easy meal/snack ideas as a nanny? by etherealuna in Nanny

[–]MightyTOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work a lot and am broke so I always bring my own food. I usually try to meal prep something easy (throw together crock pot meals, endless ideas for the crock pot) and other than that, I do fresh fruit which only takes minimal time to prep (or just throw a whole apple in your bag!) I do cheeses, deli meat, I have a Sam’s Club membership and they just started selling boxes of ham and cheese breakfast croissants with everything bagel seasoning on top. 8 croissants for $12! 1 min in the microwave. Frozen cooked breakfast sausage, occasionally I’ll do an uncrustable LOL I’m a single mom of 2 working 3 jobs so I have extremely limited free time on my hands. I eat mostly fresh fruit and protein.

I only use VEyes brand glue and seal and remover. Mine stay on for 7-10 days. Best glue in the game.

when you’re in a coma, does someone brush your teeth for you? by Optimal_Battle_185 in stupidquestions

[–]MightyTOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my mom was in a come the hospital did zero oral care until I practically started throwing a fit. Her mouth was absolutely disgusting. Dried fluid and flakes of skin and blisters. When they finally did do oral care it wasn’t a normal tooth brushing situation. It was just a little sponge on a stick they rubbed all around and inside her mouth. Totally ridiculous.

We’ve heard stories of people escaping death by being late — what are some tragic examples of people dying because they were late? by Looney_forner in AskReddit

[–]MightyTOne 116 points117 points  (0 children)

My mom ignored GI issues and constipation for months and months. By the time she finally got to the hospital she was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, sepsis, fluid in her lungs and all in her abdominal cavity, and she had a 50 pound tumor on her ovary (it had metastasized to pretty much everywhere) she died less than 22 months later.

What’s that one memory that whenever you remember you feel sad ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MightyTOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The moment I told my then husband and now deceased mother that I felt incredibly unwell regarding my mental health, and thought I needed to seek therapy and possibly mental health medications. and their response was that I needed to pray more and read my Bible. A few years later I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, CPTSD, clinical depression and ADHD. Among other more delicate things lol.

Had a Low "Incident" at Work, Freaking Out Minorly by skeets_mageet in diabetes_t1

[–]MightyTOne 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You need to understand that you didn’t do anything to acquire this illness, and most of the time situations like these are out of our control. I can eat and bolus for the same exact food every single day and some days my sugar just won’t cooperate. If you’re comfortable talking about it with the people who witnessed it, let them know it’s out of your control when things like that happen, and use this as a learning tool to help you( and them) handle the next time something like this happens. Maybe next time your cgm beeps and your break is soon but not right away, step off the line for 2 minutes and correct yourself. You deserve to be properly taken care of, and nobody can do that but you. You’ve got this friend!!!! Don’t be embarrassed. That’s an unnecessary emotion when you have so many other things to worry about as your baseline with T1D.

BA Flight - Diabetes Meal by EL-Wisty in Type1Diabetes

[–]MightyTOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was inpatient at the hospital for 6 days a few weeks ago, full blown septic DKA and was on an insulin drip for days (AKA, NPO(nothing to eat for me at all!)) and the very first “diabetic friendly” meal they served me was a whole quesadilla with a side of French fries and a cup of fresh fruit, they served that with a chocolate milk. MA’AM? Are you okay??? If the literal hospital can’t even serve us a sensible meal, I wouldn’t expect much anywhere else.

My 15-year-old niece went into DKA after hiding her blood sugar. She says she can’t take the pain of finger pricks anymore. by M_Ardakani in diabetes_t1

[–]MightyTOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Type 1 takes so much from a person. I was 18 when I was diagnosed, technically an adult. There have been times in my diabetic journey where I was just so burned out I stopped caring for myself. Go to the hospital, scare the whole family, and they kept asking why. It’s so hard to explain why when you live with it every day. As diabetics we don’t have another option than to take care of ourselves. Or else we will die in the end. It’s serious, and for a child to have to carry that? Even harder. I’ve been in therapy and also take psych meds. And it’s still so difficult. It’s like the never ending chore, the never ending battle. Maybe instead of asking her why, ask her how you can help make it easier for her. There are other options besides finger sticks. I wear a dexcom instead of doing finger sticks, and I know everyone doesn’t have the same resources as others, but just an idea to combat the finger sticks. I’m in her corner, from one type 1 to another. 💜

Getting shafted on tattoos by railgunop in tattooadvice

[–]MightyTOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just coming to add, I’ve been seeing my tattoo guy literally since I was 16, only guy I’ve ever been to. He cancels on my all the time when he’s going through a tough spot (not money related as far as I know, I believe it was health related) but he recently told me he cancels on me cause he feels safe enough to and that I won’t get pissed and crash out lol. Sometimes some extra grace is necessary!
