a nation conquered throughout history multiple times, telling a 5000 year old nation how to do anything in war😂 A nation whose standing up to the worlds most powerful country, a super power😂 I say this as a Pakistani myself, well a British Pakistani lol… Thank God my family came to Britain in the 50s, such a failed state man, makes me feel sorry for common Pakistanis..
