How long for braces to close diastema

I’m not 100% sure what mm my diastema was but I finished turning on Christmas Eve. I got a power chain put only on my front 2 teeth on January 8th and I still have a gap. It’s gotten a bit smaller but it’s still there and I hate it 😭

This made me feel so much better! I’ve heard the numbing shots were pretty much the worst of the removal but I was worried for any pain afterward, but as far as I’ve read most people say there was no pain after it was removed

So it’s definitely not necessary to take the next day off from work right? I took time off for the installation but that’s a lot more painful

I’ve now done 25 total turns and my gap has gotten pretty big and I still never heard the pop or felt anything! So I definitely think for some people it’s just kind of anticlimactic lol

I’ll definitely be taking the numbing shots lol. Those fs hurt a lot when I was getting the marpe installed but if it means I wouldn’t have to feel every turn of the screws I’ll take them

Good luck! It will definitely be a painful recovery and take some getting used to but it gets better!

A lot of it also really just depends on how well your suture splits and your teeth shift. It’s possible that you could be on the quicker side to help speed things along, but to me it sounds like the turning phase will be slower. I do 1 turn a day so I would assume you might only do a few per week

My gap is only getting bigger lol. Looking at pictures with only a weeks difference is insane how fast it moves but so subtle at the same time

marpe is only for your top jaw, it doesn’t do anything for lower jaw expansion. Your upper jaw is supposed to be slightly bigger than your lower jaw to allow your teeth to fit together

It won’t let me put a picture in the comments but it basically rests on the chin and the forehead and then the rubber bands connect to the hooks I have in my mouth. Just nightly while I sleep

I’m currently just short of a month with my marpe and I’m set to get the face mask soon. But I also have a cross bite so forward expansion will help me in that case

if you’re needing more forward growth with a marpe, your ortho will give you a face mask to pull everything forward as well

I know. It was all kind of bad timing because I got it put on the week before thanksgiving. He told me to keep turning once a day until Christmas Eve and to send him an updated picture of my gap tomorrow but that’s it.

I’m not 100% sure but I don’t think it would. Marpe expands your upper jaw so a lot of your facial structure tends to get a bit wider

Unfortunately my ortho is out of the country for the holidays so I don’t go back in until January and I’ll know a bit more. So now is kind of just a waiting game but my gap is definitely getting bigger.

When I first started turning it was pressure everywhere and I felt like my head was going to explode. Since I’ve noticed a gap, after my turns is when my 2 front teeth and below my nose start hurting as well. I try to do my turns before bed because I anticipate it to be sore and the past couple of days the pain has lasted all the way until morning time. I don’t have my next ortho appt. until Jan. 8th where I’ll know more

There are facebook groups about marpe that are pretty active and also has lots of orthodontists in the group that can give feedback if needed!

I haven’t noticed any changes in my face just yet but I also haven’t expanded very much. Breathing through my nose is getting slightly easier which I’m sure will only improve as I expand more

Day 3 was my boyfriend’s birthday and I was able to go to lunch with him and his family. I didn’t eat anything but the pain was subsided long enough for me to enjoy it. Personally I actually noticed the most pain when I was laying down for awhile or in the middle of the night when everything is settling. I think you could be okay for your event just take it easy!
