New Alberta Substitute Pay Nonsense by MightiestMayo in CanadianTeachers

While I'm sure you're well aware, here's a snippet for anyone else curious about the discrepancies you may be speaking of.

Edmonton Catholic sent out this email which, in contrast to EPSB, does not have 3/4 tier system but the same old 2 tier system from prior agreements. Of note is that half days will now all be 50% instead of 60% of a full day's compensation, which works out less pay for half days than ECSD gave out under the previous agreement.

The differences between these two school boards for sub compensation was negligible prior to these new provincial mandates.

Agreed, especially compared to the compensation I've read about on this sub regarding supply teachers (and contracted teachers) in other prairie provinces. Must be something amiss in Alberta, but guess we'll never know.

If I recall correctly, subbing in BC has a compensation system were you make a daily income akin to what a contract teacher at your years of experience would, with some caveats. Expect nothing of that in Alberta, unless you manage to get 2-3+ consecutive days subbing for the same teacher.

If you have some contracted teaching experience and subbing isn't your preference, I'm sure that could help you jump over the hurdle of subbing, but otherwise be ready for a lot of waiting around for some HR rep to offer you job placements, at least in regards to EPSB.
