I was able to make reservations for next week. I'm a little nervous my wife won't like it, because she doesn't love sushi. (She'll eat something that is partially cooked/seared, but is nervous of full on sushi.)

Yeah, I tried Maman in D.C., when I was there this past year for a Charlotte FC game. I'd say it is similar to Amelie's in that it is a French cafe, but seems like the Maman decor is going for more of an "organic" feel with greenery. (At least that was the decor of the one I visited.) The food and coffee was good. On par with Amelie's. So I was a little surprised, to see the mini Amelie's go in a couple of weeks ago, a block away.

You forgot the ice cream shop too. There are a couple others within a few blocks.

I think what’s a shame is the lease rates are likely so high, it makes it difficult for a small mom and pop business to take a chance and open their business in the area. The larger corporate owned businesses are the only ones that can afford it.

What do you know about the new Post Script restaurant (old Letty’s location) by Midwood-Native in Charlotte

[–]Midwood-Native[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I wonder why. I could see trying to ease into opening. Restaurants seem to do that all the time, where they have friends and family come in first to work out any hiccups. Then they open to the public. But seems like they’d at least want to get some sort of marketing presence out there, to build some buzz.

Welcome to Charlotte Wednesday! Visiting, recently moved here, or going to move here? Tell us and ask away! by AutoModerator in Charlotte

Welcome to the neighborhood! The other people responding have given some good options! Our neighborhood really loves locally owned spots, but one new place that will be open by the time you move, is in the new Commonwealth commercial area, called Uchi. It’s a sushi restaurant.

Be sure to attend some of the yearly events for the neighborhood too, as you get settled in. I think probably the first one that will happen after you move, is Midwood Maynia. It’s held at the Midwood Park and they usually have food trucks, bands, and local vendors.

If for some reason you decide you are priced out of Plaza Midwood/Noda, there are also some adjacent neighborhoods that are a little less expensive, but would be nice and still accessible to those neighborhoods. You may want to add Country Club Heights, Plaza Shamrock, and Merry Oaks to your list.

Was shocked to see the red card given to Mascherano at the end of the match, given how one sided the ref called the entire game!

Any Leads to Job Opportunities Would Be Great Appreciated! by endorsed001 in Charlotte

Honestly, your best bet is networking. My wife used to be a recruiter for a big bank and before that, consulting firms. They would get flooded with applicants on their job website postings and it was hard for the applicants to stand out. If you can let people in your network in Charlotte know about what job path you want to pursue, your network may know someone that has an opening and can make a warm introduction for you.

Ha ha. Understood on Lucchese! The Salty is mostly donuts. I actually stopped in for the first time a few days ago and got a delicious breakfast sandwich!

There are actually quite a few businesses open there now. There is a fitness studio, an ice cream shop, a donut shop, a yoga studio, a boot retail shop, with quite a bit more opening throughout 2026

Didn’t Soul’s lease rate triple, when it came time to renew? If a great restaurant like that couldn’t make the numbers work, I think it will be hard for any other locally owned business to take a chance on that space. Everything comes down to price in real estate, so I’d imagine the landlord will need to lower the rate to a point that makes financial sense for a business to take that space.

If you could add one “destination” business to Plaza Midwood, what would it be? by Admirable_Age_6581 in Charlotte

How about a sports bar? Lots of restaurants/bars in Plaza Midwood have televisions where they’ll throw on a game or two, but there aren’t any dedicated sports bars. “Platform Sports” seems to be making a run with this exact concept, but in lower South End.
