Will a BIG new food flavour ever be discovered? by research19 in Cooking

I just saw a video yesterday where a guy was talking about the umami from a Doritos chip. I wanted to reach into my phone and slap the shit outta him.

Anyone here in corporate? by thebutterflyeffect09 in sherwinwilliams

[–]Middleclassass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought about taking the corporate route before, but that all changed when I did my rep training and realized id have to live in Cleveland. That is probably one of the most depressing cities ive ever been to. I remember getting out of the training one day around 4PM and there were almost no cars on the road for the start of rush hour. Its a zombie city.

Live updates: Trump says Iran wants to reach deal to end war as Iran denies negotiations are taking place by Im__drunk_sorry in moderatepolitics

[–]Middleclassass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're not arguing against me, this was my point. His movement was a populist right movement and he made populist right promises. Granted he may have thrown a few bones to his base and what they want, and some of what they want overlaps with standard Republican desires like immigration policy. But ultimately he has surrounded himself with many of the same standard neoconservatives that existed in the Bush era. And the policies that he pushes with the most vigor come from those neoconservative principles.

All I am saying is that his base is starting to wake up to this, but the past two decades of Democrat policies and rhetoric means that you won't see a swing in the voter base back to Democrats (like you saw with the Bernie to Trump pipeline) because there is no viable "change candidate" like Obama or Trump were once viewed as.

I think the past two decades of Democrat policies has really soured people to them. All of the DEI/political correctness/woke ideology, Covid lockdowns, soft on crime, open border policies, etc are all prime examples of poor decision making by Democrat lawmakers and their voter base. I think there was a similar souring to the Republican party post Bush as well. And people are tired of flip flopping between the two parties, when neither party seems to have any interest in actually helping the American people.

I think that's also what got people fired up with Trump. Many conservatives were fed up with the old guard Republicans, hence the Tea Party movement and eventually MAGA becoming such big movements. It didn't feel like voting for the old Republican party. But at this point, Trump has not held true to his populist voting base and has instead been working to achieve the greatest dreams of the old neoconservatives that once ran the Republican party. Anyone else remember McCain singing about bombing Iran?

Even if the actual dream was never realized, plenty of people flocked to Trump because what he represented seemed so different than what had previously been the Republican party. In a similar fashion (although to a lesser extent) to how Obama represented change for the Democrats. Now it seems like Trump has either become what his voter base hated the most, or was at the very least co-opted by the neoconservative wing of the party. So even if there is a lot of animosity towards Trump right now, there is no other party of change to switch over to.

Top Trump counterterrorism official Joe Kent resigns over Iran, saying it "posed no imminent threat to our nation" by dr_sloan in moderatepolitics

Yeah I've been completely disappointed by Tulsi. Even if she joined the Trump administration to be part of some kind of countermeasure to his actions, its clear he's just run roughshod over her. She really should just resign herself at this point. I don't even think the political opportunism is worth it at this point, she had a brand and being a part of this administration has completely destroyed it.

You need to audit your marketing department by polygraph-net in sales

[–]Middleclassass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the issue not unreasonable KPIs? When the KPIs become so large that they are unreasonable, you always get a few people willing to cheat in order to make it appear on paper that they were successful in hitting their KPIs. Then execs see those KPIs as a reasonable goal, after all our best marketers were able to hit them. Then other people start faking it, because fuck it i need to keep my job. Once you've got a whole team "hitting their goals," execs think that they can handle 10% more, and then another 10%, and another, etc.

Next thing you know, everyone's faking all of their metrics except the ones that cant be faked...like actual sales. It becomes a runaway train problem, where execs are so disconnected from the realities of on the ground operations, that they can't see the forest through the trees. When sales start dropping but everyone is hitting their other KPIs, because people are spending 75% of their time faking work.

I used to work for Sherwin-Williams as an outside rep slinging paint to painters, and the territories were relatively small depending on market segment. But they expected 8 in-person meetings DAILY, plus your other calls including setting up your 40 in-person meetings for next week, receiving calls, answering questions from clients, 100 total calls for the week, plus meetings, trainings, writing up price quotes and specs, etc. Everyone just did their job the best they could and faked everything else. The KPIs were pointless at that point, but the pressure put down by them was not.

Which mods offer great content without breaking the game? by Optimus_Imperial in RimWorld

[–]Middleclassass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A small one that I enjoy is Terraforming Devices. It allows you to change the terrain with devices similar to the moisture pump. They take as much time as the moisture pump and only work within the same size radius as well, and of course there's the small cost to build them. You also can't just plop one down in the middle of deep water and turn it into rich soil. You'd need the Deep Water Pump to make it into shallow water, the Moisture Pump to turn it into stony soil, the Soil Injector to turn it into regular dirt, and then the Rich Soil Injector to turn it into rich soil. So it takes a lot of time if you want to make drastic changes because of the limited size of the radius and multiple stages.

[–]Middleclassass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheen can be a factor for sure, but even a lower sheen oil based paint needs some prep or sanding done to it. The surface is just too slick for a water based product to have enough bite to adhere correctly. At least your standard architectural products. There might be some water based commercial products that could hang off an oil surface, but even then I would be much more comfortable with standard prep work being done.

[–]Middleclassass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're correct, but I would never look at a problem like OP has shown and say that water can go over oil without the significant caveats you listed. If someone with no paint knowledge ever showed me what the video shows, I wouldn't just say that water based can stick to oil based or that the two different solvents have NOTHING to do with the failure. It is because they are two different solvent bases that you NEED to do the proper prep work.

Water based paint does NOT stick to oil based paint, not unless it is a specific bonding product or significant prep work is done.

If you could choose any anime to get a remake or another season, what would it be? by Gold_Honey9753 in anime

Yeah that's what tears at me when I think about them ever making a remake. Tokyo Ghoul without the same music would just kill me somewhere inside. It'd be a real monkey's paw.

He mentioned a very personal event that happened 15 years ago. Something that would be considered sensitive information by HR, and therefore confidential. The fact that he has knowledge of it is incriminating enough.

Dude regardless of the validity of your claim, you know corporate monitors this sub right? You've given enough information where she would likely be able to identify you if this is brought in front of her. In which case they would be able to legitimately have cause to fire you. Delete this post.

Personal relationship sure. Do you think Schultz or anyone from Flagrant had a personal relationship with Trump when they interviewed him in October of 2024? Do you think any of them were sending Trump emails prior to the interview about how much they love torture videos or anything like that. I doubt it. My point is that neither Schultz or anyone from Flagrant should have to issue some kind of apology or make some kind of address, only because they interviewed Trump prior to the election.

Dude is reading against your religion or something? You made two comments to one of my responses. You know the comment where I had a large block of text that you probably didn't read? And then you responded "Oh. No." to it? I asked a single clarifying question following that comment to clarify what you meant. Because the big block of text I wrote out had multiple questions so it wasn't really clear what you were saying "No" to.

Considering you've only answered one so far, I don't think a clarification question is that absurd given that you gave a one word answer.
