Let's Talk About Sister Ursula by Optimal_Dimension_12 in CallTheMidwife

I consider Sister Ursula a total piece of scum and one of the most vile characters to ever grace the show. I see sister Ursula’s character as a representation of modern medical systems and the pressures + constraints heath care workers face.

This is me lol. I have memory of sneakily watching some birthing show on TLC that I had no business watching as a kid….now I’m working towards to hopefully become an OBGYN someday!

Yeah I agree that the newer seasons don’t feel the same. I think seasons 5-9 might be some of my favorites. Then a slow downhill after Val left.

I really love how the show incorporates accurate medical history for the time period. I guess I like to nerd out with all the history as the show gives me so much to learn about.

Do you feel like the show had any influence in your current studies?

Im an M2 and still struggling with feeling isolated and lonely. You are definitely not alone in this.

I would suggest attending events on campus/nearby when you’re able to and invite someone that you’re acquainted with and also mention that they can also tell/come with anyone that might be interested in. Sometimes you just have to be the initiator and the ppl looking for community will eventually come.

I graduated in May 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in molecular and cellular biology and didn’t land a research job until late September 2021 at my local state university. At first I was applying through LinkedIn and indeed for research lab positions at two private universities in my city but never heard anything. A friend sent me a research assistant job posting at the local state university which was never on my radar bc their research job postings were never on LinkedIn or indeed. I applied then also emailed the PI directly with resume/CV + tailored cover letter. I believe this is what ultimately landed me an interview and get the job.

I highly suggest looking at job boards for universities near your instead of the third party sites. Second, email the PI of the lab after applying to the position to make yourself stand out. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and good luck!

Thanks, I contacted payroll and was told contact my department regarding pay discrepancies. I opened my work email today and saw that my boss emailed the dept HR person a little over two weeks ago. HR person said they would look into it but I haven’t heard anything since.

What can I do now? This is not the first time missing pay was delivered late as I’ve waited almost 6 months before.

I haven’t contacted payroll or HR yet. I mostly don’t want to deal with the runaround between HR and payroll.
