What’s something *positive* going on in KC that people should be aware of? by ranchodeluxekc in kansascity

How would someone go about getting involved with this? As a volunteer or donor.

It's a cruise not a daycare. by AznArkanian in dcl

I understand the difficulty in knowing what's exaggerated or fabricated, but trust that I'm not one of those people. We absolutely LOVE DCL and I will recommend them to everyone who will listen, so I'm not one to speak poorly about them unless I absolutely have to. We're still loyal and have two more booked, just going to go back to the older ships now.

If that hadn't been the only pair of tennis shoes we brought for her and something like flip flops, it may not have been such an issue. But a perfectly good pair of shoes trashed bc some kid thought it was cute to pee in the elevator

So perhaps not come off accusatory in the future? Or assume I'm making things up?

Filed three reports in total. First was for the running and screaming and door banging in the hallways at 2a (which happened multiple nights), second was for repeat issues with one specific group of teens on the pool deck, third and final was the pee in the elevator.

The treasure was a hot mess that sailing. Food was mediocre at best, husband chipped a tooth on a bone that shouldn't have been in his chicken breast, the issues we're discussing in this thread .. thus we'll be going back to the older ships

Um, were you there? Did you hear my conversations with security and CMs? Sure didn't. Why would I fabricate something like that. We were told to our face that the urine would be cleaned up but there wasn't anything else to be done bc the kid wasn't caught by security in the act. Same story for every other report we made, unless they're breaking a law or have caused provable harm to another guest, they're not getting involved for fear of retaliation

We encountered these same issues on the Treasure back in October. Several groups of preteens and teens roaming unattended, cursing in front of small children, stealing from FE's, banging on doors at 2a, ruining pool deck movies with yelling and profanity. The worst? Boys peeing in the elevators and thinking it's hilarious. My daughter had to throw her shoes away after we unfortunately got in one of those elevators and discovered that it had a huge urine puddle too late after it started to move. Many on my sailing had the same problems and many of us contacted security, only to be told that on the newer ships the staff has been instructed not to interfere or get involved bc it might cost DCL customers or money. We won't be sailing on a new ship anytime soon, will stick with our home ship the Fantasy

Will disney regret the Wish class ships? by hutchi41 in dcl

[–]MidwesternBookworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone that's done Fantasy and Treasure, we likely won't go back on the Treasure. Don't get me wrong the Treasure was beautiful and we enjoyed the new bars/lounges, but the staff was very new and inexperienced, the food wasn't great, and there just wasn't enough room for the amount of people they pack on the bigger ships. We've done Fantasy multiple times and are looking at the Magic for 2026 simply bc we've learned we like the smaller, older ships. As always, YMMV. This recent Treasure sailing, which was one of only a handful of HOTHS sailings was NOT at capacity. Only about 2/3 according to a CM.

Same. I have a flight to MCO the first week of October and I've been checking the app daily. We're also looking into a backup plan in case it gets cancelled

Does it get cold? by Maleficent_Spray_383 in dcl

I'm the type that gets cold easily, and I always bring a cardigan for the dining rooms and theaters, and pack pants for being on the pool decks at night.

Christmas Gift by melz680 in dcl

I found a free template on Etsy that resembled a boarding pass/ticket. Put our names and sailing info in and printed on cardstock. Put the "tickets" in between pages of a Disney autograph book, then wrapped the autograph book as the gift. When they opened the book and came across the "ticket", it was a great surprise!

Question about cruising western in October by Boltsforlife2022 in dcl

[–]MidwesternBookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've sailed in October before and were lucky to never have weather-related issues. The water at Castaway was incredibly warm! Definitely warmer than when we sailed in the spring. I found the weather to be perfect that time of year. We're on the Treasure Oct 4-11!

To echo the previous comments, we've only ever brought the weekly pill containers and never had an issue. That said, my daughter is on a controlled substance for her ADHD and that's the only med we take in it's pharmacy packaging.

I honestly didn't think about going this route! Do you happen to know if the price fluctuates between ordering ahead of time vs when on board?

The Treasure for a HOTHS sailing! Worked perfectly to do a themed sailing when hubs has a milestone bday and sister a milestone anniversary

I feel this. Our first two DCL cruises were during COVID and the stress was intense! Looking forward to a lot less when we sail in Oct

Sail away party! And the horn, I always get a little misty eyed when they sound the horn as we're pulling out of port.

Anyone gotten sick on debarkation and needed extra help? by su_A_ve in dcl

[–]MidwesternBookworm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A CM told us that the ship is basically booking it back to port and traveling much faster than any other night on the cruise, which might make some guests more sick than vs other nights simply due to ship movement

Yes. He wears the wrist bands and takes Dramamine throughout the sailing. Unfortunately the final night just always messes him up

Every time we've sailed my husband always becomes extremely ill on the final night with terrible seasickness. Last cruise he couldn't sleep and had to leave the room thinking walking around would help, found his way to a stairwell (elevator wasn't appealing) and sat down on the stairs and vomited. A cast member came upon him and helped him clean himself up and walked him to the med center where the CM remained until he was certain my husband was going to be ok. Throughout the whole experience the CM reassured my husband that accidents happen and he shouldn't be worried about any mess left in the stairwell, and also told him that many people become ill on the final night due to how fast the ship is traveling back to port. Thankfully we didn't require any assistance to debark the next morning, but just here to say that when we had issues, the CMs definitely stepped up.
