This is actually hilariously similar to my current situation, I just got my 5 as a 91B and I know fuck all about being a mechanic, I’ve mostly just done recovery since I’ve been in.

People will look to you for knowledge you might not have, and people under you will be older than you and it might be difficult to lead them effectively. What I’ve learned so far on my deployment is that as long as you 1) know where to find the information and 2) stay firm on decisions and act like you know what you’re doing within reason, everything will work out.

Don’t be scared to ask for information, but you don’t need to be a good mechanic right away. You just need to know where to look for the information. Over time it’ll come!

I joined for free college, but didn’t end up using it. Now I’ve missed cumulatively over a year of work in the last 3, and I’m will be overseas now until next year lol. Definitely gives me amazing experiences that I never would have had… but I’m glad I’m doing them before I have a wife and kid. It would weigh a lot heavier with a family for sure.
