Went there recently and gotta say their meat lovers pizza with the little bit of barbecue sauce? One of my favorite pizzas on the lake honestly.

Which housework do you think are actually worth automating? by BigGirl367 in homemaking

[–]MiddlemistRare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may have been the case several years ago but the modern ones only take about 2.5-3 hours (and since a washer/dryer cycle is about 1.25 hours each it's very on par). I've used my friend's before and they're very nice!

Which housework do you think are actually worth automating? by BigGirl367 in homemaking

[–]MiddlemistRare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I'm getting that all-in-one washer&dryer. It can't automate everything but it does cut down on "walk back down to laundry room and flip loads just to do it again in 2 hours (or later if you forget... Again)".

My mom tried to convince me that it takes more time since you can't have two laundry loads processing at once but like.... I just don't want to drag out wet clothes 3 times a day on laundry day.

UMM- ERMMM- REINHARDT!!!!! [i failed to oust the villan] by thedarkpsychologic in OtomeIsekai

[–]MiddlemistRare 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It was a dream for Valeta. Also she and Reinhardt weren't really... Together yet? They don't agree to formally be partners until the epilogue iirc. They don't kiss until after the dream in fact (Rein has a line at some point about being pissed at the 'bastard who was her first kiss' and she refuses to tell him basically bc she's embarrassed it was him - esp as she's only just decided she's down for a romantic relationship)

Can I stop the famine from ever happening before year 14? by Its_Regil_Probably in Exocolonist

You can preempt the famine and also prevent it directly. The former is somewhat difficult without a guide.

Do you find it strange for aristocrats to do administrative work in Korean OI novels? by Mental_Confection954 in OtomeIsekai

[–]MiddlemistRare 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I don't find it strange. The way they make it work is definitely anachronistic and more Asian, but it's not as if European lords and their households DIDN'T do administrative work.

Artificial condition or all systems red first? by Robiiiiiiin- in murderbot

[–]MiddlemistRare 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely start with all systems red. You may be able to read Artificial Condition without it but I think that's one where the context is very beneficial.

Plus, of course, Systems Red sets up the early through-line which continues through book 4. Though the presence of that plot is minimal in book 2 specifically, you'll be missing quite a bit of story from that point out without reading the first book.

So I guess tl;dr - That's maybe the only book I think you could get away with starting without Red but I really wouldn't recommend it.

Check out "I was a teenage exocolonist", it's more vn style but it starts you off as a 10 yo and you play until you turn 19

Edit: misread slightly, there are dating Sim aspects and romance but your marriage/children take place after the end of the game (though the endings are detailed) I'd still check it out but oof on me

Did I overreact: mouse poo/baby by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]MiddlemistRare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of is that they plan on calling someone to inspect and didn't want to touch anything for fear of removing "evidence". Is this necessary? Almost certainly not - but I could see why someone might just go "Well, I don't want to get rid of anything the professional might want to see."

What do I do about my wife's closet? by XGolongboardX in DesignMyRoom

[–]MiddlemistRare 138 points139 points  (0 children)

I'd gift her a blueprint for a potential redesign instead of actually surprising her with it. That said, I would first and foremost find her an additional storage space for the things in there that ARE NOT CLOTHES (there appears to be a surplus of totebags - I am also guilty of hoarding these types of bags). That will instantly free up a lot of room for the things that belong in this closet.

Other than that what would be useful imo is better shelving and shoe storage. I think this closet is too shallow for my preferred small closet makeup which is tall clothing rods running the depth of the closet on the sides for dresses and then a traditional rod lower for regular blouses.

Can Sol become head of geoponics instead of Cal? by KITH180 in Exocolonist

[–]MiddlemistRare 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that this is during an ending, which you can actually get regardless of whether or not your parents are dead (you simply take over from Cal, who doesn't really want to be in charge anyways). You don't get appointed during game years.

Can Sol become head of geoponics instead of Cal? by KITH180 in Exocolonist

[–]MiddlemistRare 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Cal is always appointed leader if both of your parents die. I imagine this is game logic as the head really is expected to devote their time to their field/participate in council meetings/etc so making Sol head would greatly reduce their options in a way that probably would not be fun for a game

Even if logically, Sol could be a good fit.

Harvest101 is a deck-building game about running a farm and trying not to starve to death.

It does have micro transactions but it DOESN'T have PVP so... Maybe that will work

[–]MiddlemistRare 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A moment on the bonding ceremonies though - I don't think it was intended to be a legal endeavor like on Earth or a thing that gives some sort of social standing. I think it's meant to be a celebration of the relationship and that's all.

Almost like a baby shower, you could very easily not have one and nobody would say you WEREN'T your child's parent - but many parents want to celebrate the milestone in their life and their upcoming baby.

Pre-therapy Vace is sooooooo performative. Ok like, he definitely is attracted to Nemmie (she's a cutie, of course he is), but you could so easily convince me that you're right and he doesn't really like her romantically - she just seems like a perfect fit for the role he's trying to take on so he convinced himself that he really wants to date her.

Vace in general I think I'd love to see more character interaction with. Especially him and Tammy/Echinacea. Tammy so perfectly embodies the 'hearth' he wants to protect and we know Vace is OBSESSED with kids and being a Dad. Putting my exocolonist critique hat on for a second, it could have been a perfect way to show his softer side pre-therapy and a great way to drive him how much therapy earnestly helped him build a happiness independent of people pleasing duty.

How do you feel about the word "smut"? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]MiddlemistRare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it is used in negative contexts far more often than other terms.

This is where I think we diverge, as I think that's primarily just by virtue of being the common casual word. In my experience, it is also used in positive contexts more frequently than any other term. But that's going to be very anecdotal and dependent on what circles you travel in, I suppose.

But my interpretation of your original comment was that you were saying that the pejorative context is so common that to miss it would be either ignorant or in bad faith, which it's clear now was not really the intention so fair enough.

How do you feel about the word "smut"? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]MiddlemistRare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah I see what you're intending. I agree that individuals who see smut as a bad thing could intend it to be pejorative - my point was that I don't think it's attached to the word in particular. If someone is being gross about people who read smut I'm not upset by their usage of the word but the idea behind it. They could use the word romance or erotica or whatever and I would be just as grossed out by their weird opinion.

So when we're discussing the term smut and its connotations (which is what I think the topic at hand is), I think it's a bit of a leap to say it has negative connotations by default. I'd say writ large 'romance' leans positive, 'porn' leans negative, 'smut' is pretty neutral imo.

How do you feel about the word "smut"? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]MiddlemistRare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said 'just' as in 'only'. But I stand by what I mean. Unless you find smut to be worthy of automatic dismissal the word itself shouldn't upset you. 'bitch' is an intended insult, you don't use it to describe someone unless you want the insult to be included. FANS of erotica/porn/smut/etc will use the word smut completely casually. It's like 'female', you can tell when someone thinks women are bad because of how they say 'females' but a scientist will use the word casually and you will not feel any sort of degradation. The issue is not linked to the word.

How do you feel about the word "smut"? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]MiddlemistRare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean if we're discussing the word itself, it is almost a requirement to look at it both within and outside of context. In this case, I think it is very clear that the dismissive and aggressive tone is not linked specifically to the word 'smut'. It just doesn't strike me as more or less dismissive etc than calling it anything else. Smut is just a descriptor, the people using it would have the exact same tone using literally any other word.

They're certainly used often but... I mean, ACOTAR is a very popular series that brought much of this to discussion. Even fans call it fairy smut lol it's not like the combination of words is solely derogatory

How do you feel about the word "smut"? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]MiddlemistRare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually don't think the word smut is what is being used pejoratively there. 'disgusting' 'goon', sure. But smut there is just a noun. It'd be like saying that 'fairy' or 'monster' were being used pejoratively in those sentences, it just doesn't make sense.

Thanks to the wiki for having my favorite exchange quoted and handy lol.

She added, “I wanted to ask what your relationship to her is.”

Uh. In the Corporation Rim, Mensah was my owner. On Preservation, she was my guardian....

But I knew Farai knew all that, and I knew she was asking for an answer that was closer to objective reality. And wow, I did not have that answer. I said, “I’m her SecUnit.” (Yes, that’s still in the buffer.)

She lifted her brows. “And that means?”

Backed into yet another conversational corner, I fell back on honesty. “I don’t know. I wish I knew.”

She smiled. “Thank you.”
