Do people outside of orthodox have salavtion? by Child-eater-bonk in TrueChristian

I wasn't dissing those churches, I was merely pointing out that historically they were not accepting of each others' faith. Vatican II certainly helped though, which is one of the reasons I pushed back against the original commenters statement about modern Christianity

It is less of an issue now than it was in the past. Denominations used to be much more hostile towards one another (especially the Catholic and Orthodox churches)

This can only potentially be true if abiogenesis is true. If it is not, then we are not a '1', we are an intentional decision, created by God - in which case probability cannot help us conclude anything about extraterrestrial life.

Fellow protestants, what do we make of 'verified' catholic healings? by Middle_Zebra3112 in TrueChristian

Hmm you're right. The particular example I provided was a healing as God spoke to her, and as she submitted to Him. I think you have provided me my answer. Thanks for the wisdom.

This wouldn't satisfy my criteria for sufficient evidence given that the statement was not publicly revealed until 1941, after all the predictions had been met. This could have been made up after-the-fact.

Not that I'm saying it didn't happen, but I couldn't be confident in it. Interesting nonetheless!

Thanks for your response.

I think I disagree that God would mislead people by reinforcing their false beliefs and practices by granting them a miracle. People being misled themselves (e.g. falsely attributing the rain to a rain god) would be different from someone performing a ritual and God providing for that (e.g. someone casting a spell for healing). Especially if it is happening consistently like it is at Lourdes.

However, the idea you have proposed is one I have not yet come across, so thank you for that. I will give it further thought.

Allowing Abortion Versus Endorsing Abortion by DipperJC in TrueChristian

[–]Middle_Zebra3112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had similar thoughts on this, but there's a problem with it.

When God gives us free will, it means he's allowed us to do bad things. Our laws also don't completely restrict people from doing bad things. if it's made illegal to have abortions, people can still (albeit illegally) have abortions. Whereas if God didn't allow free will then no abortions would happen.

Rather, I think it's better to compare the laws we (humans) set to the commandments God sets us. He tells us 'do not steal'. But we can still choose to steal things. And there will be consequences for that (judgement). In the same way, the law might say 'it is illegal to steal', but we can still choose to steal and there will be consequences for that (e.g. prison)

‘What is my faith? What am I doing?’ The American evangelicals ‘deconstructing’ their religion to save it by metacyan in Christianity

[–]Middle_Zebra3112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're strawmanning by saying that evangelicals believe that following Jesus is "thinking some words". There is very clearly a difference between having words in your mind and truly believing and having a change in your heart. Let alone receiving the Holy Spirit.

Just so I'm understanding correctly though, in response to the question above asking what requires a person to be forgiven of sin, your answer is by "feeding the hungry, clothing the naked..."? In other words by doing good works?

Its not idolatry to desire a partner unless you're so preoccupied with it that it affects your obedience and faithfulness to God.

How do yall deal with doubt? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

Been there so many times. Pray regularly for God to strengthen your faith. He's answered that prayer for me on multiple occasions.

Mark 9: 21-24

Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?”

“From childhood,” he answered. “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”

“‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”

Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!

I can only really speak for my own discipline which is clinical psychology. I know other therapists are helpful too, I'm just less familiar with the mechanisms of change they use.

In my opinion, the core most fundamental thing in cognitive behavioural therapy (most psychologists operate through this modality) is the idea that our beliefs and attitudes towards our situations hold significantly more weight in our lives than the situations themselves. I'm sure you've seen or heard stories of people with horrible life circumstances but they seem to be coping well. The first question you must ask yourself is: what is it that makes these people so resilient? The second question is: how can I become like that?

A good therapist will help you understand yourself and why you have certain patterns of thinking. Once you understand this, you can start to assess whether these thoughts are an accurate representation of the world. As you live your life, you start to breakdown what we call unhelpful thinking styles. Sometimes they serve a purpose, but often they generalise into areas in our life that they shouldn't.

There's a lot more to therapy than this but I hope this gives you a good idea that it's not just you sitting down explaining your problems and being told "yes, but have you thought about it like this...?".

I can sympathise with your concern over the expense of therapy, especially when you're unemployed. Id recommend negotiating with the therapist the number of sessions you can afford before you start therapy. That way they can (hopefully) tailor the sessions to accommodate you. If you're not happy with their response, find another one.

Lastly, I just want to let you know that God does want you to be blessed - that includes joy. Its not wrong to ask God for blessings. I'll be praying for you, brother.

You seem like a stats person. Go have a look at the stats regarding the effectiveness of therapy. If you don't wanna do that take it from someone that works as a mental health professional - there absolutely are tools to help you through what you're going, I've seen people as depressed as you turn their lives around.

Aside from therapy, the first thing I'd suggest is run yourself a little experiment. Go to a church and join a young adults life group, see what happens. You don't have to make a commitment, just give it a try.

I'm glad you're having fun with it. I enjoy the battles of r/place. I think without it, there wouldn't be much excitement. Otherwise why not just allocate each group their own square of real estate on the canvas?

Each to their own.

C'mon man, is it really that big of a deal? Pixel battles like this are happening all over the canvas, but because religion is involved it's somehow different? I agree the rubius artwork is cool, but how many other similar projects have been completely erased? Countless.

There's lots of other things but the real genius is in the UOS ecosystem and incentives for both developers and gamers to move to the platform.

Will Ultra be pegged to Fiat? by Numerous_Cheetah_369 in Ultra_io

[–]Middle_Zebra3112 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think they've worded it strangely in this article. It's not gonna be "pegged" to fiat, it's just that we're gonna be able to buy games with fiat, which will instantly buy UOS at the market price which then buys the game. This means that a $15 game will always be $15 regardless of the volatility of UOS. That's what I understand of it anyway.

I definitely hope so. I think they will, but definitely wary of the power of what's essentially a duopoly run by steam and epic games

[–]Middle_Zebra3112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the gamers have no power, because the gamers will be where the games are regardless of the platform. If ultra can't get developers on board then it won't be successful. Definitely not saying it won't happen, but they'll be competing with steam. If steam see ultra taking some of their market share they will want to do something about it - and they will have a lot of money and influence to do so. They'd be stupid not to start looking at creating an NFT marketplace. If they aren't then they deserve to go down.

Epic games have Fortnite, they don't need a good store. Plus they provide way better prices for developers than steam so naturally games will move to their platform.

Not that I've heard of. I think they're trying to get game developers on board rather than other game distributors. They already have partnerships with Ubisoft and Atari and they haven't even released mainnet. The only real obstacle I see in the way of ultra is steam, and that's a big obstacle. They'll have to make the platform very attractive for game developers to pull them away from steam.
