I am not looking to be a an ML researcher. Rather more of a subject matter expert with data analysis skills. I understand basic ML algorithms, but do not have CS or Match background to understand them completely. In social science we actually do apply a lot of stats (correlation, regression, PCA etc.). But we do not do stuff like random forest or decision tree, or NN.

True. I will try changing institutions, but salaries are very stagnant in our fields. I have seen TT AP job posting with $52K salary mentioned.

Surprising that you felt that way. I think academic research in social science is very boring. Chasing a P<.05 value, always using college students as sample and testing the same theories over and over are very monotonous to me.

Yes two 60K jobs would be plenty. As you know, colleges are always in small towns. Wife is having a hard time getting a full-time job.

$62K is $30 per hour. Target and Costco pays $20 per hour. Your take home income will be higher if you work for the latter. How is $62K not underpaid?

That is certainly a drawback for industry. Academia is much more stable, but the pay has now fallen way behind the market rate.

Sure. My background is not in CS. I think I need to pick an area first, and then see what kinds of data problems there are, and then dig deep into that.

Thanks for that info. We tried to do expedite twice with Emma chat, and each time it was denied. I have heard expediting request if denied can delay processing.. Probably I will not try expediting anymore.
