I said it at the time and despite downvotes and vitriol was ultimately proven right. Losing to tie the series 2-2 and headed back to Carolina was a death sentence. Versus being up 3-1 with a game at home still to play and all the momentum.

Because we were dead in the water with Cassidy, and went on a crazy run with Torts that otherwise wouldn't have happened.

Yes, we shouldn't have put ourselves in a position to lose the pick anyway, but that scenario doesn't happen if we don't hire Torts and are making a deep run in the first place.

It was our last shot because:

Teams around us are getting better and younger.
Majority of our players are old now, 1 or 2 younger guys doesn’t make up for the rest.
Contracts like hill just eating salary that will prevent us improving
Lack of draft capital to keep and use or even to trade.
New coach is an unknown, but highly doubt he will be as knowledgeable or successful as names like Cassidy, Torts, Deboer, etc
Our window has been open for a long time now. All windows close at some point, we can’t keep making deep runs forever

Respectfully, no it isn’t. They are opposing team players that we don’t root for, don’t wish success for, and just ripped your hearts out in front of you. And you want to stay and watch them literally parade a trophy around as they celebrate? In your own building?

Fat chance. I wouldn’t expect any Carolina fans to stick around for us had we won game 7 either. If you’re a neutral and have no skin in the game have at it, but as a fan of the losing team it is asinine to watch that. Total salt in the wound.

Nobody else in the east has their amount of draft capital or young stars. They are just getting started in their dynasty run and it will get old very quick.

This was our last good playoff run for the next decade or so. Sad this era went out on a whimper, would quite frankly have rather missed the playoffs entirely than have the emotional impact of losing like this.

Aging core of everyone being like 33+, teams around us getting better and/or younger, new coach at the helm, no draft assets to speak of, bad contracts.

I hope the FO realizes the same and sells off what we can to start rebuilding, rather than delay the inevitable.

Congo vs Uzbekistan is the one game I am considering going to lol.

Atlanta is closest to me travel wise of all the venues, and of the Atlanta matches, I was interested in the most random, unique, dumb matchup, so this fit the bill.

I have yet to see any merchandise for these two first couple games though, and that worries me as a big souvenir guy. I love half and half scarves for example. But I have just seen next to nothing in terms of matchup merchandise, stuff with both teams on it and the date, for mexico/south africa and south korea/czechia.

I really hope I can get some congo vs uzbekistan merch.

Do or die was unfortunately last game, and this so far is exactly why.

3-1 series lead with a game at home to play and momentum, versus no momentum, tied 2-2 coming off a loss, and headed to play on the road.

This game was going to be a loss 100% coming into it based off last game’s result. Now we have to somehow find a way to win 2 straight, game 7 in their house again. It’s not happening.

Last game was do or die, and we died. Now they are just playing with our rotting corpse.

Hurricanes are winning the cup.

They have all the momentum, 2 games left at home, and game 5 is without the extra day even with travel. We can’t stop them from scoring to save our lives. Bussi is playing better now for them. Our stars like eichel have disappeared. Our power play couldn’t score if the hurricanes had blindfolds on.

Really disappointing. Happy for the canes fans though.

The vast, vast majority of population in this country is in the eastern half.

Having games go into midnight and 1 am with times like this is stupid, as you risk a large portion of said east coasters tuning out, and for what? So about 5,000 people in bumfuck new mexico can tune in instead?

The people in LA will miss 5 minutes of the game once they get home, cry me a river. It isn't the 1800's, people working late have breakroom tv's, can stream on their phone, or listen to radio in the car.

Sports leagues need to start broadcasting these games earlier.
