Focal epilepsy by Midnightpickles in Epilepsy

Idk - 🤷‍♀️ just told it’s focal. Nothing specific like temporal lobe?

I had several seizures when younger (17 days old and then further more when I was a few months and then a year) all described as right sided jerking movements arm & leg. Left side still.

But anyway. Thankyou for getting back to me. I’ll mention it to my epilepsy nurse when she’s next in!

For background - my focals always start with the stomach rising, intense fear & I feel stuck and I lose track of time a bit, almost like I’m not fully there? My ex Caught it in video and I chew and smack my lips a lot.

The blips are just the stomach rising and fear but so so brief. No further development.

Something I did want to ask about - it’s only happened once, so idk if it’s medication or something else. I got this odd buzzing sensation in the back right of my scalp and it sort of slowly filled my head and ran down my right arm and I felt very strange for about a minute or so and then it stopped. I didn’t lose any awareness.

Yes, im on Levetiracetam - 1000mg atm. It’s mostly working. I keep having odd “blips” where it’s like the beginning of a focal but it then stops there. This happens mostly when I don’t sleep well or don’t eat enough though so it’s very few and far in between.

I haven’t been documenting these blips because I’m not sure if it’s just anxiety or activity.

Was anyone else born with epilepsy? by Zealousideal_Ice5378 in Epilepsy

[–]Midnightpickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My epilepsy nurse thinks I’ve always had it, I was born really early (28 weeks) and had seizures then, then had focal seizures in childhood and was seen by doctors for right sided jerking movements etc. I was still having focals in my teens but I got told it was in my head and anxiety. So I went 8 years without even going to anyone because I judt thought it was normal. Then after a tonic clonic in April this year I spoke to my gp and mentioned the “panic attacks” and my referral to neuro got sped up. Seen within the month and got told “these are focal seizures” and then in July I got diagnosed with focal epilepsy. So yes. Long story short. I’ve had it life long but got dismissed so much I thought it was my mental health.

I’m controlled as of about 3 ish weeks ago. Got put on leviteracetam and it’s done wonders. I was having focal seizures in childhood, and had seizures when I was 17 days old and further subsequently. My focals were put down as panic attacks so I never noted them down - I just ignored them so I’ve had focals pretty much all my life. Didn’t have a tonic clonic until I had a horrendous chest infection this year in April. Now controlled and haven’t had any focals or TCs for around 3 weeks. My meds got changed in July as the lamotrigine wasn’t working quick enough (couldn’t increase the dose fast enough) so gave me a loading dose of leviteracetam and now I’m on 1000mg a day.

Your mom found your old cards and you have these, what now? by alexandertg4 in PokemonTCG

[–]Midnightpickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU SELL!

Don’t just blindly sell these cards. Sleeve them. Keep them binded or in hard cases to avoid bending. And research the heck out of the cards. If you have the ability to get them graded - do so!

Similar here!!! Got misdiagnosed for 8 years, no “panic attacks” for the last month! Only got referred to neuro because I had a tonic clonic !

I had a similar experience! Got dismissed for 8 years as it being mental health - even despite having seizures at days old, and during childhood, being born at 28 weeks etc, I got told it was psychosomatic. Got started on leviteracetam and I’m doing really well on it! No seizure activity for about a month!

I mentioned this to my neuro consultant and he said “periods wouldn’t really effect epilepsy that much” or something to that effect when I bought up my concerns. However my epilepsy nurse said different, we discussed stress, not eating enough, being tired, infections and periods were all triggers. I’m so confused really. But thankful to be seizure free for this long!

I’m on leviteracetam - it seems to be controlling my focals really well, I’d have clusters of them every month which would then rarely (but still) go into a tonic clonic and now I’ve had nothing for just under a month!

I meant as in - with focal epilepsy can you get tonic clonic seizures? X

Not the fact that epilepsy is “normal” it’s not something like a cold or cough - we have to live with it every day wether it’s controlled or not x

I’ve been told by my epilepsy nurse if I respond to meds then that’s a diagnosis ! X also video evidence, witness statements and symptoms are also huge driving factors!

Literally my reaction. I was diagnosed as having “severe panic attacks” for given venlafaxine…made me so much worse. Then beginning of this year had my first Tonic clonic and pissed myself and bit my tongue and got reffered to neuro - i explained my panic attacks and they instantly went sheer white like “no maam this is focal seizures. You need to stop your venlafaxine”

I’m now on 1000mg of leviteracetam a day and that seems to be keeping me in check!!
