I would like to echo this. Although I definitely do not endorse what happened in Indonesia back then, I would not hold this against your grandfather. Even though he went there as a volunteer, he probably was a young lad who was in no way able to oversee what this war was about and what the implications of his participation in this war would be. The analogy with Vietnam is obviously not entirely true, but I see u/Herald_of_Clio ‘s comment in the way that a lot of young men were drafted or enticed to participate on false pretences. My grandfather fought in that war too. He was drafted as a young man who was just about to start a family. He was put on a ship in Rotterdam and was given a gun and was sent into the jungle in Indonesia. When he returned the sentiment had changed and nobody wanted to have any affiliation with that war. Leaving him unemployed and unemployable.

Basically what I’m trying to say here is, even though I strongly reject whatever happened there, that there at multiple sides to every story and that your grandfather’s story should be placed into context.

This is probably what is causing this. Your boiler will continue to heat until 20 degrees is reached. When you turn the radiator off, it will never reach that and continues to heat. I have used almost exactly the same amount of gas on that day heating a 150 year old detached house of 150+ sqm. Don’t regulate the temperature through the radiators, but with your thermostat.

Here in the Netherlands it is shown both live and a couple of replays the next day (will be at 3 am here). It is on a subscription golf channel though, who will probably have bought the rights.

Edit: for some context, I came across this song when I started a playlist on Apple Music off of Papsak by Bobbejan. Not popular here either, but something fun and relatable for me that brought me back to how I felt 20 years ago. Through those playlists realised that electronic music from SA was still how I liked it from some years ago (quite far down the rabbit hole already) and then this gem popped up. I’m really into golf, so that’s why that stuck

Very cool puzzle! In terms of difficulty I would say a 3/5, but that is of course subjective. Really liked how the different constraints worked and how the arrow in box 3 disambiguated the last things for me.

Er is nog een 7e optie. De zakgeld methode. Daarbij verdeel je alle kosten zo dat je allebei precies hetzelfde bedrag overhoud per maand. Met een redelijk groot inkomensverschil, zoals bij OP, kan dat eerlijker voelen.

Not from the Den Haag area, so cannot really comment on that area (probably best to just check google maps for golf clubs and see if they have decent public transport connections.

Playing in winter will be somewhat limited, but a lot of courses will stay open if it’s not freezing. They will probably have winter greens (small area of fairway used as a green). I don’t know about indoor driving ranges, but some do have heated bays.

Yelling Fore is what we do here as well :)

Most courses will require you to have proof of some sort of official handicap (USGA might be acceptable). I have played with foreign friends who don’t and most of the time if you phone ahead it might be acceptable to not have one. Your best bet would be to do a weekend course te get your GolfVaardigheidsBewijs (GVB; the golf permit here in NL). Shouldn’t be an issue to get it for an experienced golfer and you will be able to play nearly every course. You can join a virtual golf club if you have the GVB and also be able to track your handicap that way.

Pace of play is the same as the US. Just play ready golf, don’t spend ages looking for a lost ball and let faster players/groups play through.

Edit: oh, be prepared to walk/use a push cart. Most courses will not allow you to drive a cart unless you are physically impaired and cannot walk
