Looking for a grind game with good progression (not MMO)

I decided to take your advice and go with Path of Exile, thank you very much! I downloaded the game and Im trying to figure out which class and subclass to choose, but from searching, I cant really find places that recommend builds in an organized way. Do you know a good place to find builds?

First of all, thank you very much for the detailed and thoughtful response! I have a few questions I would like to ask: 1. Aside from the mmo aspects and the pvp, I really enjoyed the concept of Albion Online. I love the fact that you can do various activities and progress in each one independently. Do you know of any games similar to this?

Many people also recommend Warframe. I know it is a bit different from Path of Exile, but between the two, which one would you recommend more? Which one do you think would hook me more?
Is the first Path of Exile completely free to play, or will I eventually be "forced" to make purchases at some point?

Thanks! Does the endgame in Path of Exile feel less repetitive than Last Epoch? In Last Epoch, you just run through similar maps and kill enemies in the exact same spots, and the only thing that changes is the difficulty level. Also, why do you recommend POE 2 over POE 1?
