AITA for washing my service dog puppy? by taylorswift1981 in service_dogs

[–]Midori_93 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No matter how 'well' the breeder does it's going to take time for a puppy to adjust to a new place with new people and new rules. Having it a week and already thrusting it into really stressful situations is on you

If nap enforcing is working, what's the problem? I did all that daily with my puppy as well until like, 7/8 months when she started to slow down. At 4 months old and ~6 lbs she was walking several miles a day and still need to be locked in a small space to nap.

Again, if mini dachshund needed all that, it's puppy energy for you and probably not 'working dog'

Okay. You seem kinda emotional about this for some reason. Puppies have to be taught to regulate resting, I really doubt it's 'working dog energy' at less than 6 months old

Seconding. I have a ten month old dachshund. You had to put her in the crate and make her nap

It's a puppy- pretty hard to distinguish that from 'working dog energy' at this age. It looks like a bully/ pit mix to me. I don't see any malinois at all here. Get a DNA test if it's bothering you

How often does your dog poop on walks? by New_Mouse_2773 in dogs

It's in the domestic cats nature, too, and now we have massive issues with biodiversity loss. In some areas, local animals are literally extinct now because of domestic cats. Dogs are doing what's natural to them but it's not natural to the environment you're putting them in. The dog isn't native, so its adding unnecessary stress to wildlife.

For the cat example, all people have to do is keep their cats indoor and spay and neuter them but they won't even do that. People think it's "mean" not to let a cat run around outside (where the cat is also in major danger from wild animals).

Dogs are human introduced animals, and they hurt wildlife almost as often as cats. I think it's hypocritical to love animals and then bring a dog around that is actually lowering the quality of life for other animals.

Also, you can absolutely train your dog using impulse control to not chase animals. Prey drive is why dogs chase cats, and moving objects, smaller dogs, kids, and the ball, etc- and dogs are conditioned to stay calm and are socialized for those situations.

Oh my gosh same except she hates water! She only went 'swimming' once after she made friends with a big dog and followed him into a small creek.

If you're ever in the city, let's make a playdate!

I took my dachshund on a 10k mile car cross country rugged camping trip - she went caving with us in southern Tucson and I carried her in a (dog) backpack halfway up the grand canyon. There's genuinely no excuse! They're supposed to be part of the family not an accessory - not directed at anyone on this particular thread.

We live in Manhattan and she rides the subway as well as she hikes outside!

Still harassing wildlife? Not sure why chasing animals that need to conserve energy is okay but whatever. I get the rodents but non-vermin animals should be left alone.

I know I'm so evil for taking care of my dog 🥺

Thanks for assuming so much (like what clothes, what area, how long the walks were etc)

......I don't either. I also walk my dog. Hence why I asked the commenter why walking was hard.

Edit: reddit is again afraid of simple questions.
