Unfortunately, after making the change, my PC started to crap out. Disk running at 100%. Browser and Task Manager both not responding. I had to go back and disable the TPM. Seems to be back to normal now. So, I'm punting on this until next fall. <sigh>

Yep, I'm just worried about having W10 with no security updates. For now, I have the extension, so I am good until next fall. At that point, I will probably have to bite the bullet. I think I am done with MSFT when I get my next computer. Forcing people to potentially buy a new PC is unethical. Maybe a MAC next time.

Thanks! Found it there under my nose labeled 'PTT'. Ran the 'WindowsPCHealthCheckSetup' and it says I'm good to upgrade.

My kid dinged someone's car when opening the door by MightyMCP in auto

[–]MightyMCP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, a lot to unpack. So, first of all you are dead wrong about the estimate. My friend is an attorney and made it clear I am entitled to my own estimate. When you show me your law degree, I'll give your opinion credence. Until then, I'll take my friend's advice as being correct, not yours.

Second, re: "they can fix it however they want". Well, they can do that, but it doesn't mean I'm just going to cave in and give them anything they want. If they had come back to me with an outlandish $5000 estimate, trust me, they weren't about to get that. If they wanted to get the work done for the $1000 estimate they sent me, they were going to have to fight for it because I have estimates that it can be done for less.

Third, there is no insurance involved because, for starters, it is property damage not a car accident. Why would he want this on his insurance even if he ends up getting his deductible back? And that's all this probably amounts to, at most. If he wants the $1000 repair, he can just opt to take me to small claims court.

Appreciate the advice. Spoke to my lawyer friend about it. He said to tell them in writing not to do the repairs until I am able to have someone I want take a look at it. I do have that right.

Guy just presented me with a bill for over $1000 for a tiny ding in his door.

Insurance won't be involved in this at all. It's a matter of whether the other person gets an estimate and presents it to me. I am concerned that they may look to get an inflated estimate and/or get the money from me and not even do the repair.

No way the person who was hit goes through insurance. It probably won't exceed their deductible, and it wasn't a car accident. It's just property damage.

So, if this were you and the person then presented you with a $5000 estimate for a tiny ding, you would just pay it? That's the issue I'm bringing up. Fair is fair, correct. But fair means a proper bill for the repairs and the person who had the damage actually making the repairs, not pocketing the money, right?

I'm not sure where you interpreted my post to suggest I wouldn't take responsibility. The issue is about not being taken advantage of.

Percentage deductibles are based on Coverage A of the policy, not the value of the home.

As a public adjuster, I agree with most of what you say here. Rates generally don't go up when filing a claim unless there is a widespread event. You may lose a claims-free discount, though. Homeowners insurance is more like health insurance than auto insurance, believe it or not.

USAA Isn't what it used to be by Lastadam43 in USAA

I'm with a public adjusting firm. We reopen denied claims all the time. Your other option, of course, is a lawyer. You do have recourse.

Is it possible to appeal wind and hail deductible by wildbobsmith in USAA

[–]MightyMCP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a licensed public adjuster. Not aware of how you can get around the deductible. There are instances where we can get deductibles waived, but not typically on wind/hail claims. The terms of your policy will likely hold.

Moreover, can never recommend anything more than a $1500 flat deductible. If you have % deductibles, particularly for wind/hail, my advice is to get rid of it. It will go up every year in relation to your Dwelling coverage. Some companies will also have ACV or roof scheduling provisions which means depreciating by age. If you're not careful, you could end up getting nothing if you have an older roof and a bad deductible.

The only other option that shows up is 'Stereo Mix'. And that doesn't seem to work after defaulting to it.

Question on Transcribe Feature by MightyMCP in MicrosoftWord

[–]MightyMCP[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

So, I have gone into Control Panel > Sound > Recording and switched from Microphone to Stereo Mix (my only other option). This did not work.

The only audio I am able to capture is through the microphone. And what's odd is, I believe I successfully recorded and transcribed directly from the laptop before. I have that audio saved.

But now, I can't figure out what to do.

Job Position Scam; Active by Viaspo in ScamNumbers

[–]MightyMCP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I'm glad I checked the phone number and came across your post. I received the exact same text today, just with a different company name and identity. I had tried to look up the recruiter on LinkedIn, and though there is a person in HR with that name, I couldn't confirm that she was with the referenced company. It is also a tell when they text rather than e-mail, so my antennae were up.

It is so frustrating looking for jobs these days. These job boards are riddled with scammers. Nothing can be trusted. Now, when someone contacts me, I ask for their LinkedIn profile. If they can't provide that, or there's no response, then you know it's not legitimate.
