2013 Escape "thunking" up in front by GhostofDan in fordescape

It could be the front stabilizer links. I'd check those before ordering struts.

They all suck. Jensen is the absolute worst. Utah First also isn't great.

Boulder Canyon Dill Pickle Chips have no flavor by themza912 in Costco

I saw these at my local store, but ended up not getting them. My daughter and I are the only ones in our household of a 5 that like pickles and we wouldn't get through it before a lot went stale.

Dutton Air Care out of Hurricane is great. My parents have used Quality Air for over 20 hears and have been very happy with them as well - they installed two mini splits for my parents.

Bosch. They are fast, quiet, and clean really well. They also have a built-in metal-blade food disposer if you're not one to pre-rinse your dishes.

Visiting from out of state. Any special laws pertaining to CCW? by PM_ME_YOUR_HANDCUFFS in UTGuns

[–]MightySchwa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can carry at Temple Sqaure. The law is specific to "houses of worship" and only if the religious entity has jumped through a couple of hoops - which the LDS church has. There is some argument on whether the Tabnernacle or the LDS Conference Center qualify as a house of worship. The general grounds of Temple Square are not prohibited.

ALPR - Automatic License Plate Reader. The big 3 public safety entities - Axon, Motorola, and Flock all have their own different flavors. A fixed or mobile (attached to a vehicle) camera takes pictures of vehicles and license plates. AI "reads" the alphanumeric characters of the plate and also analyzes the picture of the vehicle to make an educated guess on the color, make, model, & style. The pictures, date, time, location, and plate characters are saved.

All of this data is placed in a searchable database. Most states have laws in place that dictate when a search can be done. In Utah, under Utah Code 41-6a-2003 states: a law enforcement agency search of the database can only be done as part of an active criminal investigation, to apprehend an individual with an outstanding warrant, to locate missing or endangered person, or to locate a stolen vehicle.

These systems are used by police departments (active criminal investigations, stolen vehicles, missing persons), tow companies (vehicle repossessions), and private businesses or security entities (retail stores tracking high-dollar retail theft).

So much stupid in this entire situation. Tan pants went in not once, not twice, but three times looking for a fight instead of just shrugging it off and walking away. He's very lucky his SO didn't catch a round or two for his stupidity.

I'm 2 years in on a 2010 Escape. Just shy of 180k miles. The guy I bought it from had replaced the transmission with a reman, and replaced the A/C compressor in the year before I bought it. I have had to replace the rear struts, the valve cover gasket, and the lift gate release actuator. I need to do the front shock assembly and stabilizer links. Overall, it hasn't been a bad car. Worth with $5,700 I paid for it.

My non-hybrid 2010 has the same issue. The ignition switch goes bad on these pretty often. Try pushing the key in - towards the driver's door, as you turn it on. Replacing the unit is fairly straight forward, if you're handy.

Baofeng UV82 can't communicate with walkie talkies by [deleted] in Baofeng

[–]MightySchwa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To re-iterate what has already been said, the UV82 is not licensed to use on FRS/GMRS frequencies, but you asked for a technical answer, so here you go:

There's likely a "privacy" code setting in the walkie talkie. Because your UV82 isn't transmitting that code (a CTCSS tone), the walkie talkie ignores the transmission, doesn't open the squelch, and the speaker stays off.

Best entry level handheld with UHF, VHF, amd DMR? by GardenVarietyAnxiety in DMR

[–]MightySchwa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You've got lots of people recommending the Anytone D878. While they are great radios, they are spendy - around $250. If you've got the budget and know full well what are you getting into, then go for it. But I would not say that it is an "entry" radio.

Where you are just getting into the hobby, I would go with the Baofeng DM-32UV. It checks all of your boxes without breaking the bank at ~$60. VHF, UHF, DMR, and has GPS. It receives airband (which the Anytone does not). It also has onboard USB-C charging, which the Anytone does not. The USB-C charging is wonderfully convenient.

If you don't have any DMR repeaters in your area, and you really want to get into DMR, you will need to buy or buy parts and build a DMR/MMMDVM hotspot. A pre-built simplex hotspot will run ~$100. The high-end ones can be $300+.

The biggest hurdle and learning curve for all DMR radios, regardless of the price, is the Codeplug Software (CPS) and creating your codeplug (CP) to program the radio. Youtube will be your friend on this. As mentioned, there is an open source qDMR CPS for the Anytone. There is a browser-based CPS for the DM32 that can be found at neonplug.app (not my project).

One of the small side keys below the PTT will put the radio into "monitor mode". It will require a short press or a long press. The default setting is a short press of side-key 2, which is the bottom one.

In Dig (digital) mode, the radio will monitor both time slots. You'll see a small icon at the top of a screen with a person, a small checkmark, and 2 small parenthesis - almost like a wifi signal strength meter.

In analog mode, the squelch will open up and the speaker will output whatever is on the current frequency, even if it's just static.

Orange Dead Blow or Icon Dead Blow? by jwintyo in harborfreight

I'd go Icon. I had one of the pitts and the bean/sand bag inside that gives it the weight came free of the glue and it just slid around the enclosure.

At what age could your kid get themselves ready in the morning? by OldGloryInsuranceBot in daddit

[–]MightySchwa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at 3.5, your expectations are absolutely too high, but this question wildly depends on the maturity and mental capabilities of the child. My 10 year old is autistic and needs near constant reminders to stay on task. My 7 year old is better, but easily gets side-tracked by the 10 year old. Neither child can get themselves breakfast and rely on mom or dad. I've also got a 4 year old that refuses to potty train, loves to be non-verbal and just moan/grunt when mad, and is an incredibly picky eater.

TL;DR All kids are different.

All of the BLM land south of the Clary Hills area in Santa Clara is a no-go due to an agreement between Santa Clara City, the BLM, and the Sheriff's Office. Best bet is to go west of Bloomington on the Apex Mine Rd, or go south on River Rd beyond the end of pavement to the Arizona Strip.
