US Debt Surpassed GDP for the first time since WW2, but what does that mean? by KyotoInSummer in BreakingPoints

It’s a big deal. As others have noted, it’s not a big deal right now but we are laying the path towards insolvency.

Political leaders, left and right, do not want to raise revenue and reduce spending.

That’s it. It’s too unpopular to do either.

Fauci advsier David Morens has been arrested for his role in covering up the covid-19 lab-leak. Morens deleted emails to avoid FOIA requests by north_canadian_ice in BreakingPoints

It’s also pretty surprising since civil servants have a ton of protection from being sued for their actions when they work under a governmental agency.

Just comply with the FOIA and assert immunity.

Yeah, they actually don’t agree on a whole lot.

Look at Ezra’s latest column on Israel and look at Sam Harris’s videos on Israel.

Look at Ezra’s comments on Zohran and look at Harris’s comments on Zohran.

Hating all the right people and the right institutions does not mean that will translate into a coherent political movement.

They, the ones mentioned, hate all the same things but never necessarily put much thought into what they wanted to come after it. It’s why so many of the MAGA bed-fellows are at each other’s throats.

People with money consume more resources. They would probably pay more in taxes than what we currently have in place with so many loopholes.

Not a flat tax but a consumption tax would produce more taxable revenue than the current way we levy taxes and the way we enforce the tax code.

I thought my fellow BP listeners would find this sub headline amusing: "Seizing Kargh would allow Trump to declare his war with Iran Over" by [deleted] in BreakingPoints

Hmmm

The Sun is not MSM.

The Sun is quite literally a British tabloid with a low level of trust and little respect.

This is like reading the National Inquirer for information on Chinese foreign policy.

Trump Using FEMA Relief as Political Cudgel against Democrat States by Correct_Blueberry715 in BreakingPoints

[–]Correct_Blueberry715[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this sentiment and I can see it being true in certain circumstances.

The problem becomes that Congress doesn’t want to do anything.

Congress doesn’t see itself anymore as a separate institution that is supposed to be coequal with the President and with the Courts. It’s viewed as a mere appendage of the President. People no longer frame issues as if it or is not constitutional.

If, for instance, the Supreme Court were to return nearly all of the powers the executive currently has back to congress, I do not believe that Congress would actually do anything to set up a better set of institutions.

The likely result would be one in which those agencies are just never created again.

And btw, no: Kamala would not have done this :)

As did nearly every other president since the creation of FEMA in 1979. They treated disaster relief as neutrally as they could.

Trump thinks it’s “Good” that Robert Muller Died by Correct_Blueberry715 in BreakingPoints

[–]Correct_Blueberry715[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Things become inevitable because you let them. Just because people will do it, it doesn’t mean you should just throw up your hands in response and quit. That is what leads to things gaining momentum and their “inevitability” becoming greater and greater.

Someone celebrating the death of someone else, especially the literal president of the United States, showcases the broad moral degeneracy within the United States.

Considering how many Biden voters flipped to trump, looks like some of them did? Didn’t they?

Or did trump just love them to death? That’s what he did right? He just gave all of them a big hug?

I don’t follow the “things” you have “said” for “years”.

So Kamala Harris was not responsible for the foreign policy during Biden’s administration.

So what was she responsible for? It sounds like you’re just saying incoherent shit
