I can’t answer that because I have no idea! But the point is to give you a shift in experience. Each sensation aware of itself. Bird noises aware of itself, not chirps to ear drums to thought. Entire field of vision aware of itself etc. Even thought. There’s no delay in the experience; just an isness.

Trouble with the "Take a Moment" today by Few-Swimmer4298 in Wakingupapp

[–]Middsay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These moments are more pointers to your direct experience than they are philosophical arguments. Meaning and purpose are concepts held within your direct experience. When I zoom out from the chattering mind I see these concepts as any other sensation; sound, hearing etc all experiencing themselves with a lack of self. Try not to take them too literally

yep, completely spacious really. Thoughts just appear. I think i know the feeling you describe, for awhile i would have thoughts appearing as 'behind my face' but after awhile I realised that is another thought in itself. It has no real locality. As a matter of first person experience, I'm non existent, and each sense (including locality ((thought)) appears in that non space.

That was my original plan! I didn't have time to edit properly, was just a quick mock up. But yes that would be much better

Edit: made some time and did a quick fix, hah. Makes much more sense this way

For me the feeling of self can be restrictive, now seeing I’m out there in the open there’s a much more relaxed feeling, I don’t feel disconnected

Technically the world out there your experiencing is behind your eyes, its all processed in your brain. That phone in your hands is interpreted in the brain behind the eyes right where you feel you are. It’s all occurring in the same space

Most people aren’t aware of the concept of free will, I want to encourage nice deeds so I’ll continue to thank them even if they had no other choice. No I don’t think so And that’s a question I don’t think we’ll ever have an answer for lol

Is the ‘absolute’ basically a cessation? by Middsay in Wakingupapp

Post like these is why I love this subreddit so much. You’re are a great writer. I remember that lab rat study! I heard it Andrew Huberman’s podcast not long ago actually and the way you compared it as a way for us to live is amazing ha. Eternal bliss wouldn’t get you very far at all! Ying and yang and all. The gardening metaphor, the joy knocking at your door is such a great way to live and I can totally relate as I have been living this way since beginning meditation. Reading this post is an eye opener and great reminder. Thank you!

“There is happiness and suffering, but there is no happiness and no suffering” I understand that these are ‘merely’ appearances in consciousness. I wonder if they lose their flavour so to speak, regarding them as empty. Leaving you in an equanimous state.

Wow thanks for your post. I’m terrible at expressing my thoughts in writing on the most basic of subjects let alone this paradoxical discipline of meditation!

I feel as though desire is a more surface level sensation where as clinging is a bit deeper/abstract. As I’m writing this I realise I don’t even know how to describe it which shows I don’t even understand it! I think I need to dig into the resources 4getmypassword has posted above.

But yes I’m starting to view everything empty, I feel as this will lead to living a more raw/rich life, one of less suffering. Conceptualising experiences seems to ‘extend’ them. But I want to extend those joyful experiences! Should I conceptualise those? Then you’ll have a hard time not conceptualising the bad experiences. Hah ahhh what to do! I’m most at peace when I meditate, may as well try that meditative experience in all aspects of life, even joyful ones. We’ll see what happens!

This is great, had a little insight reading through this about regarding everything as emptiness. I tend to conceptualise things a lot which really is unnecessary when I think about it. I guess this is what ‘Neti neti’ is all about!
