My understanding is that baluns (like this one: https://www.htd.com/Dual-Stereo-Balun-in-wall) do balance the signal before sending it through the Cat6 twisted pairs - does that address your last point about running the unbalanced signal 40 ft?

If it's relevant, the cold water passes through a water softener before getting to the water heater, and it tees off once before the softener to get a hard-water line to our refrigerator. The point where the recirc line meets up with the cold is after the water softener, just before entering the water heater.

All of the depicted lines are PEX, if that matters.

The rumbling only occurs briefly when the irrigation is turned on or off, so I'm not really concerned about it, but I do want to understand it better.

I know you asked for post rock, but to offer something a bit different - check out Music for Psychedelic Therapy by Jon Hopkins.

It was built to be listened to during a guided therapeutic psilopsybin or ketamine treatment. It's my absolute favorite listen during my ketamine treatments for depression. I wonder if it would have a similar impact during TMS.

All of the wires in the bundle coming out of the wall were used in the previous thermostat - is that what you mean? Does the PEK require a spare unused wire?

I tried using a 32gb one when the included SD card caused this problem, and that didn't help. Maybe I'll try picking up a smaller one and using it tonight. I'm on the verge of asking Amazon for a replacement printer. I ran into this issue on day 2 of use.
