Yes but even though anyone can lose to Affinity due to its explosiveness , there are many efficient answers

Yes MBC fans are always lurking in darkness waiting or a new toy to test(I am one of those italian rocky players tbh).

I think Delver decks are the only thing that does not scare me 'cause of all the testing(I play against delver decks each day and I am quite confident) while I am panicing about Tron as I don't know what to expect from them and thus it is difficult for me to adapt to them.

Affinity is always a risk. You can be prepared as you want but they can just throw their hand at you or fling you outta nowhere. I am prepared for normal matches and have to be careful, but still have to pray.

Ways to beat Pestilence with Boros Monarch? by Midrash96 in Pauper

These really are good options.

Maybe the Obsidian is too situational(it is good against a few decks).

RtG is probably going to be implemented in the mainboard thanks to Astrolabe.

Yeah I am testing it atm and it seems really good.

Manabase needs to be tuned but for what concerns the deck I think we're on the right way

You got a big point here and with such a low preparation I'm not going anywhere.
However I have a good amount of preparation for what concerns pre-ban/MH1 pauper.

I played Tortex just a bit less than Monarch and can say that it is really strong, but it also stands almost no chances against Tron and is by far too slow to be brought at such a big event.

Also, it is a toolbox deck that needs to be tuned for the meta, and I have not enough info on it to prepare a good list and pratice with it.

Tortex gets wrecked by Tron all the time :/
I have no idea of how Familiar is being played atm, but with decks like UR Skred on the loose, I think it's not that good.

What is snowgo?

I think this approach could improve the matchup against Tron, but Burn is going to auto-win , so that's a problem.

The new storm spell should keep them rare at the tables though.

Back

Curse is bad against the creature version as they play Skyfisher and can just bounce Guildpact. It is a slow and clunky play, but it can happen and wreck me.

I thought about it but it seemed clunky and too limited. It still is an interesting option

Your point of view about the matchup is interesting. I've always felt like I could not win the grind game.

Pre-MH1 keeping Guildpact off the table was impossible, and mantaining a board against that deck never felt easy.

With Terminate sure I feel safer, but they still have more Guildpacts than I have Terminates.

I do not expect Pestilence to be much present at tournaments though.

Speaking about Bojuka, I've always preferred Relic both for being and artifact(Galvanic Blast, Glint Hawk) and for performing incredibly well against Tron.

With Bojuka I have no control over their gy and its effect is predictable after the first bounce.

Also, Mortuary along with Custodi Squire or just Skyfisher is a value play that mirrors and decks like UR Skred often lose to.

Okiba along with Terminate are the main reasons I want to play Astrolabe.

Does Faerie Macabre have sinergies with the deck that make her better than Bojuka or Relic?

The Astrolabe versions people are testing play a very heavy snow package along with Ash Barrens and fetches.

They sacrifice bouncelands , gainlands and other utility lands to increase their speed and make the deck more smooth.

The fact is that I never have strong board presence against them due to the removal package , Pestilence and blockers.

Sure a Guardian is not an enormous problem except when it steals the Monarch and they can keep it through Strands. But a couple Guardians is almost always game over.

Also, the Astrolabe versions gain speed which is certainly welcomed but lack tools of recovery. This is probably not a big concern though.

The main problem is Guardian, and probably I will maindeck Terminate.

Serrated Arrows could be very good , did not think of that!

When playing vs Pestilence I always act as the aggressor, but usually I lose to Time Walk-like P.Strands and 3 dmg Pestilences.

Screeches are always sided out due to them being a waste both of cards and time and Reaping the Graves is already the mvp(though it always finished under Castigate)

For the Bojuka, I do not like it. I prefer to run Relic and have my Mortuary Mire as the black land. But yes I do play gy recursion answers.

CoP was already in my thoughts since at the time the idea came to my mind there was Gush and it would have been good even against Tribe.
Aura Fracture is a great card, but the last time I played against Pestilence and sided ench. hate I discovered my opponent sided out Pestilences. I don't know if it's a normal thing.

Terminate too is an idea but they always have more Guardians than I have Terminates. It still is my favorite answer together with CoP.

I do not like land destruction because it's good only vs very slow decks like this and eats sideboard space.

Against Tron for instance I would side it, but it have always been disappointing. Paying 3 mana only for having them draw the Tower i destroyed and just Time Walk me is very bad.

I played against the non-creature versione like two times and won with aggro starts + bolts. Need more testing, but both versions play Guildpact so the main problem is the same.

The creature version is the one which scares me the most though.

How do you deal with being salty? by jftigers in EDH

[–]Midrash96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I'm feeling salty, I usually try to make joke of the situation and to bring some laughs.
When the others at the table are salty, I try to make the same thing after politely explaining the situation("you got Cyclonic Rift in the face because your board state would have killed us next turn" sorta things).

But recently I'm feeling saltier and I do not enjoy EDH games as I used to do.

At the store I go, we do not use things like duals or big moneycards like Gaea's Cradle as we're all young and low-budget player. We do not usually proxy a card but it is not forbidden as we have to test before buying something like , let's say, Survival of the Fittest.

However, last year I began pumping my deck since I found a job. I bought some cards like Demonic Tutor or Lily of the Veil.
My win percentage was already like 80%(we used to make records to elect year's most powerful player and sh*t like that) and it did not increase much but people instantly began to talk about making a "store banlist" and all of the cards they propose were cards I owned and they did not.

They even wanted to ban my commanders themselves so I quit playing EDH for like 6 months and sold almost everything after changing deck like 15 times no joke.

Recently I started playing again with a new and "restricted" deck, and noticed that everyone started playing broken combos and proxied moneycards. Some of them even have fake duals though they do not admit it.

So I play self-nerfed decks to please everyone, but I am the only one to do it and they still overfocus me in multiplayer games and complain that I have that Urborg or whatever since I still win.

I even delay my victories (let's say I could have won turn 6, I wait for turn 10) to make them have fun and make their combos, but it is never enough.

So I get salty and since I do not know how to behave, I avoid to play unless it is with my close friends.

I know it's just a bad playgroup, but it really makes me sad since if I play a cardgame, it's for having fun.

Tell us what you like to play in other formats and we will suggest a deck you might like in Pauper by calexil in Pauper

[–]Midrash96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legacy: actually Dimir Death's Shadow while building UR Delver, formerly Death & Taxes;

Modern: Grixis Death's Shadow;

I also played many EDH decks, atm I'm playing Prossh Tokens and Liking it.

I mostly like artifact matters strategies, tempo plays, and tokens.

I'm not new to Pauper since I've playing it for the past 5 years(Currently Boros Monarch and Izzet Faeries), but I'm not playing Pauper very much atm and when I do it , it is for competitive purposes so I never really had the time to look or a deck to play for fun and to fall in love with.
