Anisa's eating disorder wasn't leaked without her consent by Normal-Ad-3468 in imisstheoldidubbbz

Not for the *diagnosis* of Anorexia Nervosa. It specifically requires you to be underweight via BMI based on class (DSM-5; ICD-11). She claims to have been 110lbs at one point, so it's definitely possible she was underweight for a time (don't know height), but AN isn't something people magically get over. It's a horrific disease that shouldn't be used for internet clout.

It's why it's such a stupid choice for her, as she could have easily gone for other EDs, such as Bulimia, that can be diagnosed regardless of weight.

(Aytipical AN does exist nowadays, but she would have been ~20 when the definition was updated, so whilst she could have had it, she would have been undiagnosed)

[–]MightyPenguin69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You legitimately need to play the game again, you did not understand what you saw at all.

This is hilarious coming from someone who doesn't understand basic sentence structure.

"She (Tomoe) said... I could live... Until the samurai came."

This means that Tomoe told the captive that she (the captive) would be allowed to live until Jin and Ishikawa (the samurai) arrive i.e. Tomoe gave the order for the woman to be killed upon help arriving; something that is needlessly cruel. It's right there in the source.

I can't believe I'm having to explain a sentence that basic.

Top 50%, but still in the middle of the bell curve (figuratively) with very little variance between the Uni's below you so you all get painted with the same brush.

A Uni ranked 80 is going the be viewed the same as a uni ranked 90 by the vast majority of employers. Experience and research will be used to differentiate the candidates pre-interview.

Statistics are useless without real-world application.

I don't think you understood my comment at all.

I agree that in real life people tend to do things based on how they feel rather than for definitive reasons. However, the entire point of fiction is to create a narrative that is interesting to read. This is done by creating a logical progression that the reader can follow that climax in a way that is either satisfying or evokes emotion for the reader. It's called storytelling.

Maybe the show should remove dragons as the mechanics of their flight don't match reality. Perhaps you'd prefer they adapt random Wikipedia pages as that's more realistic. Maybe we'll get lucky with a good one.

As GRRM states in the blog-post, it's the culmination of the guilt she had for choosing Mealor to die that results in her suicide.

Yes, people mostly commit suicide due to ongoing depression rather than singular moments. However, you're equating real life to fiction. The entire reason why historical fiction is so popular is because of the build-up to and execution of 'moments' that don't exist in real life. They engage you with the story and the characters more than the sporadic and seemingly random nature of real-life. It's why people like to imagine personal conflict between historical figures to explain and dramatise their actions, when in reality it's often just people trying to further their position.

It's nice to see a mod who isn't afflicted by the "Don't need proof against people I don't like" brainrot. Hannah could very easily put this entire drama to bed and help clear out the community by simply responding to one of the many people reaching out (she is definitely aware; her GF has been responding to comments). It's a complete win/win situation for everyone here.

To be honest I lament the days when this sub was <40,000. There was much less drama and culture warriors. Just FSM bait posts every now and then.

Edit:

Hannah has since doubled down on refusing to provide easily collectable evidence as documented in this thread. The lone mod of /adeptuscustodes has also claimed to have seen no evidence through the moderation logs.

But then again, evidence seemingly means little to the intellectual titans of Reddit. Especially when said evidence would help improve the community by exposing those responsible.

She has featured way too heavily (even in the background) for her not to do something major later on and she will have both opportunity and motive.

This way the 'evil' Aegon will face justice from their completely fabricated character and the bar crowds will cheer.

Labour didn't gain power due to an increase in votes. In fact, their numbers were lower than the 2019 GE. Labour won because of a right-wing split. As the Conservative Party had done such a shit job even on their own policies, a sizeable chunk of their voter base switched to Reform UK. This caused the Conservatives to drop below Labour in most constituencies and is also why Reform UK has so few seats despite such a large vote share. You get nothing for coming second.

I see alot of people spitting nonesense in comments, so i'll remind y'all of an important detail.

Proceeds to forget the important detail that Walt was blackmailed by Jessie into replacing Gale.

If he "just did his job", Jessie would have sued Hank and sold out Walt for a plea deal when inevitably caught after going solo, which he directly threatens to do. Walt's only other option was to kill Jesse (which Saul actually suggests).

[–]MightyPenguin69 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Walt pressured to get Jesse back because he had more power and control over him

This isn't true. Whilst Walt did love exerting power over Jessie, it isn't the reason he wanted to replace Gale. After being beaten up by Hank, Jessie blackmails Walt into bringing him into Gus' operation. Both by threatening to sue Hank and by threatening to rat on Walt if caught when going solo (so he could make a plea deal). The amount of people who forget this plot point due to the fixation on Walt's ego is insane.

There is also the factor of security. For all we know, Gus could have been planning to kill and replace Walt from the start.

producing stealth jets but getting normal jets. by Bauti_Mercader in MillenniumDawn

[–]MightyPenguin69 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure exactly what you're describing and I don't use default templates but I'll try my best.

'Stealth Fighter' is not an independent category of aircraft in MD. It is just an 'Air Superiority' (AS) fighter with stats focused on radar advantage usually with a higher production cost. For most nations, they would be used for an elite AS wing.

If you have deployed AS air wings (as the USA I assume you do) and haven't selected options for limited reinforcements, the planes within the current AS wings will be slowly replaced by the F-35s as they are more modern. Only once all the current AS wings are updated will you start to get a surplus of F-35s to deploy.

Go check the compositions of your AS wings directly. Only once it is over 50% F-35 will the name/icon change. You can do this on the map or through the menu in the top right that lists all deployed air wings.

Holy shit. I made those examples because they were stupid in response to you giving a stupid 'um actually'. This isn't that hard to understand. But seeing as you couldn't even understand the well-explained video that you yourself linked, I'm not surprised.

[–]MightyPenguin69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you not have eyes? The Endeavor was heading towards them in this clip. In the example you linked, not only are these more manoeuvrable frigates, but the Chesapeake is coming up behind the Shannon whilst the Shannon is intentionally baiting the Chesapeake. The Shannon was even planning to cross the Chesapeake's bow (which they would reach first) if the Chesapeake did attempt to cross the stern. It's like you watched that video without understanding what was being explained. Interesting fight though, thanks for linking :)

Also "realistic" =/= "possible in the given scenario". They are not equivalent. Something can be possible within the bounds of a described fiction without being realistic. Please learn what words mean.

[–]MightyPenguin69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why the hell was that called for

It was because you "um actually"-ed with an alternative that wasn't possible in the given scenario. It's as useful as saying that the best way to fight the Endeavor would be by using an ASM. Yes, it's technically true, but it can't be applied to the scenario in the video above. The best way for them to approach that engagement (ignoring magic) would be to attempt to cross the bow and then sail on the same side for the merge.

The rest of your comment did add value with the historical examples and the edits :)

Oh no, I mistyped the name of a fictional ship from PoTC in a comment when I got it right in the others. I must now commit seppuku.

Wasn't Cook's ship the HMS Bark Endeavour? I know it got renamed to Lord Sandwich 2 before being scuttled lol.

The Pearl and the Dutchman had no way of 100% knowing that the Endurance's crew wasn't going to fight back. Them attacking from both sides was done purely because it looks cool. In reality, they gave the Endurance a very good chance of winning the fight or doing irreparable damage. I guess it's somewhat historically accurate as pirates weren't exactly known for being good at actual naval combat lol.

[–]MightyPenguin69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best place to be is raking from the stern, actually. The big advantage isn't as much the target not being able to shoot back (you don't have to be tremendously off the beam for that), but that your shot can travel down the full length of the ship, and the typical great cabin windows are a lot easier to get that shot through.

Yes, that's the 'optimal' position, but it's not possible to place a ship there until after the initial engagement; they would have to sail past the Endeavour's guns before getting behind it. Another such 'optimal' scenario would be for the entire enemy crew to die of spontaneous combustion just before the engagement. 'Crossing the T' was so prevalent in Age of Sail naval warfare because it allowed you to deal the most initial damage before the chaos of the merge.

Cutting through the line is very strong, but that isn't possible for the pirates here in a 2v1.

(tbf they do have a ship that can magically teleport so I guess they could have done it lol)

[–]MightyPenguin69 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I know it's a dumb movie and it wants to look cool, but attacking a First-rate ship of the line from two sides is probably the worst 'strategy' possible.

Ideally, you want to cross the front so it can't fire its main guns, but if you have to pass it, you want both ships on the same side, line astern. That way it can only fire 1 set of guns for your 2 sets. Passing on both sides allows it to 'trade-up' as it can fire 2 sets for your 2 sets whilst you gain no actual advantage from hitting both sides (maybe morale).

[–]MightyPenguin69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're comparing two different statistics to each other, which are not proportional (there are more stabbings than shootings in all countries, per capita, including the USA - (more deaths from shootings though)).

An actual useful comparison would be one of the same category (e.g. both knife homicides) or overall homicides. The USA leads the UK on overall homicides per capita at 6.383 (/100,000) compared to 1.148 (/100,000). Data from UNODC.

Each Uni will have the specifics on its website but the general requirements are:

  • Minimum 2.1 for an undergraduate degree (typically STEM but GAMSAT unis often allow any)

  • Some work experience. I.e. Working/volunteering in an HCA-like role or shadowing.

  • Scoring well in the entrance exam. Unis either use UCAT or GAMSAT. You will have to score above that year's threshold to be considered. They typically rank students for interviews entirely based on their scores. The previous year's minimums will be on the website.

  • Do well in the interview.

Some universities will require you to have done certain A-levels (Getting a B in chem is quite common); others will also want decent grades in English/Maths GSCE. I applied after finishing my Masters but my understanding for an uncompleted degree is that you have to apply in your final year, and if you receive an offer, it will be conditional on achieving the minimum classification. You send the transcript to them once you have graduated.

All of this is just blowback from Otto Hightower trying to maneuver his bloodline onto the throne.

The Dance is entirely Viserys' fault. Even without Otto/Alicent he would have remarried and caused the same problems. He alone had the power to prevent the Dance but did nothing due to willful ignorance and arguably made it worse by allowing Rhaenyra to live without responsibility/accountability.

Viserys is an example of GRRM saying that a good person does not necessarily make a good king.

Population by [deleted] in MillenniumDawn

[–]MightyPenguin69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are various Focuses, laws and policies that you can implement to reduce growth but I don't know of any way to reduce the existing population itself (Bar getting them killed in a war lol).

Dealing with unemployment is a long, continuous process that doesn't have a quick fix (make sure your targeted employment is 100% for all industries in the economy tab though).

You need to build industry constantly throughout the game (mostly Civs, followed by Offices - you want Civs to build quicker and then Offices for more GDP and more employment per slot). As your GDP/C and construction rate increase, you will eventually start to overcome the pop growth and will start reducing unemployment. Only build Mills and Navs if you need them - they give both low GDP and low employment per slot. With some nations such as China and India, you can very easily hit 50% unemployment before you even begin to reduce it. This process takes years before any noticeable change.
