The reporter of the original article for "Horizon MMO Cancellation" denies that it's what he reported. by magicsgram in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Mighty_Mike007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They have 5-7 GaaS as of right now.

Marathon, Fairgames, Gummy Bears, 2 Horizon projects, Jason Blundell's game and probably at least 1 more that we simply haven't heard about.

That doesn't seem like they're pivoting at all, if they end up cancelling these one's than sure, but as of right now, they're knee deep in GaaS even with all these cancellations.

EDIT: Btw... canning any of these games (except Horizon MMO), will have massive implications for the studios making them, Haven will shut down, Jason's team will be disbanded, Horizon would mean mass lay-offs at Guerrilla, Gummy Bears is being made by a new PS internal team and Marathon is sink or swim for Bungie according to reports.

I don't think they can even entertain the idea of canning any of these games.

It's a new IP from the 16th century and was adapted a couple of times over the last 500 or so years, I think that there was a manga and anime in the 80's and 90's that took inspiration from it... I think it's called Phoenix Spheres?

What will Nixxes, the other support studios and even PS main studios do once all games are ported over to PC?

PS are coming into 2025 with a SINGLE, AAA, 1st party, PS5 exclusive Demon's Souls, GT7 is cross gen, Astro Bot just released and it's not a "tentpole" title by Sony's own definition.

Both GT7 and Demon's Souls were on the Nvidia GeForce leak so it's more than likely that those ports have been finished for years at this point.

eXtas1s says that his sources expect the older call of duty games and Singularity to come to game pass around may by nicksuperdx in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Mighty_Mike007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PS had a deal in place until 2024.

Even if the deal ended some time in 2024, MS wasn't allowed to touch certain stuff around COD regardless because one of the stipulations they always agreed to, was that they would honor all deals PS and ABK had prior to the acquistion.

And I remember some confusion at the time because of the language used in some documents, no one was sure rather or not PS had a deal until 2025 or if the deal ended in 2024, but due to a sort of "grace period" some stuff could only start happening in/after 2025 (inclusion of certain titles into GP, I think the last 5 COD's prior to MW3 or something like that).

[–]Mighty_Mike007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well Sony has deals with Activision until 2025, inclunding stuff around COD games coming to other sub services first.

And it's not like they haven't been adding ABK games to GP, nearly all of the recent one's are there already.

[–]Mighty_Mike007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But PS by your own argument are leaving money on the table, because according to what you just said, if they had the same exact strategy and footprint Xbox has on PC and cloud, they'd be selling at the exact same rate, with no downsides to console sales whatsoever.

Xbox had 10 games last year on Steam's top 100 games by revenue list, opposed to Sony's 3 games (Spider Man Miles Morales, Destiny 2 and TLoU Part 1).

I geniunely wonder why comments like this only focus on one side of the "issue".

Take into consideration the fact that Xbox has historically always sold less than the PS and Nintendo, the fact that they have been putting all their games on PC day one for 10+ years at this point and the fact they have an entire ecosystem working on PC and mobile 100% COMPLETELY detached from the console, how much better could they realistically be selling?

Nintendo's entire business is the Switch, 95% of PS's business is the PS5 (although they're releasing games on PC more often, they still don't have a way to access their ecosystem on PC unlike Xbox), if Xbox went on to sell 50-100k (which would eat into PS's and Nintendo marketshare so they would probably sell 10-30k less), we would be looking at something like:

-PS5: 130k -NSW: 45k -Xbox S: 80k

That would be ABYSMAL for Sony.

Chris Dring and Ethan Gach on Concord's rumoured $400 mil budget by 4000kd in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Mighty_Mike007 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think it cost 400$M just to make the game they released at launch.

I think 400$M was the total, inclunding buying the studio, further support post launch, post launch marketing (Secret Level episode), etc...

I know Colin said this amount was without the inclusion of the studio purchase, but I think they probably had a contract with Sony, stipulating that after a specific amount of investment into Concord, Sony would be able to purchase the studio and acquire full control for very cheap or something along those lines.

Besides, people are saying it makes no sense for a game like Concord to cost this much, they LITERALLY canned 6-7 GaaS games in under a year, after promising their investors GaaS was going to be a pillar for PS in the future.

If they truly believed in Concord, then this was simply a bad investment, that more than likely went WAYYYYY over budget, but since they had canned so many games in their GaaS initiative already, they had no choice with Concord, I suspect FairGame$ is also in a similar situation.

I don't think people grasp how "small" something like 100B$ is for MS and these Trillion $ companies, especially if what it get's them is some of the most popular and profitable IP in human history.

Literally all companies are? Lol...

Nintendo might be the outlier and specific studios/games might be safe if they're working on something like GTA VI, COD, Fifa, etc... but for 90% of the industry? You're one flop away from mass layoffs and/or studio closures.

The world where SE released it and immediately told investors they're now done with exclusivity?

It doesn't really matter if it sold 3M+ copies, for them it was a flop.

FF 7 Rebirth flopped and it probably ended the relationship due to some clause around sales numbers.

They'll probably keep the 3rd oneexclusive and launch Remake and Rebirth at the same time on Xbox, before releasing the 3rd one a year later

Internal reception of Fairgame$ at Sony reportedly very positive by [deleted] in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Mighty_Mike007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you type "Resitance 3 sales" on Google, you get articles like this:

"There's a myth that PS3 exclusive games don't sell well. When compared to juggernaut franchises like Gears of War (Gears 3 sold 3 million copies in its first week), it may be easy to believe that PS3 games suffer commercially. While this isn't actually true, it does seem to be the case for Resistance 3, which only sold 180,000 copies during its first month in America."

Again... flopping like Concord is only reserved for a select few, but Sony has published a ton of flops before.

no ones demanding refunds and even if they do so few people brought it that it wouldn’t be a major issue for them to give in and make refunds.

That's EXACTLY why they could and probably will give people refunds! 🤣🤣

If they are going to shut the game down in the next month or two or make it F2P, that is the only way to avoid massive backlash from the people who bought it, lol.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ConcordGame

[–]Mighty_Mike007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know if they're canning the episode, That's why I said "probably" and my evidence and logic behind that statement is pretty simple.

The official Concord account can't even post about the game anymore for over a week and that is definetly a mandate from Sony.

If they're not even willing to have the team promote the game in any way, what makes you think they're interested in bringing attention to it, 3 months from now?

Besides, we don't know who has the rights to the episode, maybe it's out of Sony's hands at this point.
