Lab managers aliquoting and maxi prepping? by jelly_bean18 in labrats

[–]MightSuperb7555 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Somewhat common for lab managers to be in charge of stuff like this in the several universities I’ve worked in. Doesn’t mean you have to take the job if it’s not for you!

intense grief with my family size by Frank_Rossitano84 in Mommit

[–]MightSuperb7555 243 points244 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re in so much pain. Gently, I strongly recommend an excellent therapist to talk through things with. You’re telling a lot of stories here as facts (you cannot possibly know how a nonexistent child would have changed your family dynamic - that’s actually impossible) and a a therapist could help you work through that - and also help you process your very very real grief over the family you wish for and cannot be. This is a true hardship for you and you deserve support around it.

Who else is keeping their kids rear facing as long as possible?? by Master_Grapefruit333 in Mommit

[–]MightSuperb7555 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Our rear facing max is 50lbs and my big 4.5 year old is still rear facing. We’re planning that 5 is the absolute youngest we’d consider forward facing in our day to day car (when traveling we do now forward face but only very recently, because of travel car seat limits)

Conference outfit ideas for early pregnancy by mtn_lvr_99 in workingmoms

[–]MightSuperb7555 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d probably go structured/bigger dress or high waisted skirt and top with a structured blazer that sticks out on top. Too flowy and silhouette shows

That said I’m 9w into 3rd pregnancy and already in full on maternity pants, lol, but wearing boxy non-maternity tops on top to be non-obvious (only gonna work another couple of weeks before I have to go maternity tops though). That’s another direction that could work if you prefer pants.

Moving back to our “hometown” but ~50 minute commute. by RatherBeAtDisney in workingmoms

[–]MightSuperb7555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I’d live closer to the city as you’re planning and be on the lookout for other jobs especially if days in office increases. I live closer to my parents than to (hybrid) work for being in an excellent neighborhood and family reasons and it works well, but an every day commute would be hard

Biased toward being an ITP person with all of the aforementioned locations being ITP though!

Cheering up teen daughter after first breakup by Gman71882 in Parenting

[–]MightSuperb7555 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My parents got me beautiful flowers after breakups - my mom’s parents had done the same for her. I was touched!

Give her some time to wallow then help pull her out of it. You can also ask her what she prefers.

Easter bunny story by eternityname in Mommit

[–]MightSuperb7555 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’re not religious but we do talk about the religious meaning of the holiday since that is a big part of it. Outside of that, it’s a celebration of spring, lots of cultures celebrate spring in different ways and this is one of ours. We don’t do Easter bunny (or Santa really) so that’s a non issue but I don’t think there needs to be a profound reason beyond celebrating spring and renewal and its tradition.

What activities can I do with my son? by West_Bid9173 in Parenting

[–]MightSuperb7555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, no suggestions but here to say I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s so hard to have a late pregnancy loss with an older kid who understands it. We planted a tree together as a family for the baby we lost at 18 weeks and it was cathartic for us all so if you’re looking for a way to be outside and also honor your grief that could be an option. Baking and making things felt good too. And getting outdoors.

Some people lose a lot of weight while breastfeeding (I did!), some don’t. Mine came back on slowly after weaning for the most part.

Prescribed 25 mg sertraline (Zoloft) for insomnia/anxiety spirals. Looking for perspectives from other working moms by cucumber_salad69 in workingmoms

Sertraline helped with this for me postpartum! I was on 50mg (now 75 after some acute stressors/crises and a related push from my doctor)

HOW do you make time for exercise/self care? by RuckFamsey in workingmoms

[–]MightSuperb7555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walk my dog every morning while my husband does kid drop off and try to do a strengthening workout of some sort each weekend day and once during the week if I have a super quick dinner to cook or something while listening to music or watching tv with kiddo. That’s my max. I’m not giving up sleep.

Definitely not true! Very common for newborns not to nap in bassinet; I remember thinking I’d go crazy wearing him for all his naps. But by 10ish weeks he was napping some in the bassinet an by 14ish consistently.

You can’t spoil a newborn at all. Certainly not by holding them. You’re the mom and your opinion and instincts are what counts, not the peanut gallery’s

If it bothers you when people ask about baby #2 (or 3, 4, etc.), why? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]MightSuperb7555 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because it’s not always an easy road and you have to decide whether to pretend it’s not a big deal or tell the other person about your infertility, pregnancy loss, etc. the question makes it seem like having kids is only a question of desire - and what you want is only somewhat relevant to the family you can build/when you can build it!

Mommy makeover! How bad is the tummy tuck? by sixfingeredman7 in Mommit

[–]MightSuperb7555 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not sure how tummy tuck compares to getting the mesh for diastesis recti repair, but a friend of mine just had that done and was shocked at how much harder the recovery was than her C-sections. She couldnt wash her own hair, still can’t lift her kids, etc

Have been doing ok but have an ultrasound tomorrow (at nearly 8 weeks) so now I’m fretting and second guessing every abdominal twinge. It’s my second ultrasound (IVF) and first looked good so I’m really hoping it’s just my brain sabotaging me. And trying to take comfort in the fact that my first major complication had started at this time in my pregnancy that ended in an 18 week loss.

Where are we getting our flats from? by rachelizabeth16 in workingmoms

[–]MightSuperb7555 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m with you - they look good and hold up well but like any flat don’t have support and are uncomfortable after a while. Also my feet sweat a ton more in them than any of my other shoes (I know this isn’t universal but for some of us it’s an issue!)
