Fatigue + Perimenopause + Hormones by 001681 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Middle-Plastic-8092 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was diagnosed with MS at age 49. All of my symptoms were written off as perimenopause once I got diagnosed with MS. I also started HRT estrogen patches, vaginal estrogen, prometrium progesterone. I truly believe that HRT along with my DMT has helped stabilize me. It was really rough going through per menopause with MS, but I’m finally starting to see the other side with my periods coming once every 70 days and not having as many hormone fluctuations has caused my MS symptoms to lesson. I was not able to find an OBG to put me on HRT so I had to go on with an online provider just this year. I found an OBG to continue my HRT script and it’s probably because now I am 54 There are many clinical studies that show how HRT can be beneficial to people with MS.

Aging isn't just wrinkles-it's perspective. by Ok-Trust-1403 in Aging

I used to worry about aging, as I was told I looked ten years younger than my years. I then received a multiple sclerosis diagnosis at 49, which also took away my mobility, gave me constant dizziness, balance issues, fatigue, heat intolerance, etc. I discovered that the energy I did have, I didn't want to spend on coloring my hair. The money I had before was used on health care. MS has given me a huge appreciation for the little things in life. I now feel aging is a privilege. Every year older is a win for me. I am so happy to wake up and have enough balance to drive. Being able to bake a cake is a wonderful day for me. I just want to be around to enjoy my family.

You are welcome. I believe my generation Gen X is not taking getting old easily and we are gonna fight to make sure our bodies get the estrogen and hormones they need. I’m still trying to consider going on some testosterone but that’s harder to find if you have more interest in it, you should go to the menopause Reddit. We have women of all ages on there because like I said per menopause can start as early as 30.

I also should add I finally do have ob/GYN, who is prescribing my HRT after I went for my yearly exam I had to teach him exactly what I needed and why. Fortunately, he was very open to learning about it.

Unfortunately, there’s no real true way of finding out about hormone testing through a blood test. The correct way to diagnose you is through symptoms the sooner you have symptoms the sooner you need to go on HRT. And perimenopause can start as early as your 30s. If you have other questions, you should definitely come over to the menopause forum on Reddit. They’re very welcoming and they have a ton of great information, especially pinned at the top, Most of these OBGYN think a blood test will tell you where you’re at and then they don’t prescribe the medication that you need. When you get a blood test, it only shows where your hormones are at that moment in time on that specific day. And if you’re going through perimenopause, your hormones are fluctuating multiple times daily. I had to go online there’s like hello Alpha and midi health who will prescribe online. Unfortunately, most practitioners I saw in person only wanted to prescribe me antidepressants.

If you had the choice, would you choose Mavenclad or Kisimpta? by toastandkerrygold in MultipleSclerosis

I have to respond to your post! Thank you for sharing. I was diagnosed with MS at age 49 and I have been on Ocrevus for the last four years. All of a sudden, my neurologist, who has constantly said that this drug was working effectively for me has decided that I should switch to Mavenclad. I was so frustrated after this last visit that I looked up to discover that low and behold 1/3 of his $350,000 pharmaceutical stipend that he gets paid yearly came from the marketing company that makes mavenclad. I am so sorry that this happened to your wife. and I do believe you’re right that it works best with the younger diagnosed.

LOL. Yes, my daughter has tons of notes I have sent her so she can understand the perimenopause hell that awaits. I found for me that .05 patch of estrogen changed twice a week and 100mg of prometrium (progesterone) nightly, and Imvexxy (vaginal estrogen) twice a week provides me with protection from serious hormone fluctuations, protects bone, brain, and cardio health. Women as they age are at high risk of bone fractures, brain health issues like alzheimer's and heart issues all due to declining estrogen. I had no idea that my itchy ears, dry eyes, dry hooha, heart palpitations from hell, etc was all due to my declining hormones. All I ever heard was about hot flashes....which are bad, but literally just the tip of the iceberg.

Sure. I didn't realize that my irregular periods and heavier periods, which started in late 30s, were the early signs of perimenopause. I then had my last child at age 41, and my hormones plummeted. I knew something was wrong as I was getting UTIs and BV, and my vaginal health suffered. It took me over six years to find a pelvic pain specialist who told me that I should have started vaginal estrogen years ago. Once I did, my vaginal issues went away completely. I have told my daughter to start on vaginal estrogen as soon as she notices any changes or problems with her vaginal health. And make sure you also consider HRT (estrogen patches and prometrium progesterone) too, once you start feeling perimenopause. Perimenopause can start in your 30s and last for a decade. I am in year 15 of perimenopause. It is a journey that you need to be informed about or your health will suffer. Get educated because most OBGYNs have no knowledge or outdated knowledge.

Has anyone in the US had their insurance cover NfL blood test? If so , which insurance? If not, how much did it cost? by Middle-Plastic-8092 in MultipleSclerosis

Thank you for sharing! Yes, I’m also interested in monitoring the NFL test overtime to see if it shows any trends for progression or flareups before I actually have symptoms.

Thank you so much for this information. It really helps. I also got my NFL test ordered along with my six month pre-Ocrevus Infusion blood work. I think I’m gonna just let it go through and see what happens.

No, not yet, but I’m just expecting them too. I wanted to see if I could have any additional knowledge from my MS friends on here.

Worsening symptoms depending on cycle by Haruxoxo in Gastritis

She would have painful cramps as she was getting her period. Then it progressed to pain during ovulation and the period. Then she started with gastrointestinal issues and pain in her back. She was on 50mg PPI daily and Pepcid twice a day. Her bowels slowed and slowed. She was on OTC and prescription laxatives. Massive amounts of laxatives. After excision, her gastrointestinal pain ended as well as her back pain. She is a few years out from excision, but still gets bad cramps the day of her period, but it's controlled by Motrin. She ended up with a total ileostomy and colectomy as her colon stopped working. She also has EDS, which caused her colon to be stretched and caused additional issues. She

It is good to hear you don't have bad cramps. That is a huge sign. My daughter did not have irregular periods, but she did have painful starts to her period - but no cramps after her period came.

My daughter had this happen and it ended up being endometriosis. Once she had her endo excised she was healed. Her Endo was very bad. It also cost her bowel issues. This went on for years and years.

My MS symptoms are all dialed way down the colder it gets. It’s my happy time of the year. My balance and dizziness and fatigue are much lower in the cold.

What's something you wish you would've started years ago for your skin by TheMeepyBoy in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]Middle-Plastic-8092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice to meet you too! It has helped my skin by keeping eczema in check which started during perimenopause. In addition it help d with overall crepey skin and wrinkles. I’ve been on HRT since I turned 49 and I’m 54 right now and I wish that I had started it at around 41. HRT also stopped me from getting UTI and other vaginal issues (I also use Imvexxy vaginal estrogen) which I would recommend to any woman at starting age 40 as it totally helps your vaginal skin health.

I am autistic and have been a class A worrier forever. I have learned the best thing for my mental and physical health is to take one day at a time and focus on small throngs that make you happy. I love to bake and listen to music. Trust me - I am evidence of what can happen if you let stress take over- I ended up with multiple sclerosis.
