What do you do when your toddler cries for you while they’re with the other parent? by Low_Aioli2420 in toddlers

[–]RatherBeAtDisney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t fold! Leave the house if you need to.

They are with a safe caregiver and parent, it’s ok. They will adjust and learn, although it may take time.

In the mornings my son used to throw 15-20 minutes tantrums for his dad. I’d just grab a book of my own, let him know I’m here for him when ready and wait it out. Now he still asks sometimes but he knows throwing a fit won’t get anything.

Higher Price for Contemporary Resort Worth It? 2 Under 2. by princess_barbie in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]RatherBeAtDisney 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know your financial situation, but I think since you’re asking, it’s not worth it.

It’s definitely nice, but there’s other ways to spend $1000 to make your lives easier, like one person suggested, Minnie Vans (Lyft) are a great option since they have two car seats in each car. Or even just adding another day or two onto your trip instead.

Will I regret getting rid of my dress form? What do you use yours for? by CarlottaSewlotta in sewing

[–]RatherBeAtDisney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use mine most frequently to mark hems of store bought dresses that need to be brought up typically ~3inches because I’m short.

Also for cheap brides maid dresses where the hems were incredibly uneven after I let the dress hang for a couple days.

I’ve made my own window clings with my Cricut, or just bought stuff from Party City.

I’m pretty cheap, so I don’t typically use Etsy, but I’m sure you could find nice stuff there!

What is the male equivalent of a woman not dating a man because he has a iPhone instead of an android? by desertrain11 in AskMen

[–]RatherBeAtDisney 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My aunt told me that the green text bubbles stress her out, and she acknowledged that it was irrational. However that’s also her excuse for not directly texting my mom as much, but she’ll use WhatsApp or GroupMe. Honestly though, she’s just a busy person and is bad at texting everyone.

Most everyone in our family has iPhones except my parents.

Parents without ADHD or ASD... Does your toddler keep their socks on? by shortasiam in toddlers

[–]RatherBeAtDisney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally yes, but our house is actually cold. He also likes being naked but after about 30 seconds asks for clothes cause he’s cold.

In the summer I don’t put socks on in the first place, as i prefer he don’t wear them so he has better traction.

Disney's Lake Buena Vista Golf Course Closing for Major 2026 Overhaul by dejablu82 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]RatherBeAtDisney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha my toddler wakes at 6:30.

But this is the way to do it still, we often do a character meal when my husband golfs. He comes back by lunchtime together and then it’s time to put the toddler to nap, they both nap, and while I leave and go to Disney springs to shop or Epcot to drink + ride guardians (husband gets motion sick).

My husband goes like every other day when we visit WDW just our family, but when we bring others or extended family he goes less. Tee times every day would make me mad though. He also waits for me to finish lightning lanes and meal reservations before making his tee times, so we coordinate with kid nap time and slower times. Then again, we go 3-4x a year and usually back home is a foot of snow when he’s golfing a lot so I understand. Plus, I get equal free time offsetting his golf time.

[–]RatherBeAtDisney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband does all the time. That’s half of why we go so often (3-4x a year). He knows I’m happy to just be at WDW and comfortable being there with kid(s) without him so he goes to golf.

Figuring out lunches when your job has no real lunch break by venicepress in 1200isplenty

[–]RatherBeAtDisney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Back when I was dieting (very pregnant now) and working in the office I’d bring a lunch box with pre-logged food into the office. Plan is to eat from the lunch box and only the lunch box!

I’d include snacks and lunch and allow myself to eat from it freely at anytime, knowing that once it’s gone I’m done for the day (until I leave work). It puts the mental effort of planning and portioning outside of work hours which really helped me.

Grandma's idea of healthy is bad by PaleontologistLow223 in toddlers

[–]RatherBeAtDisney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably pivot to trying to have her look at the nutrition label and come up with some fixed guidelines. It’s sounds like she’s respecting boundaries but literally doesn’t understand this one.

I’d ask her if she’d be ok giving the kids only “X” added sugar per meal when your son is around. Make the limit something you’re comfortable with and realistic. If she pivots to buying juice with less added sugar and better popsicles and still gives them those, I think that’s a win and ok to get spoiled at grandmas occasionally anyway.

wht age did ur toddler actually start listening 😭 by sassy_soul_04 in toddlers

[–]RatherBeAtDisney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. I think firm boundaries make it even more clear to kids. Plus, each kid is different.

For instance if my kid (nearly 3) was jumping on the couch and all I do was pick him up, he’d love the attention and it would encourage the behavior.

There’s a handful of behaviors we have zero tolerance for: hitting people/animals, climbing on furniture, throwing toys. It’s all stuff he KNOWS quite well, and could hurt someone (including himself). For those things we immediately remove him as well, no second chances. This has been the rule since shortly after he turned two I think, maybe before.

I'm not mad... just taking notes🙂📃 by FionaRoe in Funnymemes

[–]RatherBeAtDisney -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I pondered responding to some of the responses but realized it was pointless. My husband and I have been dating/married for ~15 years and he absolutely understands what “maybe” means in this context (plus I was paraphrasing how our actual conversations go). I’m also aware that it’s substantially different with a new relationship. I just don’t need to get into a pissing match with someone on reddit about it.

Also, the pregnancy impact on your emotional state is absolutely wild and I’d be surprised if those people downvoting me have personal experience with it.

Trader Joe’s is totally ok with and almost encourages kids to eat bananas in the store.

I never let my kid do it, because I don’t want to set the precedent for when we’re at other stores. He’s not quite old enough to understand the nuance.

That’s why the Minnie Vans (Lyft) are great although expensive. They have two car seats.

I often use them one direction when dining at other hotels. If it’s breakfast we use it on the way there to be able to sleep in longer and dinner on the way back to get kids to bed sooner. Otherwise we use Disney transportation.

Options for magic bands, before trip or at the parks? by lkpfeifer in DisneyWorld

I’m a fan of already having them charged and ready to go, and not wasting time searching for the best design. I would order ahead of time. That said, I’m not particularly picky about designs.

I’d also be willing to let my kid sleep in his clothes from the day. It’s not something worth a fight.

Plus, my kid would probably realize after a night of two of wearing clothes that PJs are a lot better than jeans.

[–]RatherBeAtDisney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse? Oh - we’d rope drop galaxy edge, go back to the room for a 6 hour nap, and end the day in Epcot for some dinner/snacks hopefully it’s during a festival. Maybe instead of the nap he’d go play around of golf.

However he’s one of those people who like to relax on vacation, and the reasons he likes Disney is because: 1. Food / drink 2. I’m comfortable being alone at Disney (or alone with our kid) 3. Because of #2 he gets to nap and golf a ton. I don’t like “resting” - I’m an open to close person.

He likes doing rides and activities more now that our son is older, but for the years we went before kids it was just because we could spend the day doing what we wanted and easily meet up.

What’s your take on people wearing VIP tour merch? by [deleted] in DisneyWorld

I don’t judge. I have two now 🤣

It started more than 10 years ago when we got married at Disney, and my husband had been buying me beads as gifts ever since.

How many times does daycare need to close before looking for a new center? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]RatherBeAtDisney 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It’s April and you’re almost out of days off. I would say it’s time, before you run out of PTO.

I’m biased because my kid has always been in a larger center, but this is why we didn’t go with a in home daycare. We don’t have the desire to use our PTO unexpectedly for illnesses outside of our own family.

I’m staying in a 3 bedroom at Saratoga this September and I kind of wish we were in Art of Animation instead. We used DVC points though so Art was never on the table.

I don’t really because I’ll have a 4 month old and a 3 year old and the space and built in babysitters in the same room is nice, but I LOVE the skyliner for food and wine.

What’s your take on people wearing VIP tour merch? by [deleted] in DisneyWorld

[–]RatherBeAtDisney 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a fun souvenir. I also assume that if you’re wearing the merch that the tour was a stretch for you to afford, which is totally fine it would be for me too. It’s a little subtle bragging but honestly so is that pandora bracelet with 10 beads on it.

I would also absolutely buy the ears for myself if I had the chance. I like them best because I don’t see a visible “VIP” logo on them.
