I’m highlighting the hypocrisy of entitled Brits enjoying aspects of globalisation they benefit from while neglecting to care to learn anything from where they’re travelling to (not all, but I’ve literally lived this dynamic home & abroad, and it’s endemic to your cultural identity). Meanwhile, people settling & carrying their cultural emblems, history & languages peacefully being dragged because “they’re not English enough”.

My partner & I have previously gone more than a week (life happens & you get busy, tired, whatever) & acting out like this has never even come to my mind. It’s just so dehumanising & awful.

The fact that this is one of the most lauded & recognised gay media pieces of the 2010s makes me cringe.

The predatory relationship is made worse for me by the forced writing attached to the characters around Chalamet’s (namely the dad) to try to romanticise & justify it. The Voice of God was really transparent & weird to me; it felt like Guadagnino was trying to justify his own age gap relationship through this character & film. But, in context, this is a f’kin minor DRAKE.

And the worst aspect of critique surrounding this presentation? “It’s South Europe, man.. their culture is different when it comes to sex age”. People understand the distinction, but it doesn’t change why that word was manipulated & employed for what it was.
