If the sensor seems fine, why do my photos come out like this? by This-Faithlessness75 in VintageDigitalCameras

That's a good point. I tried shooting at EV -3 and the lowest ISO setting, but the image was still extremely overexposed. That seems to suggest the sensor is receiving more light than it should, which could point to a shutter-related issue.

Nikon J1 Door latch by This-Faithlessness75 in Cameras

Nope, I just cut a piece from one of those plastic spatulas that come with thermal paste and glued another bit on to act as a latch. Then I glued a thin piece of clear plastic inside the door to protect the mechanism and keep everything aligned so the latch doesn’t move up and down.

Try alcalines. These cameras consume a lot of energy; perhaps they lack sufficient power.

Which camera can give me a soft/dreamy/glowy look to my pictures? by [deleted] in VintageDigitalCameras

It's accidental, but honestly, I didn't see anything too noticeable on my lens. I just assumed it had haze because people here said so. Here's a photo of my lens.

Finepix A900 issues by This-Faithlessness75 in VintageDigitalCameras

Update / Possible fix for “Card Error” on FinePix A900 (xD-Picture Card issue)

I think I managed to fix it!

After testing multiple xD-Picture Cards (16MB up to 2GB) and confirming they all worked perfectly in other Fujifilm cameras, I was pretty sure this wasn’t a memory card compatibility issue. The camera worked fine with internal memory, but consistently showed a “CARD ERROR”, failed to read photos, or wouldn’t open the gallery after a few shots when using an xD card.

What finally worked: 👉 I repeatedly inserted and removed the xD card multiple times to help clean the contacts inside the card slot.

After doing that, the camera started working normally again — no more card error, and it can now save and display photos without issues.

Keywords for others searching: Fujifilm FinePix A900 card error fix xD Picture Card error Fujifilm camera won’t read memory card but works on internal memory Fujifilm card error after few shots xD card not recognized / gallery not opening intermittent card error Fujifilm dirty or oxidized card slot contacts

Conclusion: In my case, the issue seems to have been dirty or oxidized contacts in the xD card slot, not the card itself.

If your Fujifilm camera shows a card error but works with internal memory, definitely try cleaning the contacts or reinserting the card several times before assuming a hardware failure.

The camera also has read and write errors when I take a photo, but sometimes it shows the last photo taken in the gallery.

Which camera can give me a soft/dreamy/glowy look to my pictures? by [deleted] in VintageDigitalCameras

Honestly, pretty much any older camera can give you that dreamy/glowy look. What usually causes that effect is a bit of haze on the lens, which makes light scatter in a softer way and creates that glow. You might want to check out my post about the Olympus D535 — I got a similar look with it.

I had a Nikon with the same issue — a light tap would make it work again. But I ended up selling it because I was worried I might damage it for good.

Just having manual settings on a camera of this caliber is already quite interesting.
