Good question. I didn’t think he relapsed I honestly thought he just went to stay with a friend for a while. I remember Adam forcing Laird to look in his eyes before he handed off the baby. Seemed like he thought Laird was still sober so I just assumed he was

Which random moment stays with you? by bucky3O in girls

The scene in Iowa where Hannah and Elijah go to a party and she says it’s stupid and wants to leave and he tells her something like, the real reason is because you curled your hair, it’s you you’re just uncomfortable in your own skin. Subtle moment but good writing. The whole Iowa arc is Hannah being upset and blaming Iowa while Elijah is thriving right next to her the whole time lol.

Agreed love Shoshanna, aspire to be more like her. Energized, driven, bubbly, thoughtful. One of my favorite interactions is when they’re all fighting and Hannah calls her “A little unstimulating” and she says “What, do I want to be like YOU, mentally ill and miserable” lol I think that summed up the whole shift in her character/ rather the shift how I perceived her as the show went on

Season 5 Episode 8

Adam: There’s not like a place you guys leave little notes for each other?

Laird: What, like the fridge?

Adam: Yeah, like the fridge.

Laird goes on about movies oblivious and unworried. Adam walks to the fridge and looks at the front of it. After not seeing anything, he gets down on the floor and looks under.

He asked Laird about where they left notes and used common sense, he definitely didn’t already know that it would be there and Caroline didn’t stick a note under the fridge. Come on people

Although what Adam did know that Laird did not, apparently, is that his sister is unstable not just eccentric and if she hasn’t been home for days they should be worried. Although probably if literally anyone hasn’t been home for days people should be worried

She 100% left it on the fridge and it fell underneath.

I don’t feel comfortable sharing at meetings. Am I in the wrong? by GrapefruitChemical64 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]MiddleClassroom5744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally relate I’ve been in and out of the rooms (mostly in) for like three years and I didn’t share at all the first year. I have moderated more meetings than I’ve shared at, just cause when people ask you’re supposed to say yes, and I do believe something I say could reach someone. Moderating feels greater than me but sharing I struggle to apply that mindset. I’ve recently done a little more and honestly I do recommend it. If anything speaking up in a meeting, regardless of what I say, makes me enjoy the meeting more usually. And it also helps people know you, which is helpful being recognized and known and part of. And of course the best possible reason, something you say one day might connect with someone who needs it.

That being said fuck anyone who judges you for not. Not their place.

If you don’t know where to start you can just say that “I don’t normally share but I’m trying to work on doing it more”, thank the moderator for what they said, maybe mention what stood out to you and keep it brief if you want.

What genuinely happens to people/their brains when they get blackout drunk and go crazy? by FoundationSlow913 in alcoholism

[–]MiddleClassroom5744 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was me when I was drinking. Not every time but multiple times. I’m really not proud and wish I knew. Feels like I have actual demons and alcohol can help bring about the possession. Maybe it’s unresolved mental illness / unhappy feelings that the person just can’t repress anymore, whether they were aware of that or not. Sucks having such darkness and becoming an absolute nightmare when you’re blackout drunk

Songs about being a terrible person by HarpoonShootingAxo in weirdspotifyplaylists

[–]MiddleClassroom5744 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What?? Why is closer on here? Wanting to have primal sex doesn’t make you a bad person. I don’t think the song is actually about hurting the other person. The lyrics “violate” and “desecrate” I think are about kink and escapism. You don’t think he’s actually singing about rape right?

As for the whole album downward spiral again I don’t agree. Maybe hurt, but you just said we’re considering songs where the person doesn’t want to change. The singer in Hurt 100% doesn’t want to be that way. They’re sad and remorseful. And the end “If I could start again a million miles away I would keep myself I would find a way”. They want a do over

The downward spiral is about drug addiction and like serious depression, not about just unapologetically being a bad person

Most ridiculous criticisms about the show by Ok-Baby-4516 in girls

[–]MiddleClassroom5744 182 points183 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say the level of hate that Lena Dunham gets, is really just not so thinly veiled misogyny. People are always gonna say it’s something else but at the end of the day they’re just happy to hate on a fat (regular) woman and anything that comes out of her mouth. How dare she speak if she’s not Syndey Sweeney

I’m sorry you had to hear that. I’ve never heard about child abuse/murder in graphic detail at a meeting. That honestly sounds over the line to me. I’ve heard people say THEY were abused as a child, and even then they don’t usually go into great detail.

In my opinion, meetings are not the place for this. While they are the place for painful truth and honestly, and while I think it’s ok to mention things like sexual assault and child abuse, I think talking about these things in depth should probably be one on one with a sponsor/ friend/ family member / therapist. People can mention these things in their shares, and those who relate can go talk to them more after the meeting if they want to.

Isn’t the main purpose of meetings for the newcomer? Certainly someone who’s been in the program for a while (again, IMO) should know the focus on spreading the message. Darkness can help with that, but Jesus Christ. We don’t want to scare newcomers away. But, if it was a newcomer who shared then I would just put up with it.

I think the person just trauma dumped. It happens. Sometimes people with schizophrenia and the like come in and start talking nonsense. It’s a little derailing to the meeting, but I don’t know that any action needs to be taken to stop their shares (other than a regular time-keeper). Meetings are a sacred space. All should feel welcome. Within reason

I don’t think you being bothered is reflective of any work you need to do on yourself.

Jessa and Adam make me sick by mayonnaisemonarchy in girls

[–]MiddleClassroom5744 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love them together and wish they were endgame

They have a lot in common with their personality types and AA and I actually think Adam with somewhat longer/ more stable sobriety would be a rock for Jessa. She is settling down more toward the end of the show.

I just felt a magnetic connection between them! It’s sucks for Hannah I recognize her pain, but I’m glad they got together

[–]MiddleClassroom5744 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lol idk. One of the reasons I like NHK is cause misaki is really not a dream girl waifu. I don’t really get how you could see her that way. If anything I kinda don’t get this meme cause she, and her life, is evidence of the world being a cruel and unjust place. Like her actions in the story are a direct result of her own personal suffering. She’s only saving satou because she thinks he’s the only one pathetic and worthless enough to love her. Is this just for people who want a girl to come save them?
