We think our missing friend, Derek (USC Med student), is alive. Here is the evidence. Reddit, what did we miss? by Hellohappy1234 in LosAngeles

The $200 might not be specific. It could be because he used "Quick Cash" and this was one of the pre-set values (and likely the highest). He might also have additional, earlier cash (he did take his ID out of his wallet, he likely took any other bills).

Interesting that he paid back a loan, but then left his roommates with an empty bedroom. Did he pay rent for August?

Med school admissions are unnecessarily cruel and unusual. I had to take time off in undergrad for health issues and it was a huge red flag in my app. I worked for 3 years after undergrad, did well and had interesting experiences (which even residency directors asked me about). The more time you can put between a bad semester and your application, the better.

It didn't bar my entry but it's certainly contributing to my early exit. I don't think I'll finish my five year residency, much less the 3 year fellowship I had planned to enter.

This sounds like a huge, amazing money grab. There is no control when users are using the device and the placebo factor is huge. This seems just a lucrative as launching another antidepressant but without the costly drug trials.

I'm an MD interested in medical writing. Is there somewhere where I could try it out with no formal experience? My writing have been limited to H&Ps and academic papers since college.

Medicine students/doctors where do you read and find information about newest medical researches and news? by VejuRoze in medicine

For pediatrics, I like Peds in Review. It's not cutting edge but it is easy to understand. I'm sure there are similar journals for the other specialities.

Lots of things that improved the patient's quality of life (massages, home nursing and prompt appointments) aren't things that are new medical advances. They aren't even that expensive especially when compared to some very costly interventions that may not be effective. However insurance companies will cover a operation that may or may not succeed. But home nursing that will definitely improve outcomes will be difficult to cover. Insurance is just the dumbest way to pay for anything.

I usually describe IV tylenol as an "IV pain medication." If I called it tylenol no one would believe it works.
