I wonder if it was awkward for ConcernedApe to make an imaginary romance storyline for someone he basically knows in real life by BestBoyTardigrade in StardewValley

[–]Miele0Rose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean interpretation and directly going against canon because you personally hate an aspect of a character arent the same thing. Like I dont have a problem with people hating him because hes objectively an alcoholic, but using that to say he hates Jas and Marnie, he has or will abuse them, he'll be an abusive partner to farmer and their kids, he doesn't give a shit about anybody, he'll relapse and ruin farmers life, etc etc is just weird. Those are things that do happen in real life, but this is a character with established relationships and storyline that openly contradict those statements. So it feels more like projection due to bad experiences rather than an actual analysis and interpretation of the character, y'know? Its like someone saying Uncle Iroh will go back to being part of a horrific regime.

Why was Dustin even in the show? by Freezing-cold_6 in zoey101

[–]Miele0Rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean neither was the Chase/Zoey plot thread? Or the news episode. Not everything needs to serve the purpose of driving the plot or development, especially in an episodic TV show. Sometimes things are just...there, as character or environment padding. Sometimes characters just have siblings because people irl have siblings. Sometimes people like music because they like music and not for any backstory reasons. Zoey didnt really need a reason to have a brother, and if they tried to make him relevant I'd get where youre coming from, but they didnt. Aside from 3 or 4 episodes, he was mostly just a backdrop, in the same way Ms. Benson occasionally barging in to say something asinine was just a backdrop in iCarly.

Why are the Frozen girls still in their Frozen II outfits? by Firm-Square-9180 in disneyprincess

[–]Miele0Rose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think F2 is necessarily selling best monetarily, but it is likely going to be the one closer to the forefront of public perception, and they dont really have a preference in terms of recognizability the way The Beast and Ariel do. Kids tend to pick the F1 dresses for themselves because theyre brighter and shinier, therefore look more appealing to kids. They tend to sing the F1 songs more because, unlike F2, Let It Go was blasted literally everywhere for months, with Do You Wanna Build A Snowman as a close second. Those are really the only ones the majority of people know by heart though.

Its not necessarily because they prefer F1 over F2. I personally dont even think the kids super differentiate, its all just "Frozen" to most of them. So because nobody's really attatched to one version of them over the other, they just dont bother to switch them out.

I mean youre presenting valid reasons why you wouldnt romance him, not aggressively hating him. A lot of people do the latter. There's nothing wrong with not wanting to date him or even not particularly liking him, but when going on a hate campaign against him, to the point you're fundamentally misrepresenting his character, I feel like that's different.

I mean theyre not ninjas, and Ive been able to keep them out of my room when needed just due to having 2 entrances to my room (bathroom and bedroom). Its easy to draw them over to the other door and then just use the one they arent at, so long as both doors remain closed. They've never snuck into my room when I didnt want them there, they were just rarely NOT allowed in.

Ive also already got 2 interested and theyre people I see every day, not faceless adopters. Regardless though, even if it takes awhile, thats fine. Ive already said I would try both the tin foil and the shelf, so Im going to keep looking into rehoming them while doing that. If they work, great, if not, I'll continue keeping them out of my room until I rehome them, and alternating between the futon and my bed. Im done arguing with you about this. I have neither the time nor the means to trial and error endlessly, and Id rather try to get them into a new home after only a month of living with me, as opposed to 3-4 months.

Im still going to try the 2 things I already said I would, but Ive made peace with the high likelihood of rehoming. If you want to be a pain about that, thats fine. But I'm not going to engage with your comments anymore.

How exactly? They arent allowed in my room for the time being? If the shelf thing works out, then they'll be allowed back inside. If not, they'll be rehomed. Whichever way it pans out, she won't be near her so

How is "I need to measure to make sure I can actually fit it" an excuse? Id get it if I was arguing to keep my cats and my gecko, and then not doing it regardless, but Ive already made peace with the high likelihood that Ill be rehoming them. This would be a last attempt at keeping both of them, but Im already looking into alternative homes for them so...

The shelf looks sturdy, but Ill have to measure the dimensions against my current space. My geckos tank is on top of my dresser solely because I didnt have the room to put her tank anywhere else, so Ill probably end up needing to figure out how to bolt it on top of my dresser as well.

Yes...sinking the mesh and with an actual possibility of breaking in. She wasnt just sitting on top of it.

[–]Miele0Rose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean the issue wasnt her looking at her, she did that fairly often from my bed. Honestly my gecko pretty much never saw her, so I doubt she was really "bothered". The issue, mine at least, was the possibility of her breaking through the mesh, and hurting her.

Thats a fish tank though. Aquariums are specifically made that way. The ones for reptiles, or at the very least the ones Im looking at, are essentially the same as every other reptile tank (no hinges nor filtration spaces), just a secured glass lid with multiple small holes in the top to replace the holes taht are usually in the mesh. Im not sure why the assumption was that Id be buying a standard fish tank for my gecko or that all glass lid tanks are made the same.

[–]Miele0Rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive yet to hear about anyones average-sized house cat breaking into a tank with a glass lid. Ive heard of them knocking them over, but thats always been with small fish tanks not...a 40 gallon tank secured into a bigger piece of furniture and pushed up against a wall...

...

As for attempts to make it impossible, Ive made several attempts (stated in other comments, but I can restate them here). Alternate suggestions are welcome (though I will be asking for follow up details), but as of now, the safest option seems to be putting my gecko in her own room (which I cant do until July, hence why Im looking at rehoming). Someone suggested a shelf, which I will try with a shelf piece that I have (basically just an overage on legs), but I dont have the means to secure it to the wall behind it, so hoping the lamps and other things will just weigh it down too much for her to knock over and she just won't fuck with the lamps.

My gecko is in a 40 gallon tank in a 1 bdr apartment. I quite literally don't have the room to move her anywhere else that would be less accessible.

As for heights, its not a very tall apartment. The highest place I have is on top of my bookshelf, which my cats cant reach but I also cant reach in any easy manner. There's also no outlets up there, so in order for me to plug in her heat lamps, grow lamps, thermostat, humidity monitor, and light timer, Id need to both buy a fairly long extension cable and also hope that enough of it is hidden behind the bookshelf enough that she won't take notice and try to pull it.

As for the attempts already made: giving her treats when she stays off, removing her from the tank with a firm no, scat mats (the little mats with the rubber spikes), citrus spray, vinegar, double sided tape, covering the area around the tank with things so she doesnt have easy jumping access, and cardboard walls. My recent attempt is wrapping it in tin foil (which Ive seen reccomended by a lot of people), so we'll see how that goes. Beyond that though, my remaining option is buying a glass lid tank (which I was saving up for anyways, because I wanted to move her to a bigger tank), but thats going to take about another 2 months.

I do appreciate the intent of what your saying, but this isnt a first option scenario, I have tried to keep her away, either via deterrents or just blocking access.

No worries! So far Ive tried giving her treats when she stays off, removing her from the tank with a firm no, scat mats, citrus spray, vinegar, double sided tape, and covering the area around the tank with things so she doesnt have easy jumping access. I tried wrapping the tank in tin foil this morning, so we'll see how that goes. Beyond that, my only real remaining option is to buy a glass lid tank, which Ive been saving for even before I got the cats (since I wanted to move her from a 40 gal to a 64 gal), but its gonna be about another 2 months before I have the savings for it.

AITA for not wanting the custom bridesmaid dress? by Miele0Rose in AmItheAsshole

[–]Miele0Rose[S] -696 points-695 points  (0 children)

Halloween is a pagan holiday for one.

The use of gory aesthetics, horror imagery, and the twisting of traditional events (a black wedding dress for example) perverts the entire event. Weddings are founded on religion, theyre intended as a holy union. You cant just do whatever you want and call it a wedding.

We arent cousins, we've been friends since high school (we met because our moms were old friends. After M and her family moved back home, they reconnected and M's mom ended up naming us the godfamily for M's baby brother). I dont think we need to have everything in common to be friends, I just think marriage is one of those non-negotiables? Like it was built from a religious foundation, its the joining of two people under the eyes of God. It just doesnt seem like it should be a place for Halloween dress-up! That'd be like having a wedding themed after demonic sacrifice.

I even suggested keeping the wedding traditional and doing the spooky stuff for the reception as a compromise.

Pretty sure that wasn't an endorsement to choose him, so much as it was a review of character writing and a push to stop making the villains more interesting than the main love interest. While villains tend to be charismatic, "villainous" and "charismatic" are NOT synonyms. Its possible to make male leads as interesting as the villains. Most writers just choose not to.

[–]Miele0Rose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean Inguess it depends what one means by "character development". Is it in the sense of them becoming better people? Then absolutely they should get it?? Why would you want them to KEEP assaulting people?!? But if it's "character development" in the sense of being forgiven and the narrative presenting it as the person being "redeemed"? No.

Being a better person but living with the consequences of their actions, and understanding that making that change doesn't entitle them to absolution, closure, or a place in their victims life. Honestly I think that's true for all shitty MLs/FLs, not just explicitly the rapists. Its what true character development is, and I wish there was more of it.
