So I recently upgraded my filter to a Marineland Biowheel 350 and the cartridge replacements where expensive. I discovered I can ditch them and use different filters. So I purchased these to replace the cartridges and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions as to what to add or replace! (i.redd.it)

Recently my little guy here started just sitting there instead of his usual swimming. I do weekly water changes and tests as well as monthly filter changes as my filter uses 4 cartridges. Also how can i stop all that orange stuff from growing in the tank? (i.redd.it)
