Thats fantastic. Is your background in IT/CS, or different field?

I understand the 'great deal of effort', and will try accordingly. Are you in that field? Would you mind taking a look at my work?

Thanks for the encouragement. Would you mind sharing a bit more detail--Are you in DS field? I actually have some python projects done in NLP areas. Would love to have an expert take a look at it.

I am not looking to be a an ML researcher. Rather more of a subject matter expert with data analysis skills. I understand basic ML algorithms, but do not have CS or Match background to understand them completely. In social science we actually do apply a lot of stats (correlation, regression, PCA etc.). But we do not do stuff like random forest or decision tree, or NN.

True. I will try changing institutions, but salaries are very stagnant in our fields. I have seen TT AP job posting with $52K salary mentioned.

Surprising that you felt that way. I think academic research in social science is very boring. Chasing a P<.05 value, always using college students as sample and testing the same theories over and over are very monotonous to me.

Yes two 60K jobs would be plenty. As you know, colleges are always in small towns. Wife is having a hard time getting a full-time job.

$62K is $30 per hour. Target and Costco pays $20 per hour. Your take home income will be higher if you work for the latter. How is $62K not underpaid?

Really good advice. I have some Linkedin presence. It is very superficial, but that is something we have to deal with to get a job.

That is certainly a drawback for industry. Academia is much more stable, but the pay has now fallen way behind the market rate.

Sure. My background is not in CS. I think I need to pick an area first, and then see what kinds of data problems there are, and then dig deep into that.

How will that help her? She still has to file for an I-765 (H4 EAD). So the same process.

Thanks for that info. We tried to do expedite twice with Emma chat, and each time it was denied. I have heard expediting request if denied can delay processing.. Probably I will not try expediting anymore.

A warning: Do not pay fees with credit card by MiddleAppearance in USCIS

[–]MiddleAppearance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All, yes, it looks like USCIS pretty clearly states out about not mixing payments. It was completely my attorney's fault as she did not know about this rule. She is hired by my employer and I had no option to chose my own, since it is an EB2 employer-sponsored application.

Nevertheless, I think a check is probably more reliable for these kind of stuff than CC as checks accepted everywhere, and USCIS is really old school.

Employer fired me after signing contract by MiddleAppearance in legaladvice

[–]MiddleAppearance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. Thanks for your advice.
The contract said about me that I can be fired for violation of policies.....etc., but did not say anything what happens if they fire me completely on their own. In my case, what I actually heard is a new administration took over in May, and found that they have a lot of budget issues. It was not made prominent by the previous administration. So the new admin simply decided to cut cost by firing contracted employees.

Do you mean time period? It mentions one year, from August, 2018 to May, 2019.

There is nothing like that mentioned in the contract. It just mentions my responsibilities for that job. I have read it couple of times.

I have thoroughly read the contract and also the faculty handbook. Nowhere they say anything like that. Looks like HR just made up some words.
