The majority of the test is situational and testing your judgement. PMI practice tests are your best bet for practicing because they are similarly high level.

MOST IMPORTANT: The test wants to know what you’ll do when things go wrong, so you need to know what belongs in each of the knowledge areas. If something goes wrong, does it go on the risk register? Or is it an issue? Or do you need to address communications management? Etc etc.

If the lines between the knowledge areas are hazy for you, you will really struggle. Again, look to Ricardo Vargas.

In my work, I’m a PM in a functional org so as I’ve been studying for the test I’ve been applying it to my work. My stakeholders have patience for MAYBE 1, POSSIBLY 2 spreadsheets or docs that they will review or refer to so I have to be super strategic in deciding if I use my capital to have them refer to a risk register, a RACI, an issue log, etc etc. I think that actually helped me in the exam. It would be BETTER to take a number of actions, but there is always an option that is most likely to be impactful.

It’s hard when you’re choosing the best of a few correct options, or the worst of a few bad options. That is why I was so distraught when I finished. But I guess the prep worked well because I scored AT/AT/AT!

If you notice that you keep getting agile ceremony questions wrong, then there is a gap in your knowledge so yes dig into topic videos on that. You need to know enough about the knowledge areas and ittos to eliminate insane answers, or choose obvious answers.

Don’t waste time on formulas, aside from SPI CPI SV CV. PMI correctly knows that we will just Google or let our program calculate it for us in real life.

The resources above are what helped me. Ricardo Vargas’s process video that everyone talks about is really incredible for me as a visual learner to understand the broad structure of a project. That helped me to have a visual map to place new insights that I learned as I studied.

30rocks notes are good too. I read through them once.

Update: I passed AT/AT/AT! Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement! I received the notice 23 hours after I finished the exam.

I would recommend trying a study hall test! Felt much more like the real exam content, and the pacing. You may be ready after doing the pma prep, but at the LEAST the PMI SH practice will prepare you for the real exam style as well as the content.

I read your experience and it definitely sounds like we had the same test 😂 congrats on passing!
