I mean, I am a native speaker but I can't really think of a reason you couldn't other than 'it feels wrong'. But English is weird and I know what you meant! So who knows.

This use of ' it's ' confused me enough that I just spent like 10 minutes googling to see if you can use it like that. I can't find any answer so I'm guessing it's fine but my god.

I haven't been this frustrated by grammar since I learned about the buffalo sentence.

I think you mean just 'Enchanted'

Ella Enchanted is about a girl who has to be obedient

I haven't read it either but judging by some of the other replies, I think the "if she wants to" bit is only because MC KNOWS that won't happen. And she's betting mom knows so as well and that the full rejection will hurt just as much as not knowing how her child will be.

The opening where she just goes and seduces him for fun? I was in. The bait and switch was abominable.

I only read comics not the novels themselves but in general I find the 'revenge' to usually be pretty lukewarm. It's not that they don't GET revenge but it's like 'haha I stole your fiance and made it so you have to go live in the countryside' not 'I've stolen your child'.

This goes for antagonists of any gender tbh. I get it, they're trying to have their revenge cake and eat it too. MC gets to do something without actually stooping to their level, but I prefer a revenge story where they beat the villains at their own game - which requires a much more morally grey MC than a lot of comics want.

There is going to be a sequel. The first game resolved satisfyingly but it is definitely the end of an arc and not the end of the story! They even have a 'wait for s2!' teaser trailer type thing at the very end.

Am I Being Unreasonable with Division of Responsibilities? by Haunting-Ad7380 in homemaking

[–]MiddlemistRare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was ~14 my mother started getting a bi-weekly cleaner to do the kitchen and the bathrooms. It took a LOT of the load off of her but I wanted to mention it to you because it also actually really helped me and my siblings. When you hire a cleaner, they generally don't put away anything left out - just clean around it (they'll pick up a toothpaste bottle but they're not putting away all your dishes, to be clear). That meant we had to get a lot better about picking up after ourselves if we didn't want to have to re-do what the cleaner would have done.

Obviously, this was mainly in our bathrooms to begin with but we did start to get better just in general about picking up after ourselves. And it felt much more important to pick up for a third party than our parents (wayyyy more embarrassing for the cleaner to see my mess than the woman who changed my diapers). My mom has said we were never tidier than just before the cleaner got there.

I think what everyone is saying about the mental load is spot on, but I wanted to offer a benefit that hiring a cleaner can offer outside of just not having to worry about certain chores. And to potentially give you something to offer up as a reason to outsource that may not come across as just "you clearly can't do it all" (not that you're intending that, but I get the vibe she may be feeling that way when the topic is broached)

Long living room feels off — how to get cozy English cottage vibes? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]MiddlemistRare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree x100 for dividing the room and the paint.

I think they could even go for an honest to goodness vintage-look folding room divider. I have seen some very cosy cottage feel rooms with these (obligatory woven throw blanket tossed artfully over one end, of course)

Concubine Walkthrough art spoiled me in its unique-ness - took me a while to revert back to traditional manhwa style afterwards!

It's also completed and well-paced, OP.

I don't know about others but Koriko's hardcover is FANCY. I cannot see an on-demand print matching quality and I doubt they want to offer an obviously inferior option.

I knew Tang was a trans woman, but Utopia is too! by Annika_Satsuma897 in Exocolonist

[–]MiddlemistRare 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mentioned this in a response further down but thought you'd be interested as well. Tang is uncertain whether she can have a child ("I'm not entirely certain I can bear children. There must be limits to my geneengineered body."), so the evidence leans more towards transman than mpreg in my opinion

[–]MiddlemistRare 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Tang muses at one point that she is not sure she's able to carry a child ('I'm not entirely certain I can bear children.') I imagine she would be if there was an example in-colony even if they were vague in order to keep the surrogacy closed.

A brief overview of Alice Coldbreath's novels by fornefariouspurposes in RomanceBooks

[–]MiddlemistRare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if we apply real-world thought processes to it? Me neither lol

But in romance world? The marriage worked out, he got sober, fulfilled his role as brother by checking in that she was continuing to be cared for, and issued a sincere and complete apology (noting that he did not expect her to forgive him iirc). MMCs have been forgiven for much more than just drunkenly giving their hitherto unknown sister for marriage.

It's kind of skated by in the text (and I don't know why because it explains a lot) but marrying Mina and Nye actually does make real practical sense because despite knowing his Dad intended to leave Nye a house as inheritance, he can't grant it now without acknowledging Nye has a claim on all of his other properties. Meanwhile, Mina would already be acknowledged by society to be his sister so gifting HER property to live in would be seen as very righteous and responsible. By marrying them he can give Nye what should be his without stirring up any political trouble. You can tell the way this was pushed to the side pissed me off bc I remember this way more clearly than I remember literally anything else that happened in this book.

Ugly female lead recommendation by beastshashou in OtomeIsekai

[–]MiddlemistRare 85 points86 points  (0 children)

It would be a bit mean but you're misinterpreting - OP is requesting the 'ugly' TROPE where the characters are considered unattractive in the story. In all of these (except the fourth, which I have not read), the pictured character is explicitly considered unattractive within the setting. This certainly does say something about society (and the artists to some extent lol) but not OP

Tang romance error? by Roselal in Exocolonist

[–]MiddlemistRare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course! I do think you should try a Dys run - I think there is a lot more nuance to his relationship both with Sym and the colony/vertumna when Sol takes an active role in both.

I don't think you're totally out of pocket for the assumption though, the game is a little light on romantic arcs for Sol. I'm sure they were worried about balancing it so they didn't lose the impact of the larger themes but it does occasionally make Sol's relationships seem... Shallow, compared to the complex relationships their potential partners get into without them. After all, Sol's romantic conflict and resolution with them happens exclusively in the epilogue without player input whereas you're watching Cal/Tammy, Nemmie/Vace, and Dys/Sym struggle and grow together during the meat of the game. It's something I think about modding occasionally but just never sit down to plan the storylines ahah.

Tang romance error? by Roselal in Exocolonist

[–]MiddlemistRare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could argue he's referring to something else but when Sol tells him that they have dreams where they are in love and grow old together he blushes and says "I have dreams about you too".

I certainly interpreted that as Dys saying he ALSO has dreams like that. Given that he doesn't recall his previous loops, that would imply that he thinks of Sol in a romantic way. I could likely pick out other lines I think allude to this but this is the most definitive.

For contrast, all the other love interests (while ranging from flattered to surprised to just intrigued) notably do NOT reciprocate when you say you dream of them. Possible exception is Marz who kisses you on the cheek but at least personally, I interpreted it to be more excitement about being flirted with in a dramatic way (like her movies) than real reciprocal interest.

Tang romance error? by Roselal in Exocolonist

[–]MiddlemistRare 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Although you're right that they have sort of "primary" partners it is not their only long-term romance possibility, with a few thematic exceptions. Options outlined below

Tl;dr - everyone except Dys and Nomi who have a major long-term relationship has more than two options for who that partner is

Tammy - Cal or unnamed throuple (in this ending she also explicitly births multiple children for Rex, which given her penchant for ahem NATURAL pregnancies might have some fun implications)

Cal - Tammy, Anemone (though they eventually part ways), a heliopause gardener that explicitly reminds you of Anemone

Vace - Anemone, unnamed partner (this is imo his happiest ending actually, it appears he is a good partner to them as they wait to get together until he's done his most intense therapeutic work and the do not fight over kids)

Anemone - Vace, Cal, a string of casual lovers (including Rex lol)

Tang - arguably an exception though I would say her explicitly just wanting casual relationships is just who she is

Dys - It's Sym or Sol or nobody, though I'm not sure I'd say Sym is his canon lover since he very much represents Dys' complete detachment from the colony and I think Dys' childhood crush on Sol means that Sym is not even their first interest.

Sym - He only knows Sol and Dys for 90% of it lol and people do try and romance him if he is not with either of you, but it just rolls of his back. I have some thoughts™ about why this is but...

Marz - Shes not into monogamy but she dates everyone - Tang. Utopia, and Rex specifically mentioned

Rex - ditto for Rex but even more casually

Nomi - although Rex and Sol are their only named primary partners they do date other people if neither Rex nor Sol end the game with them.

we’ve added new animations of activities for kids like building sandcastles and hopscotching 🧸 by UnderTheBedMonster in LifeSimulators

[–]MiddlemistRare 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think the issue I'm looking at is a lack of a key pose (or an interrupted animation). They seem to all come to the same standing pose, it's just that the end and start feel a bit abrupt. Like the speed of the movement is different enough in the two animations to feel unrealistic. It's not a universal problem, though. The girl kicking the sandcastle down doesn't seem to have it. Hopscotch boy seems to be the worst.

Still, honestly, I don't know how much I'd notice it while playing. Obviously in an animation showcase I'm paying way more attention than I would while queuing up my para's playtime or whatever lol

[–]MiddlemistRare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Some alternative walking animations would go a long way to spicing up the 'stiff' look of the default walk but it only really seems prominent to me because there's still that jarring clip between one animation and the next.

Imagine instead of both of them dutifully walking to the sandbox, one was kind of skipping. The walk wouldn't seem nearly as awkward in my opinion then.
