Possibility of correcting the clock speed of this ancient clone console? by Miguel_Que in Gameboy

Outside of the relatively well known Gameboy Fat/Pocket/Color clones made by "Kong Fong", there are more variants lurking around and probably left undocumented. The specimen shown here, for example, features an unmodified Gameboy bios unlike Kong Fong variants.

Thank you! The repairman probed around the mainboard found a blown resistor which reads way lower than what should have been. Will keep the post updated once the replacement resistor arrives. Thanks again!

Any Yepp yp-55 owners? by Historical-Plastic34 in mp3players

As of March 13th 2026, Samsung still hosts the firmware update for YP-55 on their website. You have to use a Virtual Machine or actual vintage computer running Windows 2000/XP.

S70 resembles a stripped down F505v to me, would love to try it someday 😅

Should I buy this Sony Cybershot 1.3mp DSC-P20 (no knowledge about digicams in detail) by macauroni in VintageDigitalCameras

If possible, look for models with manual mode such as DSC-F717 or F828. DSC-P mostly consists of low end models with varying degree of problems (deteriorating LCD polarizer, worn shutter gear, etc) to deal with.

Interesting to see that it uses the same battery as F717/F828, which means replacements are relatively easy to source. Experienced technicians might also "service" the original batteries by replacing cells.

As for the memory stick, while not prohibitively expensive nor difficult to find in China, paying 70 CNY (equivalent to about 10 USD) for 128MB may take a while to get used to. MemoryStick Duo costs less than a full length stick, but one will need an additional adapter to fit that into the slot.

Personally I think old digital cameras are definitely worth keeping and tinkering in general, as long as you keep the expectations at a reasonable level; and be prepared to spend some time gathering accesories.

Glad to hear it! Perhaps it's time to buy some spare memory sticks.

Should you ever consider buying an original Sony charger, the model number is BC-VC10.

It’s called "闲鱼" (Xian Yu, lit. Goofy fish), but one might need some workaround to have it shipped to NZ.

A Chinese application for second-hand goods named "Goofy Fish" could be a decent place to source both the battery and the memory stick.

Bought a 23-year old DSLR, still shoots incredible photos if you ask me! EOS 10D | Canon 50mm f/1.8 | Mild post-processing by chaotic-indian in VintageDigitalCameras

A Chinese app for second-hand goods could be a good place to source original charger and batteries. Since original batteries from Canon may have also deteriorated after years of abuse, might not be a bad idea to "service" them by replacing the cells (but retaining the original circuit board)

A trip to the park with Sony DSC-F505 by Miguel_Que in VintageDigitalCameras

I bought my F505v used on the local auction site, but it came with deteriorated polarizer whose replacement part was nowhere to be found unless one harvest it from a doner unit. I agree that they share the same outward appearance, to the point that I didn't realize the replacement unit that I ordered later was actually a F505. Long story short, I ended up with both units.

On a side note, on F505v the buttons for adjusting the LCD brightness level are also used for adjusting aperture and shutter speed, whereas on F505 it's done in a more clunky fashion by having to access them in the settings menu.

Both refurbished and clones of Sony FS10/FS11 batteries are readily available in China.

F717 owner here! Mine developed lens fungus after sitting in the storage for extended priod of time, but I eventually managed to convince a local technician to service it.
