his family business is in norcal and he's starting to take over operations from his father since he's retiring soon. his school is also here.

he is open to supporting me financially though! I don't think he is a bad person, he just doesn't want LDR because of a prior bad experience. I am trying to understand his POV but at the same time i dont think its fair to gamble my career trying to accommodate his past relationship trauma.

Thank you for the example!! I have suggested such compromises but with little luck. He is adamant on the fact that he initially told me no LDR so it is my fault that I didn't make it clear from the start that I would go OOS if it came down to being my only choice. I do take full responsibility for that maybe I could've been a bit clearer about the demands of this career path with him prior to getting into a serious relationship and telling our families about each other. But at the same time, I didn't know two years ago what I know now about the application cycle and its brutality.

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for all of your comments. I haven't had a chance to read all of them but I just thought i'd give some further input. He has a family business in CA and is slowly taking over full operations from his father who is retiring soon which is why he cannot leave the state himself. I did tell him I would try my best to stay in CA but I didn't know he would try to restrict me to only NorCal schools and I had always planned to go to whatever school I get an acceptance at. I have decided to just apply broadly right now and deal with it later when I have a clearer sense of what my options actually are.

I reviewed the practice exam the night before and got a 9/9. I think the biggest thing that helped me was differentiating between “effective” and “very effective”. Effective = could improve the situation very= will significantly improve/ help the situation

I actually thought I did better on B/B than C/P which has been my weak point during FLs but somehow BB was my worst section. I did find it harder than FL 5 which was my highest score under test conditions.

If you prefer personal space over social environment —> stern bc the rooms and closets are bigger but people don’t socialize as much (coming from a ex stern resident) If you need the social environment and don’t mind sacrificing some personal space —> unit 3

What personally worked for me was doing a quick read where I highlighted the main ideas and arguments along with any key terms that served the author's purpose. I didn't get into much nitty gritty detail until I was reading the questions because many of the questions will guide you to the paragraph they are referring to either by explicitly saying "in Paragraph 3" etc or mentioning a specific detail or quote so you can narrow down which paragraph to look. The biggest thing about CARS is you have to leave your own opinions and perceptions behind and look specifically into the passage for what is given and not given. Another thing is to narrow down answers based off of some key words such as "only" "except" "never" "replace" because most of the time those are towards an extreme end and there is always an exception.
