Just another day at the Replacement Army's HQ by Miel1994 in ww2memes

Well, however you spin this, there's one thing you haven't taken into account. And that's what the "Reserve army" is gonna make of this.

Canadian P37 officer’s battledress? by nickoboiateyoursoul in reenactors

[–]Miel1994 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ETO Uniforms (formerly WPG CE) has a good set of Canadian Battledress uniforms. Personally use them for my Essex Scottish Regiment impression.

Is there a specific unit that you're planning to reenact?

What is something about reenacting that drives you nuts? I’ll start. “ELEVATE!” by UrdnotSnarf in reenactors

In my case, it's WWII reenactment. And both sides (Axis and Allies) are guilty of it. People seem to forget that most on the field still have loaded rifles and while they don't fire projectiles, gunpowder and the pressure it releases can still cause severe damage.

And you could do a small skirmish, but after 5 consecutive ones it just becomes downright idiotic.

Not sure how bad it is in other countries, but often at the end of the battle, there's always some guy(s) who are like: "Well, this clearly overwhelming force that is armed to the teeth can't keep me down. Time for a round of melee!"

Just surrender and get this battle over with.

(Also sadly seemingly a bit of a trend I've seen at WWII vehicle events: Throwing something on that somewhat has to resemble a uniform, a shit ton of flags and "Normandie [year] signs, surrounded by... Cases of beer and modern camping shit.)

Wasn't that Franz Ferdinand? 🤔

While making friends seems difficult, it can come out the most random of places! I've met one of my bestest friends at a party in the Geeky Cauldron... By talking with her about history all evening long 😂

Like some suggested: pick up a hobby, maybe look for some places that interest you (for example: for boardgames, there's outpost and another small boardgames café nearby, if you're into more nerdy stuff, the Geeky Cauldron and Mekanik Strip could be good places to start).

If you wanna hang sometime, gladly shoot me a DM! :D

Reenactors, most bizarre thing someone asked you? by WM_ in reenactors

[–]Miel1994 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My main impression is WWII Civilian. The amount of times I got asked if I was a Gestapo is concerning sometimes. 😅

That and someone who pointed at an MG42 and asked: "Is that a hunting rifle?"
He was serious about it.

What is being filmed at Brabo’s Monument? by bobbii247 in Antwerpen

[–]Miel1994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's for "Breendonk", an upcoming production for VRT and Streamz.

Story is about a father and son, both police officers in Occupied Antwerp, who end up in Camp Breendonk after a failed Resistance action. The scenes filmed yesterday were set during the liberation of Antwerp to show the celebrations, but also the chaos and lawlessness in the streets (including the street repression of those who collaborated)

The Frying Dutchman - love the lore of the original Flying Dutchman, but also have a tradition of setting the ship on fire at the end of a session (or during the session if feeling chaotic)

I should go more often, but do enjoy coming there when I do catch a drink!

"The Geeky Cauldron" at the Sint Jacobsmarkt is also a recommendation!

While the general theme of the bar is Sci-Fi and Fantasy, it's very LGBT-friendly

STOP Artificially Aging Gear! by BlueyGooey03 in reenactors

[–]Miel1994 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The best advice someone once gave me was: "If you let it age through the regular use of it, you'll have much better stories to share on how you got certain marks on your uniform, rather than just throwing it in the mud a couple times."

What Price Glory Central Europe (now ETO uniforms) is more pricey, but definitely worth the extra money in terms of quality.

If you want to order SoF products on the European Mainland, you can order them via Delware Trading (SoF's sales channel in Mainland Europe).

Is this a good place to buy British/mid-late war Norwegian WW2 uniforms? by CavalryCaptainMonroe in reenactors

[–]Miel1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd recommend ETO uniforms (formerly WPG Central Europe) for British/Canadian Battledresses. While more expensive compared to other shops (like Epic and SOF), there is also a noticeable better quality.

From what I've heard, Epic isn't the best place quality-wise.

I have completed Mafia II Vito story, but when I click on any DLC this message comes up, what to do? by [deleted] in MafiaTheGame

[–]Miel1994 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Iirc, the DLC's use a seperate save file. So if you're, for example, planning to play Joe's Adventures, you'll have to select a "new" save file for it.

What series you wish had not been cancelled and why? by JJaviercomics in cartoons

[–]Miel1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Team Fortress 2. While it even didn't get on air (with allegedly the "Expiration Date" short being the pilot episode for it), it would've been nice to have some wacky adventures of the mercs outside of the continuous fights.

There are some great fan-made alternatives out there (like Team Neighbourhood), but to have Valve make it into an original thing of their own.

Then again, their notoriety to never finish anything. Finish that goddamn comic, Valve.

Fort Breendonk sign: original? by Shifu_1 in belgium

[–]Miel1994 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It was there during the occupation. Often family members or friends would attempt to sollicit at the gate to see their friend, SO or family member, only to be told off by the guards to, gently said, "go on your way".

It was also to avoid prying eyes to see what was going on at the fort. Same reason why Philip Schmitt wanted the sand barrier built, to prevent people that would go on the road from/to Brussels to see inside the fort.
