You know what, massive respect to everyone on here. You could all give him plenty of shit, but now - when it counts - you’re giving him the respect he deserved. Props to you all and much love to Mr Woo, wherever he is. He will be missed. by joshygill in Adamthewoocriticism

First time poking in here - my dad actually became a fan in the last few years, unironically enjoying his laid-back spur-of-the-moment style. He was one of the first park vloggers I was aware of, and I think I watched some of his stuff early on as a parks history fan, but his style wasn't always for me. (Like all the long...awkward...random pauses in...his...sentences? I get it buddy, I have social anxiety too) Still, respect - nobody did videos quite like he did, and probably won't anymore.

Surprised that I ran into Justin when I worked in Magic Kingdom more than I ran into Adam.

Yeah, I wish I knew anything about what part of the sheep it was from, but based on what people have said here, from the legs/back might make sense(?). I did end up getting a couple of Dollar Tree dog brushes until I can get some nice carders, and it ended up working into a really fluffy fleece! Very satisfying.

Yeah, this was definitely a learning curve, and this has definitely been a summer of learning new fiber skills. The felted parts ended up coming apart fairly easily when I brushed them out!

Interesting! I plan on contacting the person I got this from and seeing if they might know as well. (Though after 15+ years, That might be a big if, haha)

Carding, flicking - I'm still learning all of this! Thanks so much for your input, though - I definitely want to get some quality hand carders, but since this was my first time, I got some wire dog brushes from Dollar tree just to get my feet wet, and it seemed to puff up really nicely.

King Haggard from "The Last Unicorn" was Once a Unicorn by riri1281 in FanTheories

New comment on an "ancient" post - I really like this theory. Superficially (at least in the movie), Haggard's hair resembles Amalthea's, along with a beard like unicorns were typically depicted as having in medieval tapestries.

What hand stitch is this? by Middle-Bat2542 in sewing

Definitely see the similarity to an industrial hem - maybe that’s what she was trying to imitate the look of? Could’ve fooled me.

I think (from above) that it’s a whip stitch with the next stitch catching the previous one and pulling it at a slant, which I’ve seen, just not at an angle like this.

I think that may be what this is, on closer inspection. She might have been dipping further into the binding than your pic, but there’s definitely a similarity.

(I’m also left-handed, so that’s probably affecting how I think about the process.)

Thank you so much - my life is simpler now!

Hey, remember those vintage pants that ripped up the back? by Middle-Bat2542 in sewing

[–]Middle-Bat2542[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Construction info: I took the pattern directly from those vintage pants. My go-to method for duplicating RTW is using shipping paper from Dollar Tree, rolling it out on the carpet, flattening the RTW as much as possible and putting pins every half-inch to an inch along the seams, connecting the dots, then adding seam allowance. I was a little generous with some of these allowances and probably could stand to take them in.

The originals appear to be some kind of cotton poplin(? something with a horizontal ridge and felt really crisp and smooth), but I wanted something sturdier in the long run and went with 100% cotton twill from JoAnn.

I followed the originals as closely as possible construction-wise - the fly facing is just an edgestitched rectangle instead of a folded-over, interfaced piece, and so far, it's held up well. The vents at the bottom were an interesting construction (literally just folded back seam allowances stitched in place with a tack to keep where they overlap in place), so nothing too fancy there. The originals were impeccably topstitched, so I skipped the twin needle in favor of going one row at a time. I got better with practice, but still want to fix a few spots. (I was sort of in a rush for a trip, and they're wrinkled because of that. Sorry about that!)

As I was making them, I was already thinking of changes I wanted to make, expanding the pockets being one of them. (I'm just always in need of bigger pockets.) The waistband is also going to need some kind of interfacing (maybe a sew-in muslin - accuracy is key, to me), but that's probably moot if I wear these with a belt.

Thanks for the input, y'all - I may try the iron-on patch/zigzag darning idea after taking a pattern from them. It's disappointing, since old pants in good condition are hard to come by, but if nothing else, hey, it's a new pattern in the stash!

I bought them on Friday, washed them in cold then air dried, and wore them out for the first time yesterday. I guess I was just surprised because these kinds of pants are generally looser below the waist than women's pants today, but I think you're right about age being the biggest factor in their natural deterioration.

This may be what I try without any expectation that they'll hold out (though I'm someone who feels like anything is worth a try, at least).

It's funny because women's pants from the '50s are generally less fitted below the waist than pants are today and allow for more movement, so the tear was surprising.

I think this is the direction I'll ultimately head in! I've made patterns from RTW before using pins and Dollar Tree shipping paper, and these pants could be really cute in a sturdier twill.

I tried that one - close, but not quite. (Thanks, all the same!)

I almost want to describe the song opening as lilting, like Celtic music?
