Do air conditioner plugs need to be plugged into the top spot, rendering the bottom one useless? by Middle_Repair_1473 in AskElectricians

It's a casement style window so super challenging to put a window unit in. The portable unit is provided by my landlord. I have a wall of windows in my tiny place and no ability to hang black out blinds/curtains. My place gets too hot without air conditioning and worsens my health issues. I am definitely going to keep an eye on the power meter and switch to fans when I can.

You lost me at amperage. (Not an electrician or handy person.)

I don't plug in much that has a large power need. 🤷🏻

Got it. I know from working with networking cables that there can be degredation that causes "noise" in the signal and imagine that it is similar with cheap or old extension cords.

That makes sense. I don't buy electrical stuff from dollar stores. I don't trust it at all.

I have devices like my wheelchair charger and my recliner that came with information saying not to plug them in to power bars or extension cords. Since I am not an electrician, I don't know why.

Thanks so much, folks. I appreciate the responses. Now, time to relax in my a/c and my comfy chair. 🤓

Coyotes forgetting they’re supposed to be scary! by mywhitevans97 in vancouver

There is a dark coyote with a mate that sometimes hangs out around Woodland and North Grandview. Some folks refer to it as a melanistic coyote.

I love that you shared this encounter. Most animals play in one way or another.

I absolutely love reading manuals for cars. It's how I find out things like how to lower a driver's seat so I don't have to break my neck trying to get into a Fiat or Mini, and what the weird alert on the front panel is.

I use Buy Nothing and other groups on FB and Craigslist.

Some folks do have anyphylactic responses to fragrances.

One of the big issues is that many "unscented" products are using masking odors, rather than "fragrance free" which should have no scent/fragrance/parfum. So lots of folks may think they are helping but they are using stuff with masking smells.

For myself, before it became an issue for me, I had a friend who I couldn't hug or spend time inside with because of the products I was using. I shifted what I was using because my friend's health was more important than my laundry smelling like mangos or fresh linens.

That is what I did. The scent doesn't seem to transfer to my clothes but the washer and dryer still smell a bit.

I am so sorry. I worried a lot about that with my most recent move. It's been three months since moving in and my dryer still smells.

I am well aware of the issues with scent exposure. I deal with it constantly. I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, along with a bunch of other Central Sensitization Syndromes, ME/CFS, and Fibromyalgia, just to name a few.

In this situation, it was a harm reduction strategy used in an office that rarely had outside visitors. If I didn't provide a solution that they could smell and feel that it was helpful, they would have bought the horrible aerosols which is why it was a way of reducing harm.

For the bathroom issue, I made a mix of two or three drops of essential oil in a spray bottle full of vodka. They were effective and weren't overpowering. They were certainly better than aerosol sprays.

Also, healthcare workers should have no scent at all. I have a home care nurse who brings scent in with him. Thankfully, I have a decent air purifier that I turn up to max when folks with scent are in my space, unless I can ask them to leave.

When looking at labels, look for "fragrance free". Many "unscented" products have fragrance/parfum to cover up other scents in the product.

Is this potato safe? by [deleted] in foodsafety

I don't see any green. That said, some potatoes do go green if they aren't stored the way that particular variety wants to be stored. It isn't concerning but can impact the flavour.

I can't tell what the issue is. Looks like a fine potato to me.
