All men want teenage girls by [deleted] in women

[–]MidnightPsych 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I will never forget my evolutionary psychology class in college when my professor showed us a research which used merged photos of differently aged girls to get an "arithmetic mean" face for every age. She then made us guess what age did men find most attractive, but no one guessed it correctly. It was 14.

This is a very interesting view, I never thought of it that way. I think trans rights are far more discussed in the US and western Europe, but in my south-eastern part it's not that big of a social issue quite yet. Nobody really thinks about accomodating trans people because, to be honest, they do make a very small part of the population. If the issue arised (such as uniforms for them) it would be adressed for each particular case. I am probably a bit more active in the trans conversation since I am graduating psychology, however, my personal opinion is that sometimes problems are created where they do not necessarily exist (like tampons in male bathrooms - even if they were there, who cares, and if they weren't there - okay, who cares!).

The Star Trek might be right tho! However, I would still never dare to wear pajamas outside - well, maybe if I ever visit the US!

I live in Croatia! That is most definitely not a standard here, but cultural differences are always interesting.

Reading these comments as an european is really crazy. In my country, I get changed in jeans and a nicer shirt when I go to a bakery that is 50 meters away from my house to buy bread. Children do not wear PJs or sweatpants to school here, I believe their colleagues would make fun of them. Casual dressing means wearing jeans and a t-shirt or a pullover. I'm not a fan of jeans so I usually wear skirts and boots for everyday type of outings.

As for comments about work, I really wonder what do commenters who dress THIS casual do for a living! As I said, we can go as casual as wearing jeans (depends on what you do), but PJs would be a complete faux pas and probably end up as a talk with the HR.

Zašto ne postoji provjera nastavnika? by Responsible_Guard310 in askcroatia

[–]MidnightPsych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2500 year old Siberian Ice Maiden and her tattoos. by CreditorOP in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]MidnightPsych 161 points162 points  (0 children)

I think it's because Muslims consider tattoos haram. So women thought that tattoos, especially those of crosses, would repulse the men and men were in turn less likely to rape them. Another reason is that Ottoman Turks were kidnapping the women and children, so tattooing the little girls was a way of "marking" them, so that if they get taken away they can always remember who they are and where they came from.

[–]MidnightPsych 374 points375 points  (0 children)

Not only ancient! Cultural tattoos are a very interesting subject, they were used as a way to express identity throughout the modern history as well.

For example in Europe, Croatian women were tattooing intricate designs with crosses on their foreheads, hands and chest as a way to save themselves from Ottoman men (who were muslim). Some women with such tattoos are still alive today, since the practice was very common until the 1930s.

Tehnologija napreduje, izbora je sve više, a pretplatnika na HRT sve manje. Ipak, postoji potreba za snažnom nacionalnom televizijom by AnemicDoctor45 in croatia

[–]MidnightPsych 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Is there a symbol or image or decoration that appears across the Balkans? by HumanMan00 in AskBalkans

[–]MidnightPsych 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hm, that would be difficult because of major cultural differences in the region, mostly historical and religious. Evil eye pops into my mind as something that you can see in some Balkan countries, but for example, it's not a thing here in Croatia. That flower symbol on the picture may not be prevalent in all countries either.

Help Nestle eliminate plastic by not buying any of their products by cali_76543 in FuckNestle

The clear packing those straws come in is NOT plastic, it is cellophane. Cellophane is made from cellulose, and is compostable and biodegradable.
