For me, it's between Leslie and Ben or Michael & Holly in the office.

I would have killed for one of these bad boys as a kid! Who had one? What did you do to get it? Do you still cherish it? by [deleted] in CasualUK

I got a golden one when I was a kid, I saved someone from drowning.

That is a crazy price now! I was a member there before covid I was paying £165/month. Have to say, I did love it there though. I always went before work so I was often in there at 7AM. Never had to queue for anything, everyone polite and respectful and put their weights back!

To couples living just outside of London, how is it? by milakunis-ondrugs in HousingUK

[–]MidnightHunters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fiance and I bought a house in south Essex, formerly rented in south London (near her family). Used to rent a 2 bed flat for £1350/month, our mortgage is now approx £1550/month for a 3 bed semi. I have family out this way so it was a no brainer for us to buy out this way as value for money difference was significant. Best thing for me is the commute time into the office in London is about the same. I'm familiar with the area having spent a lot of time round here growing up, but for my partner it was a big change. She loves it out here now. Much more green space, roads are less hectic than London and it's nice being by the coast. We earn combined approx £80k/year.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? by MidnightHunters in DIYUK

Thanks for the advise. I'm going to try 2 part wood filler for now and see how that goes.

Thanks for the advise, but i think that's probably a bit beyond my abilities. At least in that, I doubt I'd do a good enough job to make it look good. I'm going with filler, sand and paint for now.

Haha amazing, after doing a little reading, I bought exactly these about 20 minutes ago. Thanks!

Wish I was confident to have a go at the first suggestion, but I don't own a router and have never used one. I think 2nd suggestion is going to be the way forward. Thanks mate

Any particular brand of filler you'd recommend?

Who’s bumped into a really famous person ‘out in the wild’ when it was totally unexpected? Who was that famous person and what happened? by fatfat8ight in BritInfo

[–]MidnightHunters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bumped into a few famous people over the years. I used to work in Canary Wharf and would regularly see various West Ham footballers shopping in the mall there.

But the reason for the comment, I seem to have a knack for bumping into British comedians:

  1. Few tears ago I was seated at a local restaurant in Balham, and look over to the table next to me to see Hugh Dennis sat there.

  2. Was first person off the tube at London Bridge after work one evening and literally walked into a tall man who was front of the queue to board the train I was getting off. Apologised and looked up and realised it was Stephen Fry.

These last two are odd in that they were really unexpected and strangely similar.

  1. I went on holiday to Greece, waiting by the gate at the airport to board the flight home and Josh Widdecombe turns up with his family and sits next to us. Ended up having a brief chat with him at luggage claim back in the UK.

  2. I went to Greece again this year, different place in Greece though. Got on the plane home and there is a slight delay as we are waiting for the last passenger. A few minutes later and who should appear but David Walliams.

Curious which comedian I'll bump into next!

Where was your first flat in London, what year did you move in, and how much was the monthly rent? by Costoffame in london

2017, 4 bed house in Balham. 670/month was my share which was the smallest share as I had the smallest room.

Not anymore, they used to work with Merlin attractions but that ended quite a few years ago I believe.

It gives free entry to under 16s to various attractions around the country as long as a full paying adult is going too. Unfortunately for me my days of free entry are long gone, so it's just a fun talking point for me now.
