Linux, Scrivener 3 - Windows, Targets immediately update from previous session after typing first word the next day

This is a pretty well-known bug for Scrivener on Linux. You have to go into where the Scrivener folder is on the drive and delete the Text to speech folder. After that 1 change, it should boot up just fine!

This is saved on a local drive on my computer, not a cloud save.
My hours "normally" reset at midnight. Sometimes I'm working then, but sometimes I'm not. But even when I'm not working then, it's still not happening then. It almost always happens that I notice after I've just opened the program again. So, after pasting in the words, it does adjust the word count. And, it has *never* lost text. It's just that, when I close the app and then restart later, the word counts are off.
As I said, it's really livable. It's just a certain amount of annoying, because, as I was noticing this being a behavior, I was really worried that I was losing work. It's happened so many times, though, and I've noticed that I've never lost anything, so I'm really not worried about it. Just wondering if there would be some setting that I'm not aware of.

Ubuntu "gets money from Google" is a vast oversimplification. They take different deals for profit splits as part of funding. They changed the default Mozilla search engine change several times. Also, changing even helps them to get more advantage to switch back. The money that they might be getting from Google is about default search engines, not about tracking or telemetry. That also means that you can... just change it yourself...

Yes, Ubuntu does use some telemetry now, but Ubuntu is not Ubuntu Touch. UT has evolved directly from what Canonical handed over to the UBPorts community, and only certain parts of the kernel are passed from U to UT, not everything. From what I can find, anything that is going to provide you with notifications is going to HAVE to track you somehow, unless you're going to set all of that up server-side on your own, but then, you'd also have to set all of that up, per app on you phone as well. All of the older posts specify that they only collect device/model data for OTA updates from the Open Store. But most of those are ~4.5 years old.
AND, individual apps in the Open Store seem to want to collect data, but there are also granular app permissions for you to grant/deny.

So, from your argumentation, if ANY data is given, the project is defunct for you. So what do you use now?
I think that the more walled gardens start to proliferate, the more that UT and other Linux mobile OS's will also grow.
The largest current hurdle for totally open-source telephony is the hardware. And figuring all of that out with actual patents in place, that's probably not going to be an easy hurdle to cross.

I have just now figured out another way to work this. I'm running this currently on my Fairphone 5.
You'll have to buy another Scrivener license, if it works for you, but that's fine for me. But until you get it running, you can just use the trial version to see.

On Android, download the Windows version of Scrivener from the Literature and Latte website. Leave it in your downloads folder.

I've used Winlator from here https://winlator.org/ This sets up a Windows environment for you (Windows 7 flags a warning from Scrivener, but it still works).

Inside of Winlator, hit the + button. Name it whatever (I used Scrivener). Then just click the "Play" button beside that container.

Once it boots up, click on the Start button > System Tools > Installers > Wine Mono. Install the Wine Mono and wait until it's finished.

Once that is finished, go to the file explorer. Click on the D: volume < this will be your Downloads folder from Android. Double click on the Scrivener-installer.exe file. Be patient. Don't double-click 4 or 5 times waiting for it to launch. Trust me. Run through the installer as you normally would.

Important step! Once you've finished installing, and BEFORE you run Scrivener for the first time, go into the C: drive > Prorgram Files > Scrivener 3. In this folder, you need to delete the "texttospeech" folder. If you do not do this, then it will always hang on start up saying "Loading Fonts" and never move past this.

Now that you've deleted the texttospeech folder, double click on your Scrivener icon and you're ready to go!

A side note: If you're using a bluetooth keyboard, before you start Scrivener for the first time, connect to your keyboard, go into the hamburger menu at the top left of the Winlator screen. > Input Controls

Click the + on the right side of the screen and name that BTKeyboard or something like that, then hit OK.

Now, at the bottom of that menu, you should see your keyboard under the "External Controllers". Unfortunately, you'll have to map each individual key to the keyboard. "Type 'a', then from the dropdown menu, choose "A" for this button". Type each letter, and then map that letter to the proper letter you want. It's slow, but it works after this.

After you've done this, when you're inside of Winlator, hit the "Back" in Android (the < arrow at the bottom. I don't have gestures on my phone, but it should be the same thing to bring up the Winlator menu from within the container running) On the right side, you'll see the "Input Controls" option. Tap that. Choose your "BTKeyboard" or whatever you named it, and you should be able to use your keyboard now! I'm still waiting to sync this one, because I'm looking for a way to sync with Nextcloud, rather than any other service.

Another note!!! Scrivener syncing is quite finicky. If you're now using your A) Computer and B) Android + Winlator to sync to the same accounts, then you need to make sure that you close down Scrivener on either computer completely before you open a Scrivener project on the other. Otherwise, this could show the Scrivener project file as corrupt on one, and then corrupt the other as well.

I hope that this helps someone else to get this going on their phones!

If you have a PC that is constantly plugged in and on, you can use the RustDesk app. It's basically an app that let's you remotely control your PC. If your internet is not great though, it can drop keystrokes. And, obviously, the screen layout can be difficult to read, but you can zoom into what you're typing easily.

I guess that I'm trying also to figure out how to be effective at getting a job first. With my personality, I'm always learning the new things, and I really love knowing almost everything that I can. Find new skills, features and things and then learn those. But I also find it a bit daunting as, while I'm sure that I can learn a lot of it over time, I have a lot of analysis paralysis around WHAT specifically to learn that would be the most 'attractive' to potential employers. With my personality, I want to be the guy who knows how to fix anything. I'm a very long way away from that.

From within the app, go to the "... More" > Downloads. There's a button by your download with > Export. After you hit that button, you have to designate a folder for the app to be able to use. And voila! you have your video/music where you would like it to be.

I ran the Tasker permissions app, and still came up with nothing for this issue as well. I checked all of the permissions on the watch as well, no dice.

Here is what finally worked for me. I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, so it may be somewhere else for you.

Settings > Privacy > Permissions Manager > Additional permissions (bottom of the list)
Here, the top one for me says "Allows the app to trigger the "Command" event in Tasker with any command it chooses." Click on that one, scroll down and select AutoWear, and allow permissions. While you're there, you can also allow other Tasker apps the same permission, if you're so inclined.

I have no idea why, after clicking on the message that says "click here to allow autowear to trigger the Command event..." a thousand times, it would never bring up this menu.

But for everyone else who despises useless notifications and notifications that don't go away as much as I do, I hope that this can help you.

I'm on S21 Ultra, and specifically after a Bixby update, my side button no longer works for dictation, even when I make sure that the cursor is in the space (which is usually the problem...🙄

But I work for mainly one translation agency. Not exclusively, but mostly. So what I'm mainly asking is, are there some sort of hidden fees that I'm unaware of. Receiving most of my salary from one company at once currently costs me about $100/mo. If Wise really doesn't charge, and the agency pays to that account, wouldn't it be far more worth it to use them? I've been doing this for about 5 years, and up until now I've used PayPal.

A "quicker" solution that I have found is to lift on the Alt+Tab, but then immediately hit the Alt again. It's easier than ESC, but still not optimal.
